11,000 SUBSCRIBERS!?!!? Guys, that's ridiculous, When I released the rant I was on 2K subs. You guys have seriously had such an amazing effect on my channel and how I imagine my future may change now. I have GOOD news and BAD news; The Good news is that after reading thousands of comments, I have seen what annoys people the most about my series as well as mistakes I have made, on top of that I have had a few requests and new ideas about what I am covering, so I decided to re-script and re-record a lot of Part 3 to integrate a lot of new stuff, I think you guys are going to enjoy how spicy it gets, so look forward to that I guess. The bad news is that thanks to this, I am still in production on it and I MIGHT not be able to release it on the following Friday, it may be delayed, but I will release it the moment it is proofed and finished, it shouldn't take much longer than next Friday. Thanks you all for giving my work a chance, I really appreciate it, if you would like to come and hang out with me for a bit, I am currently streaming over on Twitch - www.twitch.tv/MauLer93 - P.S. You can totally use "Decimated" in the context that I do, please stop commenting about it, I am using the primary definition, which is, "To remove a large portion of" - this is because decimate sounds slick as hell as a word and it fits the definition of slicing a Star destroyed in half etc. < I am totally putting a line about it in part 3 ;-)

You missed a plot hole with the “parents reveal scene” in my opinion. Rian Johnson has said that he decided to make Rey’s parents “nobody” because he believed it was the hardest thing for her to hear, which is wrong. JJ Abrams already told Rey the hardest thing for her to hear. It was established in The Force Awakens that Rey had been on Jakku for most of her life waiting for her parents. - “I know all about waiting... for my parents” she tells BB8 - Then Maz Kanata gets Rey to admit to herself that whoever she’s been waiting for are not coming back. An emotional moment that puts her in tears. So Rey already knows they’re not coming back, but now she’s upset that the people who are not coming back are “nobody”? That doesn’t make sense. And why when pressed by Kylo would she refer to her parents as “nobody”? It was never indicated in these movies that she hoped for her parents to be significant people in the galaxy. *FANS* were hoping that Rey’s parents would explain her abilities, but Rey was just looking for family. I think this is proof that Rian Johnson (maybe unwittingly) was writing to subvert fan expectations and not for character development. He basically reshoots the Maz Kanata scene but inserts Kylo and acts like Rey was expecting her parents to be prominent people. That scene bothered me because it made Rey less interesting, and also because it didn’t make sense that she would be upset that the people who deserted her were “nobody”.

InDaZone The entire movie was constantly bouncing against the 4th wall. Nobody talks like a person. I missed that little detail, that's a good observation. A scene that read similarly to me was Finn's "Rebel Scum" line. He said it as if he was making a direct reference to Star Wars. Like he saw the movies?

I am a little drunk right now but I read your comment and it made a huge amount of sense, holy shit, I regret not putting that in my video, It is a pattern I have missed. The Curl Exactly. That’s why so many scenes felt like a middle finger to fans. Whether Johnson can admit it to himself or not, he was writing with fan theories in his mind. It’s like his explanation for Luke tossing the lightsaber over his shoulder. He claims that was the most “honest reaction” he could think of. How is that an honest reaction? Luke has been alone on the island for who knows how long and a human shows up holding a family heirloom. Instead of asking, where did you get that? who are you? how did you find me? Who sent you? He just throws it over his shoulder and stomps off in a cartoonish way. There’s nothing honest about the reaction. It’s simply to subvert fan expectations.
@mrbubbles6468
@mrbubbles6468 6 жыл бұрын
InDaZone Oh no. Everything RJ did in the movie and how he has responded to people being none to pleased with the outcome says he was very intently going against fans. If he wasn’t, he would not have mocked Kylo for losing to a girl. Women being highly competent in this movie especially and rather ok throughout the rest of the Star Wars Universe. Among other things.

I think the core of the MaRey Sue problem is that she doesn't have to face the consequences of her own personal limitations because either she doesn't have any or the other characters don't recognize them as such. Luke had all sorts of character flaws that he had to overcome. Even an overpowered protagonist can be written well. Magneto is a perfect example. He's an unstoppable idealist, but his machiavellian way turns him into an anti-hero, and eventually he becomes the antagonist. He has to be stopped by his own people, i.e. he's facing the consequences of his character flaws. Rey on the other hand has no character flaws, or when she does it's instead portrayed as righteousness. And since she's so powerful on top of that without having earned it and without any explanation, we don't know why we should be invested in her. If she's already perfect in every way, both externally and internally, why bother? What's the big deal if the worst that happens to her externally is a slight wound on the arm, and the worst that happens to her internally is that she cries a little over her parents (but apparently accepts Kylo's version of the truth with no problems during her little escapade on the Supremacy).

