I ran a trailer business for awhile. Ended up having to do a lone recovery on the side of the freeway in the middle of utah one night. Had to drop the rear axle by myself and tow the trailer 30 miles per hour on an 80 mile per hour freeway. That was nerve wracking. Great job guys!
@Rat-Builder3 жыл бұрын
I worked for the DOT in Nevada. I had a service truck with a boom and air compressor, and a welder. Even though I could do a great number of different repairs on the side of the road, my Boss said that if I could not accomplish the repair in 10 minutes, I was to call for the transport. We had a heavy duty trailer with a winch that could load a fully loaded plow truck with the tires locked. It was a beast. My Boss did not want me working along side of the freeway, and I was happy about that!!! The run of the mill freeway driver has no problem going 80 MPH right next to somebody working on the side of the freeway. Watching the show, "Highway To Hell" on TV will show just how STUPID the general public is when encountering a broke down/stuck vehicle on the side of a freeway that is covered with ice. I think that in some things, the Canadian truck drivers are more dangerous than they are in the US. Maybe not.

I had a leaf break on a dual axle trailer & fixed it on the spot. Step 1: Use a jack to lift the frame enough to get ~2" clearance between the axle tube and the frame member (e.g. 10:37), insert a 2"x4" between them, lower the frame & trap the 2"x4". This yields enough clearance so the tire no longer rubs the fender (Alternative: If the fender is removable, just remove it, in lieu of the 2x4.) Step 2: If one side of the spring remains firmly connected between the axle & frame, technically, no tie down is needed and the trailer can now be towed. But a large bump or strong brake application could cause the axle to lose support against front/rear motion. SO, drive SLOW, watch for big bumps and avoid using trailer brakes as much as possible while en route to a repair shop. As an added preventative measure, the risk of the axle's front/rear motion can be minimized by looping a tie-down (or 2) around the axle tube and securing it the the frame's underside. If the leaf spring is detached at BOTH the front and rear shackles, then 2 tie downs are requisite - one preventing it from sliding rearwards, and another preventing it from sliding forwards.

I had an old Dodge duelie and had a 3,000 pound camper in the bed. I was on a desert road causing along at 50 MPH, (it was a nice gravel road), when I hit a washout. The truck came off the ground 3 times. The washout was 18" deep and 6' across, with straight up sides. When all of the dust settled the camper (Lance) was sitting on one of the wheel wells. It broke 2 tie-downs, but did nothing to the camper. I was impressed. I was able to use the camper jacks to get it relocated in the bed, and used a couple of ratchet straps to replace the broken tie-downs, and continued on. That was definitely one well made camper.

The second he sees it’s a ford raptor he (completely fairly) concludes it was a speed related incident. Stuff like that is the hidden gold of this channel

Those guys made this job so easy looking. Prior to Rudy and Jefe! Not a pleasant experience to say the least

I always look forward to the new videos never know the recoveries that you will have you guys work together so well. I think if the guy steering the camper would of kept the wheels straight he wouldn't of got stuck the second time. Rudy always impresses me with the leader that he is and how he is capable of handling things when need be

I watch these videos to get an idea of how to avoid getting stuck and for ideas on how to get out, but mainly to see the beautiful scenery of Utah's Colorado Plateau. So much fun to see where I've been on geology field trips.
