We don't add sugar. Just the condensed milk. It adds an extra creaminess and all the sweetness. Check the description box for all of the ingredients and measurements.

Great tip on soaking the cherries. I like cherries in mine but dislike it getting overly pinkish... I'm gonna start soaking & rensing the cherries from now on 🍒 Thanks for the tip!

Thanks to your wonderful grandma! I like it to have the grain at the end and not too mussy. I always add milk too soon and then rice take too long to cook. I will follow these steps of soaking 30 minutes before.....grate tip. Love story about the aunty asking if the sweet rice is ready.......lol!

Oh ok. We find that soaked white rice makes the best sweet rice. But everyone likes it differently.

Hey Matthew, discovered your channel last week looking for dhal puri. My family lived in Guyana for a couple of years in the 70s..still remember tamarind balls and dhal puri in the school tuck shop. And something called churn-milk ....do you know how to make that? I would love to try it again!

What kind of milk? You can use any type of milk. It may change tbe taste a bit, but it will be very similar.

I've heard of adding nutmeg and cinnamon. I don't like cinnamon powder because it makes the sweet rice look dark. Once you boil the cinnamon sticks it tastes the same in my opinion.
