The timbre in Matt's voice has such heart-wrenching quality to it. It's not necessarily a flawless voice, but I think that's part of the appeal for me. It tugs at your heart, eh? Being in the US, I didn't know about him until I happened to come across his rendition of First Time Ever I Saw Your Face and was blown away. I'm looking forward to the day he records that special song with a timeless hook.

There are so many versions of most of the songs now. The full album version, the acoustic version, and three or four different live performance arrangements. Some are folky, some bluesy, some rocky. There is even a dance club version of Starlight. So just about everyone can find a version they like. I love them all.

And his handling of the Ed Sheeran issue shows that he's serious about that. Instead of using it for some hyped promo he cut all media outreach for 3 weeks and just ploughed on with his tour which started that exact same week.
