When I was 15 I made a paper model of that plane in scale 1:50. I did it using only the cut-section drawings I had from the "Aircraft" magazine. I learned every corner of that airplane in this way on the inside and outside. And when I was finally able to touch one in the aircraft museum in Speyer, Germany... i honestly started to cry...27 years later. It is a beautiful aircraft in its designline, and in this respect I'd even compare it with a spitfire... i know, I've just raised a shitstorm but that is how I feel. This design is sleak, slender, classy, yet badass... like that girlfriend you always dreamed of. Cheers😆

F-15 is seriously underappreciated these days. The Ruskies love to dismiss it out of hand because they need to measure their d's against F-22 and F-35. The ruth is that the C has T/W that makes any Sukhoi blush, more modern radars, great IR, AIM-120D and -9X, and very soon EPAWSS that would make Khibiny pods look like a silly toy.

Most of the Russian forces are made in smaller batches too. "The SU-35 is great and equal to the Eagle" Yep, too bad there are only 100 in existence against the 1200 F-15's. "The SU-57 is the same as the F-22" And I'm sure all 9 of them can stand up to 195 F-22's. Quantity is a quality of its own.

the SU-35S is superior in evry way to all F15 variants in radar range, thrust to weight ,more hardpoints (1 more not really that important but still more),has a superior missile selection (baic R77 has superior range to the basic AIM-120 and even the latter 120B variant as well as the R-77-1 has better range then the AIM-120C and the R-77M has better range then the AIM-120D,the same goes for the AIM-9 the R-73 and its variants all have better range then their respective US counterparts. Also following the persons logic below you so are the US's aircraft fleet is 90% from the cold war the F16 and F15 are the back bone,also in what way is the EPAWSS superior the the Kibiny?
@dumdumbinks274
@dumdumbinks274 7 жыл бұрын
The Su-35S is only superior to current US F-15Cs and F-15Es. Try against an F-15SA and it will be entirely down to pilot skill. The R-77M is still in the prototype phase, whereas the AIM-120D has been operationally deployed for more than 2 years and a replacement for the AIM-120 series is in development. The R-77-1 has greater range than the AIM-120C-5, not necessarily the C-7. In terms of the IR missiles, the AIM-9 is a better dogfight missile and is actually longer ranged than the R-73. That slightly better range offered by the R-74 is not much value compared to the still superior off-boresight capability of the AIM-9X.
@martinpetrovsk9725
@martinpetrovsk9725 7 жыл бұрын
i can say for shure the R-77-1 is not only longer range then all C variants but also more accurate (seen by the AIM-120's not so good hit ratio)even so the SU35 can carry some R27EP's Also the AIM-9X's off-boresight capability is not that spetchial mostly since the SU-35 will fly sucles around any F15 varant,its simly dose not have the turning radius or climb rait to mach a SU35 and their is no way in hell a AIM9 can mach the high g truns of a SU35.

Until the mig was flown into Japan in 1976 the west thought the foxbat could fly at mach 3 at 100,000 feet the mig was built to intercept the B 70 had it ever been built. Hey Matsimus. I doubt you'll ever see this comment, but I just wanted to say that your comment at the end about how you feel about anyone who has worked on an F-15, as well as the pilots, kinda touched me. I currently work on the F-15 at one of the bases it's stationed at and I haven't quite felt too happy about my specific job lately. However your video has helped me realise that I am lucky to have had the oppertunity to work on this jet to the extent I have. It truly is a remarkable jet and I love it no matter how few hours of sleep it lets me get due to how loud it is when it flies overhead while I'm trying to sleep during the day. Keep making your awesome content and I'll do my best to keep watching as I can't quite afford to donate to you or many other youtubers on Patreon even though I want to. One slight quibble - the F-15E was originally a completely independent project by McDonald Douglass. The USAF just jumped on the bandwagon when they realised how good it was with the newer much more powerful engines (2x29,000 pounds thrust vs 2x23,000 pounds thrust) and just how little extra drag the CFT's caused (less than 3% in many configurations and in a few configurations they actually reduce drag). So longer legs, higher power to weight ratio when "clean" more hard points, and I believe the Radar was improved in Air to Air modes as well as having the addition of ATG. Personally I think only three fighters have been as far ahead of the game when entering service as this one. The ME262, The English Electric Lightening and the MIG-31.

