Since *Clubhouse* is becoming increasingly popular: The Phonecall Integration of the Zoom P4 does also work to bring your Podcast Setup (Professional Mic, Multiple Mics, Sound Pads, and more) into Clubhouse Room! This is one of the easiest and at the same time cheapest ways to do this if you are building a new setup. For around $200 USD + Mic & TRRS Cable, you are ready to go. There are other tones of other solutions that could also work like the crsp.li/iRig2 but that's really only useful if you already have a different audio recorder you are trying to integrate. Happy clubbing 🌸.

60W is enough. I personally like braided cables and I tend to look for cables that also support between 60 and 100W. Ideally, I mark them with some tape to know which ones support what throughput cause USB-C does not equal USB-C sadly 🙈.

Great video Chris, very comprehensive. One question, would it be possible to connect a USB mic (ie Rode NT USB Mini, via USB A to C adapter) to the USB port ? I'm just trying to use the gear I have rather than purchase a XLR mic, and record simple phone call via 3.5mm port. Thanks!
@ChrisSpiegl3 жыл бұрын
Hello, at the time I did not make this test. However, I do not think that this would be possible because: no matter what you connect to the P4 (phone or laptop) in both cases the other device (phone/laptop) act act as the USB-Host. When you connect a mic the P4 would have to act as a USB-Host which I do not think it can. So in that case you will most certainly be better of connecting the Røde NT-USB Mini to a laptop and record the phone call there (skype/zoom/zencaster). I would recommend Zencaster since they have a free option available to do high quality recordings.

so to connect to clubhouse - I can connect my ipad (from mic socket) to the 3rd channel. and by plugging my headphones into the 3rd channel I can hear clubhouse. However in order to speak will I always need an xlr mic or is there any other way to do this? Will any splitter work? I assume the built in mic within the ipad or bluetooth earbuds will not work? I am a bit reluctant to try it live in a room haha! Trying to perhaps avoid a big mic if possible all of the time. Or maybe that is the only way? But then it would be call to be able to use the sound pad or perhaps link up sound from my computer in the future. So need to check to see if both these would be heard on clubhouse (once I unmute myself) Any guidance would be appreciated as to my options.

Hi, multiple things to tackle here: 1) you can always just create a small private room with just a friend or so to test things out without the need to feel embarrassed or something. 2) If you are using a P4 or similar, then it would not really make any sense to not use at least a XLR mic (those can be handheld XLR mics and some cost around 20 - 30$ so that should not be the problem I guess)? Why else would you want to use the P4 to begin with? 3) you can always use Track 3 and 4 together (for iPhone, iPad + computer integration. 4) With the iPad however, I would probably recommend to use the USB-C port to USB-C port… then however, the iPad acts as if it is a computer and will be on channel 4. Good luck and happy chatting 🌸.

Have you done a video about how to integrate the Podtrak P4 while doing video and audio at the same time? How do you synch the audio to the video?
@ChrisSpiegl2 жыл бұрын
Hello Scott, I have not specifically created a video about that. But the sync process is the same as when you do any other audio sync. Ideally, while recording, you do a clap sync of some sort at the start, record audio and video in the camera and additionally, record the audio in the P4. Then in post (for example in Premiere Pro which I use): you put the video+audio track on one line and the audio tracks from the P4 on another and either select them all and right click + sync or manually sync the audio wave forms based on the clap sync at the start. Should work pretty well. In very long recordings you may run into issues with the 48 vs 44.1 thing but it should be minor.

I am on full frame Canon EOS R type cameras (2x EOS R / 1x R5C) and I use the 15-35mm, 35mm f/1.8, and the 24-105mm most of the time. Occasionally, I use the 70-200mm but that's a speciality lens. In terms of recommendations: it's very hard because it highly depends on the style of content you want to make (the videos / photos you would like to shoot). As a KZbin, I would always recommend something wide-angle equivalent to 15 or maybe 18 mm on full frame, and going into the 35 /50mm range.

Of course, that should be possible. Just send the signal out of your mixer via XLR and then plug those two XLR into two of the inputs of the P4. The P4 will then record these inputs just as normal and you may just have to pan these files left right in post processing if you want a stereo mix.

