I don’t know how accurate it is though. Sure, if you’re gonna cut a check for a Damon level celebrity it’s gotta be a big blockbuster, but there is a huge amount of room on the streaming platforms for less big name actors to play more intimate roles.
@claytonreid996 Жыл бұрын
@@n00dle_kingBut its not really about that. It unfortunately does not matter if streaming services absolutely have the capital to fund a $10 million or less indie project that might be amazing, because those movies aren't going to pull people to your site, or at least not enough people to make a difference in the revenue stream. Big, "amusement park" (Scorsese's words), blockbuster movies like Marvel, or insane sequels/remakes/casted films like the Irishman or Top Gun 2 will bring those people in, so why even bother spending the millions of $ in the first place? I don't think it's that celebrities don't want to show their real personalities. Americas comitization and capitalization of fame from the very beginning meant they were booked on talk shows in a meat grinder gauntlet fashion. Their studios and agents have a scripted list to plug whatever they're selling. They're bored with it and we're bored with it. Then you have something like this that comes along or years ago Graham Norton across the pond and they just get to have a good time even while plugging their project.

@Peter Evans Well, thanks for belittling my idea out of the gate, assuming that I did not think it through, assuming that it was the first thing that popped in my head. Pretty pompous of you. Money does not make that easier - in fact, it makes it harder in many cases - it produces entitlement and disconnection from non-peer groups. Money is just a facet of ones surroundings, which take part in forming who and what a person is/becomes. Just like lack thereof. It does not help make people better - that is a falsehood.

I feel like B-movies get more attention now than before because of streaming services. Like I would never watch a non-blockbuster movie like the mcu in the theaters, but with streaming and time to waste, I watch more B-movies than I did before. I remember Parasite went to streaming first(in my country), then suddenly went big screen when they realize that it is a legit good movie worth watching in theaters. The problem with netflix is they make more so-so movies than good ones.
@junkfoodguy3 жыл бұрын
but look the lawsuits know
@VMYeahVN3 жыл бұрын
@@JOHNOOH It's not necessarily for the worse either though. A lot of those movies used to fail at the box office because they were inherently made for a more niche audience. Their cost was subsidized by the big budget blockbuster movies. Now more of that niche audience is more likely to find that level of content on streaming services, where as before it was harder to get that audience to find the movie in theaters because the smaller movies didn't get as much marketing power out into them. But algorithm based online marketing means those movies almost always find their people.

Who would've thought this show would rise this high? Damon not only did great, but you could tell he has actually watched the show which makes his episode better. Next is Ben Affleck, and maybe a truth or dab with the two of them.

Sad now because I realized Robin Williams can never do this show and that would have been a fantastic episode.

The most valuable parts of this interview are Matt's insight into the film industry today. Fascinating and to some great degree, tragic. Great to hear he's a Burr fan too.

I agree. But I was thinking, he is saying how, for example, he can no longer make certain films like a love affair. Surely there is still interest in this subject matter, and people would still watch?
@D4n1t0o3 жыл бұрын
@@tomadams911 Well, if I recall he said he can't often afford to make nuanced thought pieces, which were his bread and butter (meaning his general fare as an actor). That it's all blockbusters with pre-established fanbases, because studios will only bet on a surefire return investment. I agree with you, there is still immense appetite for nuanced, thoughtful cinema, but some of the best examples of that type of film only did well once they hit DVD. Those types of films have rarely hit it big in cinema, doing better when they can be purchased to watch at home. Meaning, film execs just won't fund them now the DVD is obsolete. For them after all, it's just business.
@tomadams9113 жыл бұрын
@@D4n1t0o Yeah, I get that those films don't fit the 'blockbuster' frame. I guess thats why directors like Nolan etc have done well by at least incorporating some narrative intricacy into their films. But I still think that if the audience is there, which is definitely was in the DVD era, then it MUST still exist in some form
@D4n1t0o3 жыл бұрын
@@tomadams911 But in a form execs can make bank off of? Only bankable examples I can think of are when Netflix or Prime deliver on something like that, which is incredibly rare, because streaming companies generally aim mass market. Prime seems able to afford to take more chances, but it still isn't enough to make up for a whole missing segment of a film industry sadly.

I agree. This and others is like the next generation of "*Inside The Actor's Studio*".
