I really liked Mello's and Matt's designs, they got the best fits and appearances in this anime, in my opinion. I was actually really mad when both of them died and it was too bad we never really got to see Matt's personality or anything. Then, I really hated that Near was the one to beat Mello. I absolutely hated Near, he was such an unlikable character and got on my nerves from beginning to end. Nor was Light's death satisfying because L wasn't the one who got him in the end. All that darn work Lawliet did, Near just took and claimed his win.

Poor Mello. He was technically the first one to truly identify the true Kira. He was doing all of this to gain enough evidence to confirm his #1 suspicion. But I do think it's a wonderful twist of fate that he and Light inadvertently worked together to avenge L and expose Kira.

It's been awhile so I might be forgetting something but always seemed out of character for Mello to give Takada any sort of way to hide anything or to see his face, I get being a gentlemen and all that but he was the type of character that didn't take risks, seemed kind of foolish to give her a blanket like that after she saw his face. His death always just annoyed me, felt like it was something he easily could've prevented and something his character usually would've prevented, my only guess is that it was him sacrificing himself to expose the fact about the fake notebook which is brought up again in the last few chapters but besides that, never really understood it.

nickel would you like an explanation? No you don’t, but here it is anyways: The anime was based off of a manga series and has more details the show doesn’t have. Anyways, the school for teaching the successors of L wasn’t just made up from Near and Mellow, there were more children, which includes a character called Matt. Matt didn’t really get any screen time but you get to know more about him from the books. Apparently there was also a character called beyond birthday but I’m not sure about that lol- *Note* I’m not 100% sure about this, I’ve found it in various comment and spoilers
