Hello, Isaiah and John. I’ve been meaning to text this for a few days now. I am 21 y/o, 5” 9.5’, and I’ve been training my jump for half a year now, slowly increasing it from barely touching the net to being a few inches over the rim and almost dunking now. But it was all over the place and very unorganized. Now, for the last 2 months I’ve been doing the things Zay showed in his daily training uploads, spending a few hours a day decomposing his training, patterns, deloads, reps and sets, completing the missed upload days and missed exercises in my head according to my incomplete knowledge, using the cues, colors of the plates and random phrases heard in the background. Now that you discontinued this series I am spiraling. I have no idea how to structure my eccentric max strength and SCC cycles. The exercises, the technique, I miss those videos and I need them badly. I’ve been deloading for two going into third week now. So all I am asking - can you please share what Zay is doing this cycle for training, at least in textual format. I would greatly appreciate it and can keep on being consistent by doing at least something. PS I would love to go on THP but I have quit my job and currently fundraising for my startup so I am sort of in safety mode financially but as soon as I get a bit more air I will hop on it ASAP. 🙏🏽 PSS After the first (hypertrophy) phase I put on ~2 kg of muscle in my legs and my jump increased, but after this last phase of concentric/isometric work even though I backsquatted 140 kg (80 kg bodyweight) for 4 reps for the first time in my life - my jump got slower, less controlled and decreased in vertical a bit. I suspect the reason is I got stronger in both concentric and isometric parts of the jump but now I can’t control the eccentric part. Hoping the next phase will balance it. One other reason might be that I am doing knee isos only once a day not 3 times hence my knees are not strong enough. Or maybe some other factors affected my jump this last week, idk.

2.5 pounds per inch is the best height to weight ratio for dunking isaiah rivera, jordan kilganon, rookie year michael jordan, larry nance, mac mcclung all have a ratio of 2.5 spud webb had a ratio of 2, brook lopez was a 3 at 260 lbs when he was drafted with a 30 inch vert, success leaves clues

I have something for you guy. It's relative clear that this lift (powerclean) does correlate well with general jump performance. But we know correlation is not causation! It very likely could be that the best/most talented athletes are just gifted at displaying high velocity strength. And if not. What's the reason this exercise work so well? Is it RFD, impulse, specificity, hormone release? probably a combination of them all. But does that mean we should aim to progress the oly lifts in load no matter what? that would mean we must progress in the squat too! Jumps correlate strong with loaded jumps. Loaded jumps correlate strong with olympic lifts, they do with general strength work (squats, deadlift). It's probably a catch! what's about the max power zone for cleans @ ~70-80%? Is it better to just train those lifts at that zone to generate max peak power? what's about variations like hang cleans, snatches, single leg cleans? Are they even more effective/specific? what about the argument other 'experts' make that OLY lifts aren't the holy grail or even a waste of time because of their diffictulty in comparison to relative simple loaded jumps? Are they old shool and not state of the art? There are other power training methods like pneumatic resistance, elastic resistance, iso inertial resistance. Some are scientifically more effective, but maybe not practically more effective. This is by no mean a critique. The best jumper in the world (sry it's not Isaiah) used this lift as a major part in this training. So it's very likely no BS!

I think i commented this on the first video. My arm tends to bend around the end of the first pull when I initiate a power clean. What would you cue so that the arms are straighter?

The problem is if you UNBEND after you bend them at the end of the first pull. Thats the only tie its an issue

@@JohnEvans I see! I also tend to jump back a bit when anticipating the catch. Will that be covered in a future video as far as the catch is concerned in relation to the second pull, or is that a symptom usually of the first pull being off