Even sitting on the ground they were mean looking machines. (My preference is towards the F5.) During the air shows, we got the best seats in the shade of the revetments. The VIPs and general crowds would be in stands out under the hot desert sun while we had our lawn chairs and snacks a good distance away from the unwashed masses. 😁 Oh, the roar of those mighty warbirds! I LOVE the F-15 since I was 12 or 13 years old. When I spotted Eagles in the sky I grabbed a towel and ran on top of a nearby hill with a ruin of a castle. The eagles often passed that ruin flying low enough I could actually see the pilot and if he had his mask on and the visor on his helmet down. The towel? It was used to wave it and the pilots often answered by waving back with their wings. Oh those memories… By the way: many thanks to those pilots of the Bitburg Eagles who made a boy happy!

Honestly the F-15 is more than a match for pretty much any other fighter out there. Except the F-22, F-35. The F-35 has dominated it in recent exercises. 4 F-35's vs up to 16 F-15's and the F-35 had zero losses. I'd say the Tiffy in it's most updated versions is better than the F-15. But not by alot. Also, the F-15's have the AIM X sidewinder that really turns it into a killer in close even with the most maneuverable fighters out there. You can pretty much shoot a missile at a target that is 90 degrees from the jets center line. Watched an actual test vid and it was unreal. Just look and shoot. search on youtube for vids on the AIMx Sidewinder. Some pretty unreal footage. Also, just a thought, the F-15 has been the quintessential fighter jet for 40 years. When you say fighter jet to even someone who really has no clue about military aviation. It's the jet that even they envision as a fighter Jet. I'm 42, but I still remember having the GI JOE F-15 toy fighter when I was probably 12 yo... And it's still flying. Pretty unreal.

I was soooo ready for the F-22 to replace the F-15! I love the F-15, don't get me wrong, but I was stoked that our country was going ahead of the curve with our next generation air DOMINANCE fighter. It pisses me off that the program was cancelled. Honestly, between the B-2, F-22 and F-35, we could have retired the F-15, F-16 and F-117. That would have given us a slimmer, yet more capable Air Force. Even though we're, what, 15 years since the F-22 was introduced into squadron service, I still think we should restart production and fill out our inventory. Anyway, I'm glad you appreciate our aircraft so much. Makes me feel proud to be an American.

I've seen the F16, F22 and F15 in different airshows and I've got to say that I've had the pleasure of seeing the F15 once and it was unreal. I didn't expect it to be cooler than the F22 in flight but it blew away in its utterly visceral demonstration.

An exceedingly capable and handsome aircraft. Those two qualities are not often combined. Excellent all-round, this aircraft perhaps represents the epoch of American fighter key design. The reason I suggest this is the fact that it was designed and constructed without the facilities we enjoy today yet it was, at the time, a game changer and to this day a potent, combat proven adversary. Three cheers to the people at McDonnell Douglas. Great product.

Especially when you describe how much superior American military products really are....and if anyone would know, you have been exposed to many different products from many different countries. So again, appreciate you not jumping on the “anti-American” bandwagon like everyone else..... and I will be contributing to your patreon

And correct you I shall...The Mig-25 was good at going very fast very straight and turning tons of fuel into noise, but it was a hardly a "fighter" much less better than the F-4 imho. Designed to counter the SR-71/U-2 threat seems to me. Would I like a ride in the back seat of the family model? You bet! Thanks Mats, love your aircraft posts. Keep them coming!

[Edit v2] The "C" Model's F100-220 engines generate 23,770 lbs (105.7 kN) of thrust at full afterburner per engine while the "E" Model's F100-229 engines generate 29,160 lbs (129.7 kN) of full AB thrust per engine. Wonderful engines. Easy to repair as well! Just remembered: There is a F-15EX model coming soon that can carry over two dozen missiles. Such a wild bird and I love it.

The f15 was designed in response to the mig25. The USAF were convinced the mig was a dogfighter & they were very surprised later on when they found out that it was just a very high speed interceptor. The US did not get their hands on the mig until the 1970s by which time the f15 was well into flight trails. Indeed the old motto of the f15 design team - "not a pound for the ground"

Matsimus, just an update. F-15’s are currently being upgraded with new AESA radars and large digital touch displays. No more pulse Doppler radars. Japan started their upgrades years ago and will be finished soon. The US has a limited number completed. The F15 will be able to carry up to 16 air to air weapons and using a talon hate pod on 1 F15 in a squad they can communicate with F22’s and F35’s and launch weapons at their targets down range.

