The prelude to a breakdown, the gross fruit, the breakdown, the moment of reflection, the light breaking through the clouds, the death of the fly, the montage making us feel bad for the fly, the epic soup reveal, Michelle's confession near the end and finally the uplifting closer with Matty plucking a morsel from his bosom and tossing it back his gullet with reckless abandon. Truly a moment to remember.

It was an absolute roller coaster! The whole vibe was thrown from the start with the uncomfortable wardrobe and the persistent fly. It only got worse with the general ambiguity of what the raft was, did, or how long it took to do it. This put the episode into what I would classify as a "valley of despair". This is where Matty runs out of that reciprocal energy he thrives off of. Instead of being on the offensive, Matty finally falls on his back foot and it seems like all is lost. Then the fly, seeing Matty's plight, decided to allow him to end their feud. In another life, the fly might have been some weird, fucked up ratatouille-type deal, but instead they were the sacrifice that brought the energy back just in time to discover the dish is still obviously incredible. This shit needs at least several Oscars.

Wow... Just wow... what an episode. I'm so glad I found this channel and I'm making my way through it. I don't know how much of this was pre-planned, but it totally looks like it was all real and they had to just figure out how to salvage not only the meal and the shoot, but the entire episode through the bench monologue and editing. It had everything and it was amazing. Matty for Prez.

This is editing gold! I am hurting myself laughing at the dramatically slow Britney Spears, Matty quietly seething, and tired Michelle trying to roll out a puff pastry and just get the thing finished! Dear Lord thank you for this show!

Michelle stepping up, rolling out the dough while mid-meltdown Matty was crippled and in need of rescue, was awesome. Almost brought a tear to my eye.

Honestly this was the most beautiful episode yet. Seeing Matty get so upset, then kill his nemesis of the season, then create something so beautiful was just... epic. Thanks for giving this beef boy life

Matty! You are a genuine inspiration -- I bought both of your cookbooks, and love to watch and re-watch all your content -- and the authenticity of episodes like this one is what will forever keep me watching. Can't wait for season 3! (but also no rush, it's important to take break) -- keep being awesome!

This is THE best episode of any cooking show I have ever seen. You have just surpassed Jaque Pepin, Simply Ming, Julia Childs, Ramsey. Full range of human emotion in this one bud.

I gotta say I love Matty's positivity in all his shows. It's a bit of a bummer seeing him get torn down by his crew. Good on him for sticking with it.

you make me laugh while also inspiring me matty. working in the industry sucked the joy i had for cooking right out of me. i stopped experimenting and cooking for myself at home and your videos made me get back in to it.

Don’t listen to them Matty, James Bond has nothing on you. He doesn’t know how to cook even his shity cocktails, he needs someone to make for him.

Happy things in the comments requested…you got it Matty. Your videos are an emotional rollercoaster and I love every second. Your enthusiasm is so contagious and you get me stoked about cooking. Thank you so much for bringing 110% every time and try not to be too hard on yourself. Keep up the amazing work!
