I am starting to get curious now. Which blockbusters are recorded with an iPhone? And if a film maker decided to make a cinema movie with the iPhone, was that because it was the best camera available or did some sponsor money from Apple made that possible?
@DogecoinBros2 ай бұрын
Oscar winning director Steven Soderberg filmed "Unsane" on an iphone (starring Claire Foy). Sean Baker filmed "Tangerine" on an iphone (on netflix). That's off the top of my head, i'm sure there are tons more. Also, "Searching for Sugar Man" was the first movie partly shot with an iPhone to win an Oscar. PS just read an article from 2019 about Soderberg begging Apple to improve the dynamic range of the iphone camera...I guess they listened.
@annoholics2 ай бұрын
@@DogecoinBros Just looked it up and "unsane" is a movie with a budget of only 1.5 million and "Tangerine" is a movie that had a budget far less then that with only 100k. 1.5 million is less than a lot of TV shows per episode. Breaking Bad had 3 million budget per episode. Using an iPhone is not a typical way to film cinema movies. Also, when you look up the movie "unsane" on KZbin, most of the video's that you see are about the iPhone used and not about the movie itself, which shows what a rare exception this movie is. I understand that an iPhone 16 Pro is something else then an iPhone 7 but still, it is not the typical camera that blockbusters are filmed on. Don't get me wrong, I am not trying to say that an iPhone is a bad device. I ordered one myself, but even I would not record something serious on an iPhone probably.

At up to 26.4GB per Minute, I don’t really see a reason to record internally. I mean, the storage required to get any reasonable amount of recording time out of it is so great, that the premium you’d have to pay on the iPhone itself, makes this a very inefficient means of recording ProRes. A suitable, external 1TB SSD is cheaper than just the Upgrade from 256 to 512GB.

One thing no one’s talking about is the fact that a camera is generally one of the cheapest line items on a movie. When you factor in lights, talent, crew, locations, post production, etc, renting a Red or Arri isn’t a big deal. Another thing no one’s talking about is the physical limitations of shooting on a phone. This also applies to dslrs and smaller cinema cameras. The handheld look of a big, heavy camera is much more pleasing than the jittery look of a lightweight device that shakes violently every time the operator’s heart beats. The difference with a lightweight cinema camera is that you can easily rig it to be heavier. Not nearly as easy with an iPhone. That brings me to my last point: rigging. It is SUCH a pain in the ass to properly rig an iPhone. It’s great that you can just pick it up and go, but once you add in wireless monitoring, external media, additional on-camera monitor, wireless audio feed, etc, it quickly becomes an unwieldy monster. I like the idea of an iPhone as a crash or dash cam, and it is cool that you can get good enough quality to shoot a whole movie with it. My worry is that producers will see videos like this and think “Oh wow! iPhones are so easy to shoot with” only for the camera crew to suffer (totally not speaking from experience here… 😏)
@londontaxifilms7313Ай бұрын
If you add all that stuff, sure it becomes unwieldy. So, just put the iPhone on a gimbal, and you’re good to go. If you have all the money for that additional stuff, and a camera crew, then bless you; us low budget people need flexibility and convenience.

As with so so many other features that Apple copied over the years, Android phones have had LOG capabilities way way.....WAY.... before apple phones. And many still do.
