What an awesome interview. The outlook this man has. He has gone so far, and I love that he is honest about his anxieties which makes those of us dealing with that feel ok. Sometimes it's as much of a stress trigger to know we deal with that. Matt has brought joy to my life and I really needed it. At my age, laughter and smiling is very important and healthy. Much love to Matt.

He got unfairly torn apart after his first Netflix special because people were looking to to bash him. Whenever someone really succeeds, there is an unfortunately sector of miserable people seeking to tear them down. He is so talented, and I'm glad he stepped right back, doing crowdwork, an area where he has skill at a level that most comedians don't have. If he is already this good in his 20s, there is no limit to how good he can get with decades of experience still in front of him.

His first special was fantastic! This new one was a flop. It just wasn’t anywhere near as funny as the first one unfortunately.

👸🏽🇹🇹I recently saw something about becoming famous and money success. It's a breeding ground for abuse. The famous person gets picked on and situated in double binds. It will be unfair for most of his life.

I love stand up comedy in its many forms. That said, when I first saw Matt's stand up back in the day when he was rolling with All Def, I thought his material and everything was hilarious! He offered an interesting perspective. Over time, I noticed the crowds seemed to be simping for him, desperate to be engaged by him. He was still telling jokes around that time. More and more, his audience seemed to turn into thirsty ladies and lads who wanted to gaze upon him and be graced by his attention. From there, the last show of his that I watched featured an audience of people aching to be chosen next. That trajectory is wonderful for his career and for those people who enjoy his present style of comedy, but I can't help feeling kind of bummed out that he ended up doing his comedy in this way that seems to stifle it. Of course, this is all merely my personal opinion. He's a super funny dude, but thirsty people couldn't stop the objectification for one second to let the dude tell jokes. I've no doubt that crowd work is hard, but having your comedy kind of atrophy because the audience can't accept attractive and funny at the same time can be a little bit disappointing. Some of his audiences come off as groupies who will abandon ship as soon as they aren't conversationally centered at his shows anymore. Maybe not; I don't know. I just love stand up, and I appreciate talented comedians; so it just kind of sucks to see someone good become pigeonholed -- even if they are successful at the thing they're pigeonholed into. It's also interesting to see how or in which ways people defend him, when they may not even bother with the comedy that he did when he was telling his stories and sharing his perspectives more directly. I hope that people continue to support him (and other comedians in the same boat) if he opts for a different comedy format in the future.

@@sylviaplath1858 👸🏽🇹🇹I don’t know if you’re familiar with the author Malcolm Gladwell. He writes for the New Yorker and has whole genre of books he invented. I think that if Matt continues to reinvent what Comedy is he could breakthrough the stereotypes people have about Comedy and Comedians. He could create a genre or something of that nature like Malcolm Gladwell. We as the audience member would have to be open to him. It would mean not comparing him to the past or comparing him to other Comedians. People show-up in the clearing you are for them. I did want to comment on the thirsty part. Something you may not be aware of is the effects of chemistry on women. The perception of Matt is that he has the highest status a man could have. The highest status is the most famous, handsome and rich man you can locate. The mode for women will be to capture that man. It starts with his attention. The best I could do about this is warn him. He’s well aware that he being interact with in this way. And it’s self-expression to be on stage. The best he can do is separate his personal and professional life. For the thirsty women please don’t fault them. Chemistry turns us into the worse version of ourselves. It has men and women have sex with people they don’t like. It’s the reason why we have to teach safe sex. Chemistry is always happening and it’s even more disturbing for men. They are always reeling in their sexual attraction to us. Think of it like a dog trying to control the impulse not to lick a persons face, that is how sexual attraction is for men. So much at play during a live interactive performance.

Having seen Matt in Boston and all his specials, there is no one quicker on the crowd with a comeback that's so funny. You have to love how he treats everyone that same, no issues making fun of anyone because people know he's only joking. When he runs into the crowd to take a selfie with the handicapped fans it's heard warming.

👸🏽🇹🇹 I notices that anyone who is famous is in therapy. I wonder are these people in need of therapy? Fame seems to a bad environment for anyone and a breeding ground for exploitation/ abuse. I don’t think all famous people are crazy. I think they reside in crazy making environment.
@unowen-nh9ov16 күн бұрын
Matt is a survivor, & from an early age. William Styron & Myrna Loy wrote that early death of a parent threatened their well-being decades later, Rife works his way through grief. Therapy means he's attempting to deal with it, that is not a bad thing. James Lipton pointed out that most of the stars he interviewed were from broken homes, Matt knew from an early age this is what he wanted to do & unlike most of the rest of us he has fulfilled his dreams. May he continue to do so.
