Really brilliant pairing of different colors, I like playing with separates, it shows that a person actually thought about what he was putting on

Hi Chadwick, glad you enjoyed the video and I agree with you, it does give a person flexibility in the way they dress and the creativity of their ensembles, but as you said it does require a little more attention 👍🙂

Separates for country events, suits for the city. I am seeing more and more men going for separates though. Speaking for myself, separates seem to provide instant gratification. A blazer/sports jacket catches my eye more so than a suit. Then comes the fun of finding trousers and creating a winning combo.

Hi Pete, you are correct with that old adage. But as you rightly stated this is no longer the case and more and more people are wearing separates and the navy blazer or a sports jacket is a classic example of that. It's great to hear you have fun with it and that is the way it should be. Thanks for your continued support and comments👍🙂

Hi Chris. I'm retired and just keep a Summer siut of linen/cotton mix and a Winter siut of heavier wool for those occasions you mentioned when a siut is required. I find a combination of separates is a liberating experience as one can play with endless combinations. One does have to be careful though as it is important to be familiar with colour combinations and materials that work. It's always worth the effort to play around with them, I feel. Thanks for your advice Chris. It's always welcome.

Hi Billy, glad you enjoyed the video. I glad you find the combination of separates liberating and enjoy the many combinations. you are correct and wisely state that one does still need to be careful about the colour combinations used and the materials/ textures when making chooses of what to wear, but never the less it is fun to experiment and a great way to advance ones sartorial understanding👍🙂

Chris, I'm intrigued with your tieless look, you haven't followed the recent trend of undoing both top buttons - good for you. Also, with separates, it's important to bear in mind keeping a tally for top/bottom wear, for instance, one jacket should pair with two trousers, to save on wear attrition. All your comments are common sense.
@TheBritishDapper

Hi Roger, glad you enjoyed the video and to answer your question, with the tieless it didn't open more than one top button, this is because as you stated it is more of a trend, but also I tend to only wear an open shirt in this manner, the exception might be if I'm wearing a cravat and even then sometime I still only open one button. I agree with you that a jacket can be paired with more than one pair of trousers and I tend to circulate 3 or 4 different pairs of trousers with a particular jacket and as you said avoiding excessive wear of your trousers 🙂 Thanks for your comments👍🙂

Another well executed episode Chris.👍👌 You have some great looking garments to work with and wear them well. Using an off white shirt is an excellent idea. Muted yellow makes for an interesting choice as well. Suits have their place which precludes using separates. They can be uniformish and therefore a little on the boring side. I prefer wearing separates whenever possible. The variety of combinations and opportunities to express individual style are endless. Go with it! Run with it! Dress like nobody else. People notice and don't forget a well dressed, put together, dashing gent. To that end, nothing beats what can be created with separates. Cheers

I quit smoking a year ago and gained some kilo's. I think seperates will be the next step. My suits are another issue 😎

Hi Roland, yes gaining or losing weight is always an issue, whether you wear separates or suits. The great thing about separates is that whilst trousers might still fit you, you only have to buy a jacket to create an overall great look for any more formal situations. Within reason, some well made suits can be tailored to give a slightly larger fit, it might be something worth exploring with your local tailor, if losing weight is not an option👍🙂

Every look is elegant, classy and timeless. Chris, I like how effortless you dress. In the fall and winter time, I like to pair a sports jacket with a dress shirt and a light sweater or just with a turtleneck sweater. In my personal opinion, waistcoasts should only be worn with ties. I miss something when I see the big gap that the v-shape of the waistcoat produces. As always Chris, thank you for your weekly videos. They are a highlight of my week.

