Actually, Friends And Lovers got good reviews and placed solidly in the ratings. People were watching it. It was sandwiched between All In The Family and Mary Tyler Moore on Saturday nights. CBS had high hopes for it being a smash hit. That's why they put it between two of their biggest shows. While it did do well, it was not the smash hit that CBS thought it would be. That's why they replaced it mid-season with The Jeffersons, which did turn out to be the smash hit they wanted for that time slot.

That's what I said to myself after he read the question - "6!". Gene said covered with BEAUTIFUL feathers, and he repeated BEAUTIFUL! You generally always want to give an answer that rhymes. Key word HicKOK. How could there be any answer but PEACOCK! Orson comes up with "chicken" (chickens have "beautiful" feathers?!); Brett answers "Feasant" (better than chicken); only Charles had the obvious answer of Peacock; Penny also inexplicably said "chicken"; even Richard - who can almost always be counted on to give the correct answer - said "chicken"; at least Betty had a good reason for not saying the obvious response. Not that I didn't want Kerry to win, but Charlie was robbed!!

Carrie Newland looks great in this episode. Maybe she got a Ph.D. in something. She seems pretty smart. Orson is smart but not so funny, okay I guess. Brett can be annoying but she does provide energy to the show. Charles and Richard are the funniest and once in a while Betty gets a zinger, too. Penny Marshall looks like she wants to be somewhere else. It would be odd to have the much older host repeatedly come on to you.
