Reading the copes for Haiti's complete lack of development in recent days has been quite amusing. Leftists love to blame Haiti's debt to the French, which was paid off long before any Haitians alive today were born. They cant explain why countries like South Korea and Haiti's neighbour, the Dominican Republic, which had similar GDP per capita after the Second World War, experienced tremendous growth while Haiti experienced almost no development in that entire period. Consider some of the numbers regarding aid to Haiti: Since the 1960s, Haiti has received over $20 billion in aid from developed countries. Haiti receives, on average, $1.2 billion a year in foreign aid from other governments. Haiti received $13 billion in aid -- more than its enire GDP at the time -- to help it recover from a 2010 earthquake. The US has already sent Haiti over $200 million this year. Private aid to Haiti from the US is even larger, amounting to over $4.7 billion per year -- about 22 percent of its entire GDP. Haiti is the largest recipient ever of EU humanitarian aid in Latin America and the Caribbean. Cuba has trained Haitian doctors for free and sent its own healthcare workers to assist in Haiti. Venezuela under Chavez forgave Haiti's debt of $300 million, about one third of its external debt at the time. This year, Venezuela accepted just $500 million for the $2.3 billion debt for purchase of oil Haiti had, effectively granting them another $1.8 billion. Leftists also love to blame the US occupation of Haiti between 1915 and 1934, but can't explain how this hindered Haiti after that period either. In fact, the US built much of the lasting infrastructure Haitians still enjoy: The US constructed over 800 miles of roads and introduced automobiles to Haiti, it built port facilities, lighthouses and irrigation canals, 189 bridges, and a National Public Health Service was created with hundreds of rural clinics and hospitals supervised by U.S. Navy doctors. If you talk to leftists about this, they will handwave away all these details, but fixate on a debt $560 million to the French, which was almost entirely non-existent by the mid 19th century. Why can't we be honest and just admit that Haiti's national average IQ -- which by all measures seems to land somewhere between 65-70 -- is a hindrance to it developing like its neighbour the Dominican Republic? Btw, Haitians enslaved the Dominicans for decades and the Dominican economy is far ahead of Haitis.

I’ve noticed that Matt Walsh is really bad at debate. He acts with such bravado when he’s trotting out his prepared points, but then when somebody challenges him in a way that leaves his script, he goes all sheepish and docile. Ben Shapiro is a lot better at thinking on his feet and coming back from the unexpected. Matt only seems to be able to handle carefully staged and edited interactions and rant monologues.

Most of the 'debate bros' on the right are terrible at actually debating. Shapiro, Walsh, Crowder, etc. Any time they come up against some that actually knows what they are talking about and have even a little bit of experience in a debate wipe the floor with them. Every single time. So they make sure that they only advertise and put out heavily edited videos of their debates and usually stick to teenagers as opponents. But not the ones that actually were in debate club or taking college courses in things like philosophy, etc. Just the run of the mill kids that know something is wrong with what is being said, but havent quite found their voice or the words on how to express it.

It is fascinating that Walsh is so completely convinced that his career path is that of a dry, comedy troll. He has a complete absence of charisma, and his understanding of humour is about on the par of what I'd expect from a Martian who has been observing humans for a week. He is far too bitter and resentful to deploy levity, nowhere near empathetic enough to be satirical, and his best facsimile for the humour he cannot master is just to say derogatory or exaggerated things in a completely flat monotone. Dude has a deep voice and glasses, and again, but cannot be emphasised enough, absolutely zero charm.
