regarding the toughness of dragon hide mentioned at 17:49 - having read the first 2 books religiously as a child, I can confirm that Saphira's hide is supposed to be so tough that as Eragon learns to ride her, her scales cut through his pants and rub raw both of his inner thighs, to the point where book 1 talks about him struggling to walk while healing because the thigh-sized scabs would crack and he would bleed again. Later books note his inner thighs are basically all scar tissue as a result. So yeah, that hit shouldn't have done shit.

@CATS no argument here! I remember adoring book 1 as a wee bairn, and book 2 was still interesting but that was when its flaws got uncomfortable to read. I remember eagerly awaiting book 3, but I dont think we ever even bought it lmao.

Her scales are pretty sharp yes, but Saphira and the other dragons get stabbed and slashed quite a bit in the books. Hell, it's possible to slice an entire foreleg off a dragon.

@@timothymarzelli3874 Now that's true! Colloquially speaking the arrow shot wouldn't have done "nothing" so much as it would have been an injury that, long term, would have been negligible with a single "waise heill". Unless I'm mistaken and the arrow is actually a lance/harpoon here? That I could see having an impact.

@@pundemon9659 if I remember correctly, a regular arrow usually (but not always) leaves a bruise. A harpoon or a Lance would definitely have an impact though

Eragon was circlejerked so much when I was in middle school because the author was 15 when he wrote it. Teachers always talked about it with a tone of "This kid wrote a book and his parents' publishing company released it. What have YOU done?" Needless to say, I laughed when the movie failed. The game being decent is a surprise.
@elfin2865
@elfin2865 4 жыл бұрын
I always felt weirdly offended by the “he was only 15!” thing when these books were popular, because I was about 15 and had ALSO written my own fantasy stories, and while they were absolutely awful, at least I made an effort to make them creative and unique instead of copying the plot of Star Wars and the setting of LotR. :[
@RafPolBon
@RafPolBon 4 жыл бұрын
@@elfin2865 if it makes you feel better. More times than not success is a matter of sheer dumb luck and do whatever thing possible to be seeing. Being good and talented helps a lot, but there's a lot of examples of great works that did financially poor or was ignored and other crappy shits that is known by everyone and got a lot of financial succes (look at Star wars the last jedi. an absolute disaster of a film but got one and half a billion) Also, you said that you did something fresh, new and original. That might have been a problem because a lot of people doesn't like changes or something new. If they have to choose a known crap or a n unknown and new crap, they will ALWAYS choose the former than the latter. Jsut don't think mutch about it, you may try again like "reworking" your old books to see if this time you get some luck.

Which lead me to more books. Then movies. Then video games. A little over a decade latter, and we’re here now

Ah yes, Eragorn, the book serires schools tried pushing on me, plus a bunch of other titles, that got made into movies, then games- it was the style at tthe time. So the film was one of the worst reviewed films in 2006, making little profit in the box office, so no sequels based on the following books I like to call "the red sequel book to that blue dragon book".

Eragon was a really fun read, and, despite what some people say, I actually really enjoyed the sequels...except for the ending. I think the movie did the same shit as The Last Airbender did. Sure, they generally addressed primary plot points, but it was done in a very poor way that essentially guaranteed the impossibility of a sequel. E.g. Eragon receives a wound from the villain that tried to take the egg from Arya at the beginning, and it becomes an actually important detail in the sequel, Eldest, because now he's effectively partly crippled and can't train correctly. This sours some of the Elves' perceptions of him because he's supposed to be their big weapon against the emperor, but now he's busted. If I recall, he gets out of the fight basically totally fine in the movie. Also, Saphira has feathers in the movie for....no apparent reason.

The book series was a pretty shameless rip-off of Star Wars with the setting of Lord of the Rings. They were pretty entertaining reads for a teen but I doubt they'd hold up well if I read them again now. The film was atrocious though and even if it did do well at the box office (it didn't), it would have been hard to make a sequel because it killed off some characters that play a pretty major role in the later books.

I didn't know there was so much hate for this franchise until scrolling through these comments. I knew the movie was bad, but I don't understand all the bashing the books are getting. Granted I read them 8 years ago so maybe I'm not remembering too well, but I thought they were great at the time. And I just read the spinoff/continuation and liked it. I just don't understand all this negativity.

Is this game just the movie in game form or does it tell an original story? Or maybe a combination of movie adaptation and original stuff?

Okay you gotta follow this up with the Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian game on Xbox 360. Its not as "good" as this but its better than it should be.

Well, now I want this game. Closes thing to Scalebound, so why not. Also, from reading the comments, I'll try to get the books too.

My memory of this movie is I think I saw it on TV but can't fully remember if it was the actual movie or just a commercial. The game doesn't look terrible though. Especially for a movie tie in.
