Really great tutorial. Seeing the construction process really brings out the design of the structure.

Darn, still just short of making this one... Placing another order today for more magnets! I'm gonna be able to make this soon I hope! Your builds are absolutely breathtaking Mathnetism! How does it feel to rise above the normality of everyday people and become immortalized in the halls of the greats? Your builds really are one of a kind, and I for one am EXTREMELY GRATEFUL to you for sharing them with us! Thank you!!

+Mathnetism like isn't nearly a sting enough word! I've invested hundreds of dollars just so I can reproduce your works... So my daughter and I can reproduce your works... And we have! That feeling you get when a REALLY BIG & COMPLICATED project comes together- that bubbly/happy/"oh thank god that it worked" feeling... It's nothing compared to looking over and seeing that feeling in my daughters eyes. Thank you Mathnetism! It's been worth every penny and hour spent! And I'm planning on continuing to spend $ and time! You can plan on having a HUGE fan here in Ontario! She's 9, and her dad Chris thinks your pretty awesome too!

sir i would just like to say that although this is very cool i can't get over the fact that you literally made a d20 from magnets

It’s got 20 sides. It’s an icosahedron meaning 20 sided polyhedron.

...the way you gently forced that single magnet out ... your fingertips probably have got magnetic too!! (and of course a 1000 thanks for the tutorial)

I usually just use some other magnets to pull it out, but I didn't have any extra magnets at hand ;-) You're welcome.

First you build these hexagon pieces, you need 80 in total. [instructions for that] Next you build these basic pentagons, you need 12. [instructions for that] Combine those pentagons with 5 hexagons each to make bigger pentagons. [instructions for that] Combine those larger pentagons. [instructions for that] Finally add the remaining 20 hexagons into the holes. [instructions for that] This is the shape. Now, I'm gonna smash it. [shape is smashed]

So, i made this shape, lots of work:) awesome by the way! when i was done i figured it was a good time to count my magnets, as i had few left. I missed 60 (and i have a young girl hiding stuff all over the place). I looked for over an hour to find my missing 60 magnets:P then i weighted my shape.. its actually 5520:P The 'corner' pieces are actually 60 magnets too. (5+10+15+20 + 5 +10 +15 - 5 - 5 -10). So the total shape is (80+12)*60=5520
