We have a two track that we have pulled countless people out from. Someone actually had signs made saying "your GPS is lying, this road goes nowhere" and "4WD vehicles only." I've learned so much from watching your videos and have a Yankum rope kit in my truck for just these occasions.
@andrewr26503 ай бұрын
Some friends of mine have a similar "road" along side their property and they are constantly pulling people out who were just following their GPS, especially in the winter. The really crazy part about this 2 track is it has a river crossing about a mile in. If you try to cross the river and don't have 35s your feet are getting wet....but both google and apple say its a road.

Rhett has a well defined dry whit and is as funny as heck. He is also completely natural on camera. Kaulin tries too hard to be a grown up, and it comes across as forced and awkward. Hefe had the right sort of comeback to his don't run over the rope comment. Rhett has been the star of the channel for a while now. His big brother is behaving like he has ether got himself his first girlfriend, or has found the baby Jesus.

last spring I was in AZ doing dispersed camping. Rig is a '03 RAM with Cummins, manual and limited slip pulling a 19' camper. Campsite app put me on a really horrible site near a small town, really dirty. The app then had the nearest alternative being a Natl campground. 2 routes, 40 miles and 20 miles. You know which one I took. didn't start out bad, gradually got worse and worse. Couldn't turn around. about 15 miles in I found a small beautiful location just off the trail and stayed 3 days. after I left one time the app said to take a left. There was nothing but desert scrub and rocks. I kept going and did get out. Afterwards, I found the rear stabilizer jacks were bent back 90 degrees and the front ones were bent also. Turns out the "road" was just a trail along a rancher's fence line.

The "PM" registration sticker on a Florida license plate means "permanent registration." Only rental vehicles get that. The rental companies no longer have to locate vehicles and mail registration stickers before the vehicle is driven to another state. Most companies are registering and re-registering their vehicles in Florida for that very reason.

Back in the 70's there was an amazing product called Snatchum Strap. It did exactly what your Yankum Rope does. It was a strap that stored energy. But somewhere along the way, cheap, non-elastic versions were made, plus the creation of load straps. Soon, the Snatchum Strap became unavailable and people just used whatever strap was available. To say that all straps are bad is wrong. The ORIGINAL elastic strap was first. I had one, and so did many other off-roaders and I saw some pretty amazing recoveries with them.

I deliver pizza's and I can assure you that Google maps will take you the wrong way. It once tried to make me use an airport as a road.
@aserta3 ай бұрын
Like every product they have, they used to be good. When G-maps came out, it was very good, it actually worked (at least Europe side), when Google (search engine) came out, it was good, you could search anything and everything, now it's ads, fake links (stuff that sends to other sites) and just bloat answers and so on and so forth you shouldn't even click on links without a proper security protection setup, because you can end up virused really bad. But hey, it's the same for every other platform, not just that. Wiki-p used to be a decent starting point for a search, until the cultists got had of the platform and they're now mowing down or modifying articles left and right, i wouldn't use that site for anything. There's even a demented guy who keeps changing articles written in UK english to US english, which wouldn't be that big of an issue, if it weren't for the fact that some of those articles are UK specific. FB used to be decent, back when it took from MySpace, now it's junk and just a method to expose yourself the wrong way to the wrong people (the stories you read online make you want to delete your browser). No point in even talking about twatter, because you'd need the landing party from D-day to clean that mess up at bayonet. But back on point, i miss Nokia's maps before Micro and extremely Soft made a mess of that acquisition. Those, were REALLY good, like you'd type a spot and it got you where you needed within millimeters. It's so bad these days with these apps, that i unironically looked for a spot that still sells physical maps for a recent road trip i had to do. It's that bad. You'd think that in 2024, we'd have a means to code, write, and execute a proper application with the purpose of road travel, but no... might as well ask a monkey to write a banana peeling g-code for a robot hand. More success there.

@whatsmynameagain6913 ай бұрын
@@AndreasMadsenExactly. You have to mix Google Maps with common sense and good judgment. Know your abilities and limitations as well as your vehicle's abilities and limitations. The lady in the video said that she had a 4WD Expedition, but the one that they rented was a 2WD. Common sense and better judgment would have told her the 2WD rental wouldn't be as capable as her 4WD at home. Responsibility ultimately ends with the driver, not Google Maps.

Oh the goat paths Google Maps will send you along. There's a road between Austria and Switzerland right where the Rhine enters Lake Constance. If you'e coming from Austria and want to cross into Switzerland, Google will route you through a tiny local road that's barely wide enough for one vehicle and has steep dropoffs either side and even an ancient wooden bridge that only one vehicle at a time was allowed to cross. I've lost three mirrors there until I got wise and exited the freeway one exit further, where a very well built-out four-lane road specifically built for the traffic to Switzerland exists. But Google Maps be like "No, this route is 2k shorter, go this way!"
