Matt, you've become a role model of mine after seeing these videos! You handled this amazingly and were so supportive and loving. Every guy should lead by your example. Kim, HOLY SHIT YOURE TOUGH. That was so killer that you made it through so many songs. Also I can't even imagine what it must have been like going through all that chaos in Mexico. It may seem like a long road to recovery, but time will fly by! I can't wait to see your standing on a crowd of people tweeting your ass off soon!!! 👌🏻

You two are amazing. I've been a fan for years, and that small impersonal connection is enough for me to really get emotionally invested in this situation. Matt, the way you care for Kim and the relationship you two have is heartwarming. Seeing your anguish in some of these shots tore me up. I literally starting tearing up quite a few times in this video. I love you guys so much. Kim, you're gonna fuckin rock this recovery and I will do my best to be front row having a damn good time with you when you are back in action. Take all the time you need, and don't feel bad for doing it, we care about your well being more than our entertainment. Stay strong, you're amazing.

It's great to see you Kim! I wasn't expecting you to be in the video. It was a happy surprise! Everything will be just fine. You get the surgery you need, you'll heal up in no time, then you'll be back to rocking on the drums. Your fans will always be here to support you whether you're playing shows or taking time off.

Much love to you, Kim! You're a warrior, no doubt, and Matt is an incredible dude for his top-notch caretaker skills. I had total hip replacements on both sides when I was in my early 20s (I'm 34 now), so I can definitely relate to the frustration of suddenly feeling like you're elderly when you want to boogie. Keep taking it a day at a time, and know that your fans will always still rock out with you no matter what is going on with your body. #DanceForKim

Bless her heart! I saw Matt and Kim at Bunbury and they have such amazing chemistry together and their energy for their shows is off the charts! I love you guys so much and I am sending love and good vibes toward a speedy recovery. Kim you are AMAZING for trooping through those songs, for smiling and laughing despite it all, and for being such a good sport. Your next show is going to be wild. Maybe these next 9 months or so will be good for lots of songwriting? ;) Best wishes to both of you!

You guys helped me through chemo and beating cancer. Seriously, music therapy. I couldn't be near people for six months and do what I loved to do because they might get me sick. Listening to your records made me feel happy. So thank you. You may feel like those months recovering feel like forever but trust me, they will pass and after, you'll have a whole new appreciation on the things you love to do most. All your fans understand you have to heal first. And trust us, when you get back at it, we will be here.

Thanks for giving a shoutout to organ donors. My Dad recently passed away, and he was an organ donor, I had no idea they could use cadavers for these types of injuries, so it feels good to think that he could have helped someone in a similar situation as Kim, or anyone really. Thanks again.

Matt you have to be the greatest guy ever!! Kim you are one strong SOB! I dislocated my left knee in sixth grade playing basketball. Knee pain is sooo horrible. At least they gave you a full gown. I got one gown and my ass was hanging out trying to use crutches. In 2009 my mom fucked in her foot and she had to go up the stairs like that too lol I hope you feel better! You got this! 9 months is nothing in the grand scheme of everything. Keep slayin'!

Kim i freaking love you! I tore my ACL and Meniscus in Feb 2013 (stupid trampoline accident). Watching this video I remember getting the x-rays done and then having to go in for an MRI. And girl do I remember having the fluid taken out of my knee (that was the worst)! I was in college and had to go back and forth for physical therapy before and after the surgery while continuing my junior year. My boyfirend (like Matt) was there every step of they WAY :) If you stay on track with everything you WILL get back to where you were! On August 3rd, 2013 I went to Lollapalooza in Chicago and saw you guys tear it up! So in 6 months I was able to survive 3 days at lolla (no brace or crutches)! You got this! LOVE YA!

Watching these videos make me feel for you Kim! I broke my femur in a car accident 5 years ago so I know what it feels like to not be able to get around and be in so much pain. I also got sick from the pain meds. Watching you go up the stairs reminded me of having to do the same thing. Hang in there and try to stay patient with the physical therapy. You'll be killing it on stage again before you know it. Sending positive vibes your way!