What's the difference between this and the zoom H6?
@ChrisSpiegl3 жыл бұрын
There are many aspects which one could compare here. The main points: - Zoom H6 can record up to 6 XLR mics (with extension capsule) - Zoom H6 has higher bit depth and sample rate - Zoom P4 has 4 headphone outputs (H6 has just one and needs extension or other ways to control multiple headphone levels) - Zoom P4 has sound pads for playing sounds like intro and outro while recording. - Zoom P4 has a audio interface mode and phone integration which can also record locally on the device while doing these things. As far as I am aware with the H6 you can only choose to either be in Audio Interface mode or in local SD recording mode). The price may also be different however, the H6 could be bought used and may be cheaper that way. I have not compared these two devices in person. I have owned the H6 about 5 years ago and it was awesome for what I was using it for. But Right now, if you buy new, and your goal is to mainly do podcasts. I probably would go for the P4. Hope that helps, if you have more questions, let me know. Also, tomorrow a video is dropping which will discuss the H5 vs P4 (not the H6 but maybe that will help you). Have a great day 🌸.

Hello there and let's sum up on video call specifically. What are the steps when you want to make a video/phone call via Skype messenger etc apps and you want to speak via your mic connected to p4 and hear the voice of your guest via earphones connected to p4. I made all the adjustments needed but I hear simultaneously my voice mainly and the voice of the guest not clearly and without having the possibility to adjust/level up the volume. What am I doing wrong?
@ChrisSpiegl3 жыл бұрын
What you are hearing is exactly what should be happening with the PodTrak P4. It is designed so that everybody hears everybody (including themselves). The only channel which does not have that is the Phone/Computer connection since there you generally don't want to send the signal back to the person. What you would like to have is a mix-minus output but this is not possible with the P4. The P4 will always output your own voice and the guest. If you hear yourself too loud, you could adjust your levels but that also makes your voice less loud on the other end. But you could of course turn up the volume of your guest on the P4 to hear them more clearly. If you do want to achieve what you are saying, you'd be better off just hooking your headphones up to your computer (if the Skype person is the only thing you're trying to hear).

Hello Chris! This is a very helpful video. I have a Samsung note 10, which forced me to use USB C adapter to 3.5mm jack. I got a TRRS cable and connect it to Zoom P4, and I use the headphone output from P4. The problem here is, if i connect the Zoom p4 headphone jack to a speaker, i have feedback because of my mic picking up my voice in the speaker. However, i don't want to use headphone. Therefore, i bought a usb c splitter into dual 3.5mm output (similar to what you did for iphone). Now, the problem is, the speaker has no sound, and the mic port does not pick the sound from P4 TRRS. Do you have any insight on how to solve it? My main objective is to hear caller voice only on a speaker, as during the podcasting, there are around 9 people in the room who wants to hear what the talker on the wechat (a social media program) said on the Android phone. Thank you Chris!!!
@ChrisSpiegl3 жыл бұрын
Phew, first, thanks - great you found this vid. About the other challenge: I am not really sure about Android and such. The only solution I can think of is to try to put the iPhone onto speaker mode? Or record the audio into its own audio recorder and put the speakers there? Because the P4 will always output all the mics you have connected and thus do the feedback loop. Really not an easy setup you’re dealing with 😅.

@@ChrisSpiegl thank you chris. I guess I have to find ways to split the audio at the cellphone before going into zoom. I will research more. I see h6 may do mix minus, but not sure would it fit my case, which is broadcasting caller voice only. Let's see. Thanks for your reply, Chris!
@ChrisSpiegl3 жыл бұрын
@@muccku7231 what you need - it sounds like is a splitter between headphone out and mic in on the phone. Then a duo splitter for the mic port only so that you can route one into the P4 and the other to your speaker. But then you’d still want to connect the mic in of the iPhone to the P4 as well so that the person can hear everybody but not themselves. This really is a tricky thing. Especially considering it actually would be really easy if you’d just use headphones vor everybody that’s on location - since that’s really what the P4 excels at with the phone integration. I would still say that probably the best idea would be to split mic and headphone out on the phone, then route the headphone out into a different recorder and the which is hooked up to a speaker (this could even be a laptop). And then the mic in on the phone linked to one of the headphone ports of the P4. Good luck 🍀. And happy tinkering. P.S. I think I used the H6 in the past and I’m pretty sure that one does not do mix minus. You may be able to route something up with the F6 which I am using but that’s a definite workaround solution. Very much a special case. Maybe the H8 does mix minus. But I have not used that and I kinda doubt that it would do that since it’s not really made for this kind of use case either.

