I'm sure that it was because Matt and Santana were supposed to just be background noise in season one that their relationship wasn't explored, but I always felt that it would have been nice to have them make Matt and Santana a solid couple for at least a moment, then have Santana start to act out because of her internal struggle (like not being happy and cheating while finding herself), causing their breakup and allowing Matt and Mercedes to let their friendship develop into something more. Would have given Matt a story line because he was likable and an awesome dancer, and would have spared us that story line of Mercedes ignoring all of the gay signs about Kurt and falling for him. Mercedes deserved a solid love interest early on, and we still could have had that classic "The boy is mine" duet between Mercedes and Santana.

You dont know how happy I am that someone else caught on with the Matt, Mike, and Mercedes crew!! Those dance moves were killer and believe me the new directions do lack some good dancers other than Matt and Brittany (also Tina nobody ever talks about how good of a dancer she is) And remember when he didn't come back for the second season cause he "switched schools"? Boy was I mad cause I was hoping to see more of him. He was also the only other black person other than Mercedes. I'm sorry but the New Directions did not have enough diversity. I really wish they kept him cause they could have done like Mike and given him some character development. And he might've had quite a large fan base too just like Mike. But NOOO Ryan Murphy said screw you and chucked him off a bridge. I remember just looking for Matt in every scene just trying to catch a glimpse of him.