Kim, I know this has to be difficult for you as such a physically active person to have an injury like this, to feel like right now you have lost a part of who you are. Ive been going through that myself for the past few years dealing with chronic pain and fatigue. I went from being an active runner to barely being able to function. I have cried a lot of tears myself and it's been a long road, but this past year I was able to start running again. I have a long way to go and a lot more to figure out but I know I'll get through this and I know you will get through your injury too. You share such an amazing energy with the world and when you have those down moments know there are a whole lot of people thinking about you and sending so much love and positive energy your way. Both of you inspire so many everyday, and I hope that we inspire you as you go through this. You got this Kim!

Kim! I've had 3 ACL surgeries because the first 2 cadavers failed. I would 100% suggest taking it from your patella tendon! Especially if you plan on remaining extremely active, your knee will thank you. I PROMISE!!

Your body is more willing to embrace/accept a new "ligament" that comes from your own body. My body apparently did not enjoy someone else's body parts(maybe it was a 60 year old mans acl? how do we know? ya know?) I was a D-1 lacrosse player in college and wish with EVERYTHING in me that I would have just gone with my own patella tendon from the beginning! It made me sensitive to kneel down directly on my knee for about a year, but that was it! I'm back in my dancing shoes, getting down with the get down. TRUST. Anyone that gets down like you do needs to take it from their own bod. love you girlie. best of luck!!

Kim -- I had a cadaver ACL replacement 5 years ago and I haven't had any problems with it. The recovery takes a while but I got back to playing soccer about a year after. My advice is to do whatever they ask you to do in physical therapy and do all of the exercises that they give you to do at home. I have no doubt you'll be back and better than ever!
@elizabrowning1027
@elizabrowning1027 5 жыл бұрын
That is true about initial acceptance and your body could hypothetically reject it or be at more risk of tearing with a cadaver graft but after a year the risk of failure/re-tear is statistically the same as with a graft from your own body. And with a cadaver graft you don’t have any side effects from when they take/ harvest your own patella or hamstring. Which graft you choose has a lot to do with previous performance level, current age and future performance goals for activity. Pros and cons of any medical procedure bc humans are unique but best plan is usually to talk with your doctor through it all and get second opinions / do side research.

Kim -- I'm a 28yo giant lady (not tall, just giant) that loves to dance and overall just MOVE, and I've had to slow down after a huge injury too. In 2013 I broke/injured my back and tailbone and it changed everything about how I lived my life. I was crying ALL the time, and it would hit me in waves like you described! All I wanted to do was move in every way I couldn't. Thankfully, there's a happy ending. My wife has been so wonderful with helping me recover over these years and I'm starting to move again how I used to! Your music inspires us a lot and I love to dance to your songs with her, which has helped my body so much. If I can gather the courage I will totally dance for you, because straight up, fuck injuries that slow you down. Matt, take care of her good and dance extra for her while she can't!

I still remember the different direction my leg went in and that pop which I thought was a bone. I hope you get better soon and keep the positivity. Also, PT is very important. definitely don't skip out on that. I did and I had to go back after a year for a knee scope to get scar tissue removed. Again keep the positivity and you are such a fucking bad ass for still playing five songs.

I have gone through 3 knee surgeries 1st one was acl 2nd one was all the ligaments in my knee tore and broke my knee cap in half. They put 12 screws 2 pins and about 1 foot of wire. The 3rd surgery was to take out pins and wire. I made a full recovery. Physical therapy was the worse thing about it. I run and play with my 3 dogs every day with no problems. As strong as you are you will be back to normal in no time.

