I can only hope that in the long march of history, true brilliance like this doesn't get lost beneath the avalanche of mediocrity that is commercial pop music. Mastodon deserves to be in the same league as Tool, Black Sabbath, and Led Zeppelin. Their music is a spiritual and emotional experience.
@aprilbundy43953 жыл бұрын
This is better than all of the aforementioned. Been a Mastodon fan since they were just a local band in Atlanta. Some epic metal came out of that Y2K era Atlanta scene that never saw the light of day. Something Left After Misfortune and Simple Sick Device are two that come to mind I wish I could resurrect. Regardless, Mastodon reigns and I can’t be sorry about that, they have always been musically exquisite and this album is truly perfect.

@Flux Incapacitator Dude this track quite literally is one of the most instrumentally amazing guitar pieces that has ever been conceived. It's not hardcore, but it's just out there. This is probably as good as soft Mastodon can get along with Cold Dark Place EP. It's crazy when Brent cracked his head open back in 07' their riffs started shifting with this album. They got way more intact with their emotions in the music. Some people don't like that that happened. You gotta admit that 4ths riff before brent starts singing "Crack the Skye" sounds like you are marching to heaven.

I took a break from many things, including music, for the most part. This song hunted me down and dragged me back in. I love it long time, and ask for no reach around in return, or any such additional compensation.

listening through this album right now, never heard this band before. The guitar solo caught me off guard. So fucking good

It seems this incredible album has meant a lot to a lot of people. I never realised until recently the tragedy behind this album. When it came out I Loved it, and saw them play it. I was having a very traumatic time. It’s amazing how much in touch this album was. It helped me a lot. Amazing!

They're the two best prog metal bands that I've listened to. If there are any other bands out there similar in style and/or quality to either of them, I'd love to know about them. Most prog metal that I know of is inspired by the likes of Dream Theater and that whole style. I enjoy What Tool and Mastodon are doing quite a bit more than bands like Dream Theater or Shadow Gallery. There is virtually no self indulgent wanking going on in this music. It is progressive in a very real sense, in that it takes the listener through a deep journey.