Hi Kay, glad you enjoyed the video. It's always my goal to make dressing well look effortless, so your compliment truly means a lot. I completely agree with you about autumn (fall) and winter attire. Pairing a sports jacket with a dress shirt and a light sweater or turtleneck is a fantastic choice. It’s a classic combination that provides warmth without sacrificing style. Your opinion on waistcoats is interesting and makes sense. Wearing a waistcoat with a tie does help to fill the V-shape gap and create a more cohesive look, but I would still suggest wearing a waistcoat to add a pop of colour to that larger V shape created when just wearing a sports jacket over a shirt. Thank you Kay for watching my videos every week, your support is greatly appreciated, it’s great to know they’re a highlight for you. Stay stylish my friend 👍🙂

Good stuff Chris! Separates (or Spezzato) definitely one for more casual affairs! I have not long bought a donegal tweed jacket which I cannot wait to wear in the autumn with jeans - from a closing down wedding hire place! Absolute bargain! I've also just bought a glen check suit from M&S which will go beautifully as either separate trousers or jacket. That puppy tooth jacket is beautiful!!! One of those is now on my shopping list!

Great video and some fantastic pieces... you could do lots of combos with just the stuff you've shown. The dark pieces really suit you... that grey heavy check jacket, I think, would have paired even better with a navy or midnight merino waist coat cardie type thing. Good stuff though, look ace and no slob. cheers.

Hi Wayne, I had it made many years, by and Italian tailor, who has retired a number of years ago now and the business closed. Such a same🙁 The puppytooth pattern is a common fabric and most bespoke tailors could make you one without complication👍🙂

I love clothes and dressing. In my office I’m considered somewhat of a dandy. I don’t know if I’d consider myself a dandy or not, but I never did anything to curtail people thinking that. I stated watching these fashion KZbin videos, like yours, when I was stuck at home during the Covid lockdown and found them entertaining. However, as I look around at how bad most men dress I think you are preaching to the chorus. The lockdown is over, so I’m traveling again. When I’m in Europe I’m reminded how bad American men dress. I have my opinion but I would like to hear why you think American men dress so bad.

Sorry for the delay in getting back to you Walter. Thank you for sharing your thoughts and experiences Walter. It's great to hear that you've found my videos entertaining and that they've resonated with you. I appreciate your interest in the topic of men's fashion and your thoughtful observations. Regarding your question about why American men tend to dress poorly compared to their European counterparts, here are a few factors that might contribute to this difference: 1. Cultural Differences: In many European countries, there is a long-standing tradition of valuing personal appearance and fashion. This cultural emphasis often translates into a greater awareness and appreciation for stylish dressing. In contrast, American culture has historically prioritised practicality and comfort, which can sometimes come at the expense of style. 2. Casualisation of Dress Codes: Over the past few decades, there has been a significant shift towards more casual dress codes in the U.S. This trend, driven by the tech industry and the rise of remote work, has made casual wear more acceptable in various settings, including the workplace. As a result, many men may not feel the need to dress up or invest in stylish clothing. 3. Accessibility and Exposure: Europeans often have greater access to high-quality fashion brands and boutiques, which can influence their style choices. Additionally, European cities, with their rich histories and fashion-forward cultures, provide more opportunities for people to be exposed to and inspired by stylish dress. 4. Fashion Education and Media: European media, including magazines, TV shows, and online content, tends to place a higher emphasis on fashion. This constant exposure can help cultivate a more fashion-conscious mindset. While the U.S. has its share of fashion media, it often competes with other entertainment and lifestyle content that may not prioritise style as much. 5. Social Expectations: In some European countries, there are stronger social expectations and norms around dressing well, especially in public and professional settings. These expectations can encourage individuals to pay more attention to their appearance. Ultimately, while these factors can contribute to the differences in men's fashion between the U.S. and Europe, it's important to note that personal style is subjective and can vary widely within any culture. The good news is that fashion is becoming more accessible and diverse globally, and platforms like KZbin are helping to spread style inspiration across borders. I'd love to hear more about your own experiences and any tips you might have for men looking to elevate their style. Thank you again for your message, and I look forward to continuing the conversation. Thanks for your continued support👍🙂