You're going to be alright! I tore my ACL a year ago/ got surgery and I hated every minute of recovery but honestly it goes by fast bc all you want is to be better. I actually had a grade III tear as well and I got the hamstring autograft from a cadaver bc mine wasn't long enough. You just have to be patient and consistent with your rehab. And now I'm kicking some ass and doing Crossfit! Make Matt do rehabilitation exercises with you bc it's super helpful to have a partner/ more motivating! And a little tip, everyone is different. I know you like to run a lot, and the thing about the patellar tendon graft, is you're more prone to get tendinitis. Hoping for a speedy recovery!!

One way to get up and down stairs with crutches is to hold both crutches under the arm on the "good" leg side. You only really grasp the outside crutch and just squeeze the other one. Hold onto the railing on your "bad" leg side. Using the hand grip of the crutch and holding onto the handrail, lift your "good" leg and plant your foot solidly one step up. I learned this from a physical therapist. Of course if you are with someone they can hold a crutch for you and walk behind you. To go downstairs is the same idea, hold onto the handrail on your "bad " leg side, put crutch on one step down and then balance yourself and step down. This can be an advanced skill and you might not want to try it on meds. When in doubt, just sit down. I listen to your music all the time. :) Take care.

Hey guys! I'm a total fan of you guys. Hope you feel better Kim. I'm currently feeling your pain, I tore my ACL and meniscus and just had surgery yesterday and recovering now. They used donor tissue for my ACL replacement instead of my hamstring. Anyways if you're feeling sick from the pain killers have the doctors prescribed you a prescription to help with the nausea. it'll get better just take your time and you'll get back out soon 👌

Oh man how are you feeling? Did you do PT before the surgery? If you are feeling up to it i would love to hear how you are feeling post surgery but only if you are up to. Rest first holla at me later!! - k

Matt and Kim No PT before surgery, I was able to bend and semi-straighten my leg after the swelling went down. it's been 3 full days since surgery and I'm doing great! was able to finally shower yesterday and get up the stairs lol doc said I should have minimal scarring. but I'm hobbling around on crutches for at least 2 weeks and then I'll go to PT. Everyone reacts differently with surgery and pain killers but I've been staying ahead of the pain and it hasn't been terribly bad. PT just wasn't an option for me before surgery, I had 3 complete ligament tears so no need to strengthen up something was gonna be taken out. I'm sure with you having that option before surgery, you'll be golden afterwards probably back on the stage before I'm back on the fields. thanks for responding back too! made my day! 👌 best of luck! kick PT and surgeries ass! 😎

You two rock, always. Get better Kim, we are all rooting for your super powers to push you through in record time.

I know you're hurting but you're going to be all right! Listen to lots of good music! My soccer-playing daughter ( a big fan of you guys who learned how to play Daylight on her keyboard just to impress me) had a torn patellar tendon repaired in December and she is still in PT but she was putting her full weight on the leg within six weeks. Her biggest issue was the amount of time she had to spend on a CPM machine. It was six hours a day every day.

Kim, I tore my ACL 10 years ago. I went through the PT but no surgery because health insurance reasons and it healed up fine. It sucks and it's painful, but stay positive, the body does wonders and will heal itself. Mine healed back to normal except for some pains during cold weather.

I've been through a lot of rough times, especially being the one caring for sick family members, and I know it's not easy. This is a sudden and unexpected twist in the plot, and it isn't what you wanted I'm sure, but that doesn't mean it won't be a good thing. Times like these show us what's important to us, what we really need. They force us to take a break from "normal", and regroup. It is encouraging to me to see your love for each other. Someone wise once told me, "Take the time to get completely well, it's worth it." I'll be praying for you two!

My mom was 49 when she tore her ACL at the beach and she was in recovery for almost 9 months. It was hell for her and so sad to watch her suffer, everyday I tried so hard to make her smile and she would always find a reason to smile back. A person's state of mind must be strong so their body can heal and Kim has one of the strongest minds and the brightest personalities I've ever seen in one person. I am so inspired by Kim's raw power and strength of mind. I can say with confidence that your fans care more about your well being over anything else. Stay strong you beautiful warrior. :) P.S. Matt is the best boyfriend/band mate in the world and he deserves several awards.
