Watching you Alois brings back such old memories and makes me interested in playing once again. Those pennant nights down at the old Albert Park, junior squads and tournaments were fun. When going for an extremely short serve with heavy backspin, I feel like I have to pass my racket completely under the ball and flick upwards, contacting the FRONT of the ball ("7 or 8" on the clock you have there) to avoid sending it too far. Do you do anything similar for that kind of serve or am I imagining things?
@pingskills

It's great you are experimenting with this. That certainly is a good way to achieve a lot of backspin. Take a look at this video for more information on this: www.pingskills.com/tutorials/must-learn-serves/ma-lin-ghost-serve-bat-angle Keep up the good work :)

Angel Koulas there is two ways 1 try to pressure your opponent like hitting your topsin stroke more harder so he would mess up his backhand Or You can hit the ball slowly and obverse his backhand and position yourself correctly to do a rally fight

@pingskills
@pingskills 4 жыл бұрын
@@angelkoulas95 Well done. Also if you don't feel confident topspinning the serve then you can return it with a push stroke. However in the long term you are best developing your attacking stroke off a ball that doesn't bounce twice on the table.

I see. This means you need to hit the ball more finely. Pretend there is a fly on the ball and you are trying to hit the fly off the ball without touching the ball. Once you have a fast bat and a fine brushing contact you will generate lots of spin. Good luck!

None of us do that in "actual matches". Just when messing around with friends. And the reason is because it's more fun and not really much of an advantage. Serving is one of the only ways to bring creativity into the game without having to actually be good at it. My go-to's are tossing with fingers, tossing from the left corner over to the right corner, throwing the toss off walls or ceilings, and putting the ball between my fingers and slapping it out of my hand with the paddle. These we see as fine because they don't provide legit advantage (unless ur dumb) and are still "hit-my side bounce-opponents side bounce". Game mechanics are the same, we just ignore unimportant formalities. Ones that don't fly are intentionally serving in front of the line, saying lets count, the "bounce then hit" method, or "rolling" the ball off the paddle. These are disliked because they provide legit advantage to the server. The illegal serves aren't difficult to return either unless you have 0 concept of how to deal with mild spin. They're basically just a fun way to determine whether or not your friend/opponent is an idiot who can't adapt and doesn't get physics.
