Pro-tip: “Mare” in the context of Lunar low-lands is pronounced “Mar-ae.” It’s derived from the Latin word for “sea.” The reason why they were called “Mare” is because they appeared to look like bodies of water due to their (relatively speaking) flat surfaces.

@particle_wave7614 Жыл бұрын
If you go to the extra info tab when selecting the part, it’ll show if the engine has gimbal and how much. Another thing to watch out for is engines that don’t have an alternator. KSP 1 had a few engines with no alternator. So your batteries wouldn’t recharge unless you had solar panels.

As an idea for your next piece of content for this update, how to efficiently maximise science gathering across the tiers. I think on KSP1 you made one where you attempted to see just how much science you could obtain in a single mission also.
@fusola961211 ай бұрын
7:19 I did not know that BUT: this was the one information missing to safely calculate my rocket stages and design them more or less on maximum efficency (i.e. least weight/max. engine thrust) till this point 2nd march 2024 I only have ~180h of gameplay time in KSP and KSP2 (each around 89, smth hours) so... thx Matt for showing me the actual idea of how to calculate the nessecary deltaV :)
@Gunthrek Жыл бұрын
They should make that trip planner with check boxes so the math at the end shows exactly what you need based on your plan.
@rainbowkrampus Жыл бұрын
That would be tough since your plan can vary wildly and there's no way to tell the game ahead of time what you're going to do. Like, the planner assumes powered landing and flight and direct trips for the entire journey. But you can use chutes and gravity maneuvers to drastically lower your Δv requirements. Any number it gave you would necessarily be an estimate anyway since you do still have to fly the thing and there's no telling how well you're going to do that en route. Maybe your liftoff is wobbly due to uneven weight and takes longer to get out of the atmosphere. Maybe something gets damaged upon entering the atmosphere of another celestial body, thus changing your weight and aerodynamics. There are too many variables to account for to ever arrive at an exact number for anything.
@jdotoz Жыл бұрын
And there should be a way to divide the trip between stages. Like even if I have a lot of delta-v in my current stage when it comes time to detach my mun lander, it’s all wasted unless I do a fancy docking sort of vehicle. At that point my descent, ascent, and return all need to be above that stage.

On my first orbital flight, I hadn't yet unlocked a heat shield so my capsule was stuck in orbit permanently until I was able to do a rendezvous and bring Jeb home
@mikocap21 Жыл бұрын
What I've noticed is that you don't really need a heatshield if you are in LKO. If you're coming in straight to the atmosphere from a jool mission or something and going in at 3km/s+ then you'll need one. Deadly re-entry too.
@Wikarian99PL Жыл бұрын
in KSP1 capsule was durable enought to survive return from LKO Is there even in KSP 2 reentry mechanic?
@wyrdean_9649 Жыл бұрын
I've noticed you can do some pretty absurd reentries without a heat shield as long as you bleed speed at every oppurtonity during your orbit
@007mattattack Жыл бұрын
There is now but it's hard. Honestly I like it where it is. You can't re-enter without a heat shield now. Unprotected parts of the rocket will explode. A big improvement to ksp1 where heat shields were basically useless and mainly used for rp or intense interplanetary re-entry

For me the parachute glitch occurs when I'm using multiple chutes. Some of them just don't deploy initially and once that happens nothing works to get them deployed. Quicksave/quickload before staging to the chutes is the answer there too.

My flag disappeared as well when I switched back from the tracking station, but worse was I couldn't control Bill so had to reload. Similar problem when I reloaded a save and the landing gear key wouldn't work (but I actually managed to land) and the jetpack wouldn't work (but thankfully bill can still jump high enough to reach the hatch). Also not sure if it was because my kerbin orbit wasn't on the same plane as the mun but I really struggled planning a maneuver where my mun PE was even remotely close to establish a Mun orbit without running out of fuel. Finally managed by dumb luck (I finally figured out you can lock the Mun PE value) but haven't managed to land with enough deltaV to get back yet.

I don't see why they'd change atmospheric heating on ascent. By the time you need to start thinking about batteries, you should have access to fairings. Maybe the number could be adjusted a little but generally batteries are pretty sensitive to heat. Accounting for that is part of the sim, ya know? eta: the fact that they retain heat seems to be a bug but the general point still stands.

@sirgouki620710 ай бұрын
this is correct. You want to start your burns in KSP2 AT the maneuver node, not at half the burn time. You can do it this way in KSP1 too, but its far easier to match the maneuver doing it the incorrect way (starting the burn at half the burn time from the maneuver node).

Thermals ensitivity on launch really is a bit too finnicky at the moment. You can't have a small docking port on top of your capsule or it will just burn up, always have to cover it up with a nosecone until you unlock the shielded docking port right at the end of Tier 4... And i still hate how pixelated the maneuver planner is. Completely impossible to do precise burns with it. They need to bring back the "Remaining dV" left in the burn, not just the equally terrible "Stop burn in..." I was a bit afraid unlocking Tier 4 would take forever, but after returning from a Dres+Eeloo double whopper mission and completing their respective side missions i came back with 77.000 science and finished basically T 4 and all nodes i left out in the previous tiers at once 😅 Oh btw, fuel lines don't do anything as of now. Might want to not research those until fuel crossfeeding and tank flow priority has been implemented.

I just made it to Minmus with an Apollo style LM/CM, only taken 12 bug-fest reloads to finally get down to the surface then back and docked to the CM... Problem is now I've re-docked I 'apparently' have no fuel to create a manoeuvre node to get home! LM had a 220ish delta left in the tank when I docked and CM has around 600 delta! I've reloaded another 8 times, even replayed the ascent and docking over. Just can't seem to get it to show any juice! There is fuel, I can perform manual burns with either the LM's Terrier or the CM's Poodle! (Yes I only have 1 engine active at a time 😋) Think i'm putting this back in the drawer for another 8 month, when Multi or interstellar updates come out they might have sorted some more of these basic game breaker bugs.
