🤠 I find a lot of product demonstrators actually have real good keyboard chops but they don't represent a genre well. For example Scott Tibbs should not demonstrate a dance product as he doesn't know which presets to showcase.

Synth builders/engineers are not musicians tho. They don’t hear it the same way we do, they play an int patch and it tells them all the information they need half the time to know the power/quality of the synth 😅

Great vid (as usual). I've got my share of analog mono's and poly's over here, the Prophet 6 is far and away the workhorse, it gets used more than any other by a factor of 3. Partly that's because it's just so insanely versatile, it can credibly impersonate an OBX pads, moog lead, ms20 glitch... plus its own unique timbres. But mostly, it just has this amazing tone that, when you tweak the filters just right, will 'sit' in the mix no matter what else is going on in the arrangement. It's subtly electric, not overly warm but not too hard either, and just the right kind of buzz up top to give it effortless presence. It'd probably be the one synth I'd keep if everything else had to go. Only gripe is the built-in verbs always make it sound cheesy and the wrong kind of dated to my ears. But the phaser is super useful, and the distortion is amazing on bass to level it out and help it cut a bit better. Thanks for the killer demo!
@ScottAdair3 жыл бұрын
nice, i am thinking of getting it to be the butter to go with my P12 knife edge... would be using BigSky for reverb on P12, maybe another great outboard reverb would take the P6 to the next level.
@RayyMusik2 жыл бұрын
What would prevent me from having the P6 as my only synth is 6 voices and the 4-octave keyboard. I‘d be better off with my Rev 2 which can also sound pretty prophetish if you really know it.

I don’t believe Dave Smith has really had the recognition he deserves in comparison to Bob Moog. The release of the new P5 and P10 was exciting for those wanting to snap up a modern recreation of a historical classic but DS went further and retrofitted the vintage knob into the P6 and OB-6. This new feature elevates these synths to a wonderful level. Modern stability with genuine VCO softness. This was a genuine gift back to the consumer blowing Roland and its refusal to re-release classic VCO synths out of the water. Roland believed they knew better than the customer. Dave Smith just knew the customer. Matt just knows how to play. And doesn’t it just sound great?

Sometimes I look back to late 2017 (or was it early 2018) when I sold my 9.5/10 (cosmetically) 10/10 (functionally) Prophet 600 for a mere $1,200.00 USD since I had a lapse in between jobs and needed the money. I purchased it in for only $600.00 USD in 2002 from a Sunnyvale, CA synth collector who took great care of all his gear. I realised it was a great deal at the time. I wish I’d held onto that damn thing though! People make mistakes. 🤷🏼♂️ Not as sorry about the 4/10 (cosmetically) 7/10 (functionally - those damn factory wire key triggers) rev. 2 Prophet 5 I sold for only $300.00 USD as a broke college student back in 1994… of which I paid the same amount for back in 1990. 🤯 I’ve seen worse examples on eBay selling for thousands over the past twenty years.
