Staggered Stance Deadlift is great. But, if you want to eccentricaly overload the hamstrings, lift bilateral (two legs) and lower unilateral (single leg, or staggered stance). Great work 💪🏻💪🏻

google keith barr. he is a sports scientist who has done research on this. You do isometric holds of 5-10 mins and take glycine and vit c. When you get good enough to do light running. You warm up with some shorter iso exercise of 5x45s with 2 min recovery. This warm up has been shown to reduce tendinipathy pain in a session.

As a distance runner whenever I do deadlifts, front squats, back squats, split squats etc I am unable to run well until I completely recover from it. My form is bad for the next few days and it is hard to sustain paces for workouts. Whenever I’m in a phase of only easy running and high volume I think that is best for me to start hitting weights hard.

Nice video, how come you are not a fan of 1/4 squats? I think 1 leg 1/4 squats allows for not putting such a heavy load on your back. There has been a few research papers citing the benefits for sprinters and jumpers.
@hovejoha
@hovejoha 2 жыл бұрын
I do more one legged quarter squats than two legged quarter squats. I perfer deeper squats for the bigger range of motion, the use of more muscle groups, and bigger stimuli with less weight compared to quarter squats. As you said one will get more compression of the back with heavy quarter squats, doing them with one leg indeed avoids that, and I believe one legged might be better suited for sprinting. Also I would not reccomend deep squats around competition months.

@@hovejoha Yeah i just do a November/ early December strength improvement - 1 session squat to parallel 1 session single 1/4 squat. Then move to power and more plyos. Like you, I tend to do more maintenance during in season. Cheers for the reply and I have implemented quite a few of your sessions in my year programme - so thanks for all the great content

you really should mention that your strength numbers are far beyond normal. A double BW Powerclean and 1.5 BW snatch is elite. I think it is important to know what is realistic and even more important what is needed. Sprinters don't need the achieve any strength numbers. Most athletes can't get close to this level even if they would focus their whole training around lifting.
@hovejoha
@hovejoha 2 жыл бұрын
Indeed, I believe I have mentioned that the lifting is not absolutely necessary at some occasions. For some it may help a lot, but it may also be detrimental to speed if it is done too much or with wrong technique. I have a talent for weightlifting, and I had a big interest for it in training from an early point of training. I believe most people realize that it is an area of training where I am relatively strong compared to what is normal for most sprinters at my level, but it is as you say worth mentioning.