@@ChrisSpiegl hello Chris, I spent a month to try different splitter for Samsung a20 and Samsung note 10, but I have no luck. I gave up on Android. For iPhone, do you have experience on working splitter for mic and headphone? Like what model is your iPhone and what brand is your working splitter? Thanks for sharing.
@ChrisSpiegl3 жыл бұрын
@@muccku7231 hi. Sorry to hear that. I am using an iPhone 11 Pro Max. My girlfriend is using a iPhone XR and it works in both. And the brand of the splitter does not really have a brand. It’s impossible to link to as I have mentioned many times. But just make sure it supports calls so it also supports mic and headphones.

Hello Sir, i have questions? how to connect zoom p4 to DSLR camera?
@ChrisSpiegl3 жыл бұрын
You'd want to use a TRS to TRS cable (AUX Cable) and connect your camera mic port to one of the Headphone output ports of the Zoom P4.

Have you tried to use this as an interface for Clubhouse app too?
@ChrisSpiegl3 жыл бұрын
Actually no, I am kinda pinching myself for that 🙈 since I have been trying to get better sound into Clubhouse myself. Now, a hunch, since I don't have the P4 any more for testing… I would say it probably works. Reasoning: it's a TRRS connection which works for phone cals, so that should also work for Clubhouse. It actually is probably one of the easiest ways to integrate sound/music/mic into Clubhouse rooms without having to buy tones of additional adapters and cables. Hope that helps 🌸.

Can an zoom H4n pro do most of these things?
@ChrisSpiegl3 жыл бұрын
I don't think so, the H4n does not have multiple headphone outputs, it does not feature a soundboard, and also does not have the phone integration. They are very much two very different devices. But if you just want to record a few mics, then the H4n would work just the same I'd say.

Chris, meine liebe Herr, du bist wunderschon, aber.... we need the links to the TRRS cables and those iPhone adapters!! See, one would think... ah, it's easy to buy cables, what's the fuss...? No, it's not. For someone who isn't a sound engineer.... these cables look exactly the same!! Numbers like 3.5mm and 2.5mm and three marks and two marks and adapters... no no no no. For example, we almost bought one TRRS - realised in the last moment, that there is a difference between the size of jacks on the two ends.... Just link the one that you would recommend!!! For us, 'ordinary citizens', words like AUX and TRRS and Stereo cable... this is all Chinese! (or Greek, depending where you live...) HTPS! (Help the poor souls! - the IT version of morse code SOS) By the way, please don't just use Amazon. We prefer buying on Ebay (UK), not Amazon, because 1. Ebay is generally cheaper. 2. Ebay gives free postage, and with Amazon, the postage can cost more than the actual cable... (unless you spend at least £25 and you spend it all with Amazon and not other suppliers) And 3. on Ebay the buyer can contact with supplier with one click. On Amazon, you need to be Sherlock (Holmes) to find the way to contact the supplier. (Yes, it is understood that if you recommend a product on Ebay, you don't make money out of it, because it's no affiliate... Well, sometimes we shall do things not for personal gain, but because we want to help...) So, bitte zehr which cables?? cheers

I try to provide as much information and links as I can manage. Linking to eBay is sadly not an option for me because they do not have "product pages" and I could only link to a search. I hope you can find all the necessary cables based on my directions and the information I provide in the video.

The Best way is to put your phone onto speaker phone and hold it close to your microphone and turn your speakers up.

I'd say that the integration via the TRRS port is way higher quality. But if it's all you have then it's the way to go.

iOS literally SUCKS for podcasting because it doens't let you use a USB audio device for phone call or skype or voip. You can setup an audio interface and it will NOT work for phone calls.
@ChrisSpiegl3 жыл бұрын
That's why these Phone Call Integrations through TRRS cables are such a big deal - because they do work. Would it be nice to use USB audio devices? Sure, for like a hand full of people. Does TRRS suffice? Yes, absolutely.
@JeffBourke3 жыл бұрын
@@ChrisSpiegl you have to turn the output on your mixer waaay down to a level suitable for the phone TRRS such that you are feathering it to try to find the right level. TRRS is sub optimal. Not worth paying money for. I think your could get USB audio interface to work on android.
@ChrisSpiegl3 жыл бұрын
@@JeffBourke I have tried the TRRS integration with the Zoom PodTrak P4. It sounds great and you don’t have to “turn down” anything substantially. This is made for phone call integrations. What you are saying is true for Line Out ports though. Those don’t work when connected to a phone. But that’s not what the PodTrak P4 is doing. But if Android works better for you, I’m not holding you back to try.