Back in 1976, on a routine training mission, Soviet pilot, Viktor Belenko defected to Japan with a brand new Mig-25 Foxbat. It was given to the U.S. to inspect and Belenko was given asylum in the U.S. (Was still living in California a few years ago) Not long afterwards, the U.S. realized the Foxbat wasn't nearly as advanced or as capable as they first thought. However, they took the Mig-25 and created the F-15 Eagle. It was a direct result of what the U.S. discovered in the Foxbat, only the Eagle was way better in every aspect. Several great books about the defection, the analysis of the Foxbat, and the aftermath. I would recommend "Mig Pilot". Great book!

If they had the time - they would made the Typhoon. Not that the F-15 is a bad aeroplane. But it first flew in 1972. The Typhoon first flew in 1994 and has benefitted from 20 years extra evolution. That basically makes Typhoon 10-15% smaller for the same performance.

The main issue is the future! The russians try to field something just on par with the F-15 - and are really not succeeding. The question at the moment is how much potential there is in Russia. The F-35 might be enough to take out the russian SAM's which in effect will leave the russians without air defence. The F-35 was the way the americans chosed to go for the post Russia era. F-35 is a large aircraft - a sliver bigger than F-15. But the range is (according to Wikipedia) > 1200 nm and the Typhoon is 1800 nm - now these figures I don't believe for a second and are manipulated mission profiles and do not add up. The Typhoon carries 5 tons of fuel internally and the F-35 8-8½ tons - also internally. The F-35 is not that much worse aerodynamically. The point being: The american solution to deployment of fighters involving tankers is perhaps not the smartest thing - it can be done; but at considerable cost. I suppose it is mainly for the american Pacific theater where distances are much bigger. The Typhoon manages by having a delta wing which in itself gives higher fuel volume because the wing profile can be thin and due to the length of the wing near the body actually is quite thick. How important stealth is remains to be seen. Comparison with F-15 is a no-brainer as the F-15 basically is the optimal radar-reflector and improving on that is not difficult, but again the brute force of the F-15 has so far kept it out of serious trouble. I honestly do not believe the opposition is able to develop an engine in the class of the F100 in the F-15/F-16 much, much less like the engines in the F-35 or the Typhoon. As to stealth - well the british way is to go low. Very low so the observation is not really an issue. Nothing follows a "Tonka" on the deck - and I mean nothing. Trying to will just result in you tearing off your wing. As to load carrying capacity? Well not that essential any more as people these days tend to hit what they are aiming at. In Libya old F-16's could provide close air support against tanks - to bloody CIVILIANS. Granted there was no airdefence, but still. If you go on the cheap: Refit kits for old fashioned iron bombs are available at a modest cost. If you really mean business there is a Storm Shadow or Brimstone. They ought to end a lot of futile debates. The aim of Nato is to deter and convince the russians that it cannot in any way shape or form be in their interest to challenge Nato or even Britain (in or out of the EU) - so they might as well adjust their behavior before serious pain comes to them. The russian assertiveness is appearing still more as the most stupid political move since granting women suffrage - and they better stop before more harm comes of it. As it is in the Baltic the Russians are working themselves into a position where "bloody Denmark" has to be asked for permission to float a rubber dingy.

F-15 still have useful roles and new highly advanced variants should be purchased to serve alongside the stealth fighters and complement them with different capabilities. A semi stealthy extreme long range multirole variant would be useful for escort and patrol as well as being available to back up the stealth fighters with large weapons loads. This new variant could combine much of the stealth features of the silent eagle variant with the large external weapons load of the 2040C variant and use extra internal volume and conformal tanks for a large fuel load. A two seat version of the same could be used for training and electronic warfare. Current F-15s in USAF inventory are already at high airframe flight hours so a replacement with these new variants would be appropriate. Both the F-15 C/D Eagles and F-15 E Strike Eagles could gradually be replaced by about 500 of these new variant "Super Eagles". While still highly capable in air to air combat (among the best in the world) the air superiority mission in particular should be filled primarily by a purchase of several hundred new variant modernized F-22s. Together the F-35A strike fighters, F-22B modernized air superiority fighters and F-15 F/G escort fighters would be a potent force and could be ready in a few years, not decades later for some hypothetical 6th gen replacements.

The F-15E when configured with three drop tanks and two conformal FAST Packs. If you stick to dry thrust they are actually good on fuel. When you go wet, hit the afterburners, well that is another story but that is the same with all fighters except those that can super cruise.
