Hi Matt Great video! But I would like to point out for the single cable hubs.. the anker while a great value doesn’t support PD... in that sense the Aukey would be a better one hub do all solution as it has ethernet and PD support as well!

I like the way you clear your desk! I (a first-time MBP buyer) had been spending *WAY* too much time researching a hub to buy sight-unseen for close to immediate out-of-the-box functions I would need; Ethernet being one. This was hugely helpful. Thank you. Liked and subscribed.

Just stumbled across this clip , wow , nice effort mate . It just goes to show the difference in performance in this stuff that often looks very similar on the outside and what we see in tech markets , and now we see in front of our eyes on your video the junk to good stuff ratio :) , and the truth is this is probably the tip of the iceberg . Well done sir.

Been using some of these adapters and there’s a small but irritating pet peeve I have with most of them that do not angle the adapter at 90º. Being an adapter for portables we use them in constraint spaces very often so it really does matter. I really wish big brands will make this standard or an always available alternate. Oh, thanks for this review. I’m really liking the breath of your considerations and process. Some from the bin, I might take (but only because for a specific purpose). Cheers man!

You've attached the usb-c hub to your MacBook. But I want to attach it to my phone. Can you inform us which usb-c hub can charge my device (phone) simultaneously watching a movie from a memory card in the hub. I know the MacBook has a separate power adapter, but my phone only has one usb-c port for data and power.

I love your enthusiasm! It actually made the video interesting for me, even though I’m not as crazy with transfer speed as you are. I was watching this video, since I’m looking for a USB C hub for my new iPad Air. I just received the Hyperdrive 6in1 hub for iPad Pro and I’ve got to admit, that I think it feels a bit cheap. It would be absolutely awesome if you could make a video about the best hub for tablets and phones with USB C! But otherwise, I think I’m just gonna go with the Baseus Hub that you also mentioned in this video.

Fascinating. I came here from the Technology Connections video about laptop docks which got me thinking how grateful I was to have recently found and purchased a few dongles like these that allow me to connect midi keyboards to my phone and also provide an audio output. It was a crucial piece to find for one of my music projects. I had no Idea until watching this just how big differences in performance could be on these things.

Like a monk consulting his holy texts for references, I have found myself coming back to this video (and the 2017 edition as well) many times in the past couple of years. It's such a treasure trove of information and, as a geek, I have to say that it is such a FUN entertaining video. It's like the USB-C hub Olympics or Hunger Games, I love seeing the weaker ones get eliminated and thrown in the trash every time. I get that there must've been quite a lot of work for you behind the scenes but I really hope we'll get to sink our teeth on a new updated version soon. Thunderbolt 4 might've brought in some interesting new products to test out! In any case, cheers for the quality tech journalism mate!

I actually have a Samsung T5 SSD hooked up to my current USB hub. I've noticed my hub makes a hissing noise when I'm heavily using it and it also stores all of my games and footage so it needs to run very well. I see the one I have on your table on the right. It's the black glossy one with a thick metal lining and the longer cord. So thanks for making this video, I've been looking to get a better hub and it's nearly impossible to compare without having the products.

Some hubs don't work with Macbook Pro for some reason. I bought a Baseus USB C hub and as soon as I plugged it in the WiFi connection dropped. When I unplugged it, the WiFi reconnected. When I was shopping for a replacement I noted a couple of other devices had notes about possible issues connecting with Macbook Pros.

In my search for a new hub for the MacBook Pro M1 I put my "must have" ports and they are: DP or HDMI 4K@60hz, 1 USB-A 5 Gb and 2 USB-c 10Gb it also must have Power delivery and certified for PD 3.0. With the M1 now offering USB4 I find there are only two hubs available and they are 149 CAD, or thereabouts. I want my price to be below 100 CAD. Most hubs promise 4K display at 30Hz, have you ever seen the lag and the stutter? Even just power point presentations suffer from lag when changing slides. So that is no option for me. I had TB3 in my office but there are so many incompatibilities with external monitors that it is a laughing matter. Your review has helped me at least look at the mobile options and the thorough review is much appreciated, I just do not know where to go to find the proper hub for office and maybe, in the future, travel.

You seem to be missing a few popular options, the 2020 Belkin studio hub is one that can handle the power draw and monitor issues for the 16”, would have liked to see it tested. Also Best Buy sells a flush mount option called a hyperdrive that has the same functions as the Chargen and also wasn’t tested.

Some extra info that may influence your answer also, is that I'm currently connecting my Akai MPK midi keyboard, my Focusrite audio interface, and my 2TB HDD as my main connections. What would you suggest I get with these requirements: SD/Micro SD Add type C port for VR set and phone A dual monitor via HDMI set up, I would like to go triple Also, the cabling to my USB's takes up large amounts of ports, so I would like to be to able to get that from the front. Speakers are through aux and untidy. Do you have any recommendations on making the ports hold less space and tidy them up while maintaining performance.

Matt, I just ordered the OWC. I needed several hours to compare the OWC, Plugable and the Caldigit. But I think the OWC is the better one for my iMac. - If only I can make use of that type-c port in my mobo and get a decent port hub that I can put on my desk and easily connect devices to without having to reach to the back of my pc every time... **watches the video and checks the pricing of studio hubs** - Nope .... reaching to the back of my pc seems fine now lol. Great video though, keep up the good work.

Why don’t any of these options have both display port and hdmi?

My team at work had OWC docks from our IT department and we had various issues with monitors and I ended up finding the pluggable which had the right connectors we wanted to simplify the monitor setup (we all run dual display, and don't really do much disk reading) so it worked well. Now I am shopping for a portable one for my new iPad Air, so I need a headphone jack, but for some reason so many of the options just don't include it and include stuff I probably will never need on an ipad. Kinda frustrating. All the ones with double connectors are out, some of the ones with single connector won't fit if you have the keyboard case on so you need a special cable to attach it then.
