There is a fan translation for this game if you're interested. It's pretty dope from what I remember playing. It's worth a full playthrough to see the manga scenes translated into a not shit thing. Edit: I forgot to mention that I used my ps2 fat with the hard drive mod to play it without emulation issues.

The fan translation is really bad, last time I used it. And the gameplay is basically bland dynasty warrior levels followed by hype boss fights.

I tried getting it to work, I think it was done by Italians but on emulator the cutscenes are black and there's various graphical glitches

The translation isn't very good. They knew how to translate from Japanese to Italian, not so much from Italian to English.

FrostyKlondike As someone who beat the game on its original hardware, I can say that the translation is serviceable. I saw a playthrough that helped me get through the game and help understand what happens in the extra bits.

All the stuff with the kid was written by Miura to pad out the game a bit. It actually is fairly good material since it lets Guts come to terms with the fact that the Casca he has now is not the Casca he knew before.

Berserk musou wasn’t to bad, it was a bit lame at first but when you start getting better versions of Guts it’s a lot more fun. And unlocking the ability to get into the Berserker armour was some of the most fun I’ve had in a musou game.

I played this til completion back in the day, and you are right Matt, the stuff with "Salazar" never happened in the manga. However, what I really liked - and also just headcanoned - is the idea of Guts suffering from PTSD and it's manifesting itself in the fights present, as he gets compainons once more. The "arc" also ends with the old form of Casca. Also also, read the manga again, we are off the boat, and sometimes even get new chapters not years apart :D

And the voice actors from the original anime, at least some of them for sure... along with the creature and character design, the overall sounds and the movements/physics (the way it actually looks and feels like he is struggling with the weight of the sword and every movement needs to be calculated), the fact that almost all the time you need to either run or fight that gives you desperation vibes - the atmosphere is definitely there

i've beaten this with the fan translation and the only good merits are the cutscenes and MOST bosses, the actual levels are a huge drag to get through. theres even a level in a haunted forest where you have to go through the "correct" path or you're warped to the start, it's uhhhh not great. the story and new characters were actually designed by miura too so thats also a plus, but this game is really only for people who like berserk because,,, lord also jesus as soon as i saw those fucking trees i had awful flashbacks, fuck those things

But the fighting is so right feeling and good that it makes up for the awful level design because nothing else cuts it close. This gameplay with Dark souls 1-style level design would be heaven

Berserk warriors isn't bad per se it's just very safe and feels like a aesthetic reskin of the one piece warriors games, I think it's a good buy on sale for vita so you can play in short bursts and not get burned out but I couldn't imagine liking it nearly as much on the main console, but real talk I'd rather instead have the Yakuza team make licenced games than omega force

This game *definitely* drags on for longer than it should during some of its stages, but the boss fights definitely make up for it. Especially when they start chucking them at you left and right towards the latter half of the game. If I had to guess, I imagine they made the stages themselves so long and throw so many enemies at you to *attempt* to capture the feeling of trudging through a seemingly never ending struggle like Guts himself often does.

I got this game back when it came out. Good game but some of the optional challenges are bullshit (like getting a 100 kill streak in Berserker Armor mode) As for when this game is, it's specifically an adaptation of the Millenium Hawk arc.

I checked to see if the castle thing where you fight the trio was in the manga but after the winter section, it's a scene where Casca wanders off and gets rapped by a bunch of dude but she kills them and Guts rapely kisses her to hold her on the ground, then it seems to be the moment where you get reunited with the gang. (Volume 23, 22 is the Zodd battle from the beggining of this game) So unless I missed it entirely (which might be possible) or it was something that was moved, I haven't seen the Castle part in the manga. (Which it kind of felt like it was... but eh)

Interesting you mentioned how you dont even know why you dislike berserk musou. I kind of feel the same way. Like, it is not the worst musou game at all, but I just did not feel that game. And I enjoy musou games. Playing pirate warriors 3 with my best friend is among my favorite gaming memories.

Perhaps it's because as a licensed Musou game, it does a massive disservice to the manga as a whole. It doesn't really adapt any of the famous scenes, and if it does it either just uses clips from the Golden Age films or they just make some very strange choices in general
