You know what is the best part about Hellboy? It maybe the most consistent comic book universe ever made. With the Marvel and DC universes, there can be ton of inconsistencies due to many writers doing their own thing, not always aware of what is going on. The Hellboy universe, on the other hand, is all about consintent history. This maybe because Mike Mignola is so involved with the lore and history (as this is his creation) that even other titles like B.P.R.D. feel like they’re all in the same universe even with a different tone. Another great video once again! Fingers crossed the new movie coming out is at least decent. (Though once again, Del Toro should’ve finished his trilogy first!)

Thanks! I agree, there aren’t any dropped story threads or contradictions in the Hellboy saga. It’s insane how many ideas and prophecies come back into play when you least expect it. Very rewarding for longtime readers.

its why when ever an author leaves a 'these are the FACTS' manuscript of a universe or character.... anyone doing material for it ,regardless if they bought the 'ip' of ther surviving kin etc... either should stick to those things or clearly state in the start of all material they make ''inspired by'' or ''x view of''.. but considering you for example have most monte cristo movies ,or even modern things like the 'eragon' one not even mention that they basicly is little more then bastarded ''x persons taking a butchers axe to original script''...its no surprise things only stay consistent aslong the original writer is alive AND popular to have weight to pressure with.

Hellboy is one of those stories that truly manage to stand the test of time, due to the simple fact that the narrative doesn’t need to repeat itself. Hellboy has been a major source of inspiration in my work (which I hope to release soon).

I think "The Midnight Circus" ties this temptation aspect to steering Hellboy's fate by others means like a puppet, and the formation of an individual not asked to be created quite neatly with the analogy to Pinocchio in the story.

Another Hellboy video from Mr. Draper? Yes, thank you. God, idk what came over me that made start reading Hellboy. Probably the new movie. Which now has no chance of living up to the books since I’ve been reading them. But man I wish I made this decision a long time ago. I love how poetic Mignola fleshes out Hellboy’s true nature. These other worldly stakes incomprehensible by a normal man. Yet Hellboy is such down to earth person tied to a daunting destiny. Amazing work as always Matt! Your new video notifications make me stop whatever I’m doing at the moment.

Thanks, man! I started reading Hellboy when the first film came out, so that makes sense. While I really like the Del Toro films, I don’t think any adaptation will ever live up to the comics. It’s just too much for a film series!

It is for me personally why this series feels so personal to me and why I consider it the greatest comic book series ever made. Another great video, thanks man. Because of your "The Corpse" video I bought the entire Hellboy Comics ( 4 Omnibus Books and 2 short stories volumes), and I loved everything about the character, I know your channel doesn't have a lot of views compared to the incredible quality of your videos, but don't stop , because we need the need this level of dedication toward the comic-book industry since mainstream media is doing an awful job at it and not helping bring in newcomers . I just hope in the future we get to see some videos from image comics like : (SAGA, Chew, Monstress, etc), I'm kinda of bored with all the superhero comics nowadays. again don't stop to amaze me man. cheers, PS, I noticed you tend to spoil a lot of the content on your videos so a warning before the video would be great.

Wake the Devil is probably my favorite Hellboy story so far (still reading the rest of the series) though my favorite part is the Epilogue. Rasputin is one of my favorite villains in all of fiction, this larger than life figure that oozes mystery and charisma. I totally understand why his followers are so loyal to him. Yet at the end of Wake the Devil, we actually get to see a human side to him. He looks at how his followers in the arctic turned on each other and on how despite his wish to elevate Ilsa to a higher existence all he ended up doing was using her as a sacrificial goat. He says to Baba Yaga "Can't I have something for myself!" Earlier he mocked Hellboy for trying to refusing his place in the world, yet now he struggles with the idea that despite his best efforts he's just another pawn of Ogru Jahad. Despite the advice of the Baba Yaga, he says he will continue forward, that maybe there is a chance for a man such as him to become a god. It shows he and Hellboy aren't that much different and gives him depth while not losing what made him such an arresting presence. It's stuck with me ever since I first read the comic back in high school.

@marcopivetta77965 жыл бұрын
hellboy fucking owns, i really hope the next movie touches on the deeper themes Mignola tried to play with and not just be a minor existential dilemma like "i'm a demon pretending to be a human, i'm so angsty, oh noes"... It's much more than that.

The only thing that's keeping me from diving headfirst into Hellboy comics is the absolutely fucking horrendous 'comedy' of the first 2 films. It didn't even make me chuckle when I was 14 and 18, and at 29 it's downright unbearable. Can anyone tell me if the comics are like that?
