I have a request or suggestion for a future What Happened: Sierra On-Line. (Sorry, I got ranty on this one, as I grew up on Sierra games.) Sierra used to be one of the biggest PC game publishers. Their market share almost rivaled Microsoft. They were pioneers in game development, pushing for new ways for games to be made (like fully voiced games, CD-Rom, etc). Heck, they were responsible for publishing Half-Life, paving the way for Valve to become the PC market juggernaut it is today. They were filled with controversy, like hiring very controversial figure Daryl Gates for Police Quest 4 or being the makers of the hilarious but controversial Leisure Suit Larry games. From some sources, including Ken Williams himself in his book about Sierra, they very much had "crunch culture" built into their workspace. But then they were screwed over by CUC International and not only quickly lost many employees, but game development went south and they eventually became a shell of their former selves. And a lot of it isn't to blame on them, but CUC because CUC was part of one of the largest accounting fraud cases in history.

It would have been impossible to release the Saturn game in North America in 2000, there was no retail market to sell it into. Sega of America had cut the price of the Saturn so steeply by 1997 that it was losing the company money for every console sold. They accrued so much debt they literally couldn't afford to keep it on shelves, which is why they pulled the plug in North America after the '97 holiday season. Even in '98, most retailers had reduced their Saturn sections to a small corner at the back of the store and were ordering in small numbers, which is why 1998 releases like Panzer Dragoon Saga, Burning Rangers and Magic Knight Rayearth are so rare. By the time you get to two years later in 2000 there is no way anyone in Capcom sales was convincing retail chain buyers to dedicate shelf space to bad Saturn games. And Sega was full steam ahead on making the Dreamcast happen, I'm sure they had no interest in reminding anyone of the Saturn at that point.
