I'm really liking this direction for your channel. For a long time I've had an issue with "filmmaking" KZbinrs, that i've just reviewed random equipment, or shown you ways to be better KZbinrs. There are very few that actually show you useful tips that can be used in filmmaking outside of KZbin, or with equipment you might actually have. Keep it up.

I always use one hard led light as a rimlight and my window as a keylight for my tutorials. Since the computer is in the way I can't place more lights in front unfortunately

Amazing to see how your channel has continued to evolve as you have in your filmmaking journey. Lighting breakdowns are incredibly helpful, especially the tips/tricks to achieve certain looks without needing to buy expensive equipment. Can't wait to see more!

I see SOOOO many KZbinr's who cover "cinematic lighting" of a single subject... it's useful stuff (especially for beginners) but there are SO many good examples already out there. Even once that are "on a budget" or "using only 1 light" or "using only natural light". However, I've yet to see any really great videos out there by similar KZbinrs on how to light TWO (or more) subjects in the same frame and maintain that same degree of "cinematic quality" (be-it on a budget, one light, or whatever). I find lighting a single subject a breeze and I think most people who watch you probably do as well. I'd really love to see you do a multi subject lighting tutorial. Whether it's a "piece to camera" setup, a dialogue scene, or something else... I'd just really love to see it. Anyways, good video Matti.

Thanks for this Matti. I just bought my first lights this week along with some soft boxes. Very helpful to know there are no rules and you can do whatever you want to get the look you want. I'm a complete novice and this video hit right on time.

Sweet video!! When the wall colour's no bueno... a reflective umbrella (43 inch, even up to 72 inch) Can take the place of a wall for bounce. Gives you a bit more flexibility with light placement too. 👍

The warm look is the best. Pretty natural and not so sourcy like the other ones. Also great color contrast.

Thanks, Matti, it's always good to be reminded that not having a huge budget for gear isn't an excuse for not doing "stuff". It's really easy to always say, I would if I had, but this is a good demo that when it comes to lighting you can do things with not much.

The way you use it, isn't really negative fill. It's just flagging the light of. Negative fill is when there is a lot of ambient bounce light from the room you want to get rid of.

Great video! Thanks! One question, how can you avoid getting that horizontal line that keeps running down during the video, just above the tubes (on your right). Is that flickering?

Quick tip: i know white equippement can look cool. But when you're shooting into a window you'll be able to see the reflection of the lamp much clearer. The same with camera's. Get yourself some black gear and safe yourself some reflection trouble ;)

@mattih love this step-by-step tutorial. Another super helpful video, thank you! Curious if you noticed the strobing above the light bars around 8:03 - is that from them or something else in the background? Maybe from shutter speed/angle?

Not sure why every you tuber thinks cinematic lighting is sitting in the dark with a low light on one side of your face, like all films are set in the night time or something. Looks really nice though but I think the Arri camera has alot to do with it.