The worst part about Rey is the fact that in the Lego Holiday Special, where she time travels and sees various different moments in Star Wars history, she is a much more complete and developed character. She struggles with the expectation of teaching Finn about the Force and training him as a Jedi, she is terrified of him falling to the Dark Side, and she actually struggles in fighting her opponents, learning lessons along the way and facing her weaknesses. Daisy Ridley actually SHINES and emotes so much better as a fucking Lego brick.

Don't forget Lego Phasma...who in the Lega game adaptation of TFA is a MUCH better character who is supportive of her troops in order to garner their loyalty which makes them even more fanatical in their loyalties to the point where she is genuinely hurt when Finn betrays her. They have a boss fight where they're ARGUING their points of view with Finn trying to convince Phasma to see reason, but to his dismay she's too loyal to the First Order to believe him and he's forced to fight despite not wanting to hurt his mentor and semi-adoptive parent. Why is literally every single Lego PARODY version of the sequel trilogy's character so much better in every way than their film counterparts? It genuinely feels like the Lego parodies are the real script and the movies should be the parodies.

Just finished watching Ahsoka and it's... Star Wars flavored Disney movie. There might as well not be any Lore, at this point, because shit happens for the mood. Ahsoka's main message is just keep trying and it'll all work out, somehow. And every episode does, somehow. And, looking back, that's how Mandalorian worked, too. There would be a problem, and the characters would just be amazing for a bit and it'd work out. Conversations are like birthday cards being read back and forth, almost like placeholder or rough draft dialog. It's fine, I guess, but I don't see myself rewatching any of Disney's Star Wars because I don't recall any real moments. It was all flashy cool thing after another, with very little rhyme or reason for it happening. If there's ever a plot holdup for any reason, somebody has a force power, or a magic rubik's cube solving brain, or can hotwire a droid brain, or talk to whales, or see history through objects, or calmly have the answer to every situation... Nothing real ever stops these characters or makes them really think. It's just, try hard enough and everything works out, cuz magic (plot). I can enjoy that, sure. I watched all the way through these things. Didn't pay for Disney+, thank god. And I cannot recall a single part that got me excited. I laughed out loud when baby Ahsoka says, "This is the clone wars!?!" and Anakin's just like, "Yeah," with the look of pure bruh on his face. And then I called the jedi droid Dr Who-ang and we laughed at that. I wanted Thrawn's actor to top me while casually listing my character flaws. Beyond that, I'm drawing blanks. Oh, the green haired boy being named Jacen kinda made me nostalgic for the EU. Poor Jaina doesn't get to exist in this timeline, ig.

Honestly, this is the only potential redeeming factor on that line. Kylo did a white lie to convince Rey that she had nothing and nobody… except him. Clearly it got into her head, but it was so under-explored it hurt more than it gave a glimmer of hope that there was passion behind this script and this series.

@Jon Hesson It’s hard to have a twist when your story writers don’t have a plan, isn’t it? We know this trilogy was spitballed together, as inconceivable as that notion is for a trilogy of films that is also planned to be a trilogy. How do you plan a trilogy but not create a decisive through line and story arc for it? It’s so much incompetence on Kennedy’s part. As far as I’m concerned, the entire argument is a moot point when even the writers didn’t know what they were doing from one film to the next. There’s no twist without a plan because there’s no story without a plan.

What annoys me about Phasma is the actress they chose for her. Let's talk about Brienne of Tarth from Game of Thrones and how utterly badass she is for second. This is a massive woman. She towers over most of the men in the show. She's physically powerful, extraordinarily tough, has amazing sword skills (even Jamie Lannister who is consider by many to be one of the greatest swordsman who ever lived remarked on her skills) and is one of the most honorable characters in the entire show. She's an example of a strong female character done right. Yes she's big and strong and her physical prowess allows her to fight men but she's not consider attractive by anyone in a show filled with attractive women who can't fight. She's honorable but suffers horribly because of this (and remains honorable despite her suffering). She's both a woman who beats the shit out of one of the most formidable men on the show and a great character with loads of depth. Now compare Brienne to Phasma. Look at what they did with this actress. And this is being applauded as some sort of victory for the depiction of women in film. I didn't know feminists hated women. I didn't know they thought women were useless and hollow creatures who offer nothing to anyone and contribute nothing to any situation they find themselves in. In fact considering that Phasma's two defining traits are that she's a woman and her armor is unique I can only take from this that all I should care about in a woman is her genitals and her appearance. Fuck this movie and anyone who pretends it's some sort of social justice triumph. They killed Star Wars to signal virtue and they couldn't even manage to make the female characters decent.

Another thing Mauler that I felt you hadn't mentioned is how the Jedi and Sith are effectively flipped on their head now. Rey being a Jedi, despite being highly emotional and fighting with hate, gains a lot of power with next to no training and that they just need to follow their heart. Kylo has shitloads of training, and has difficulties giving up his emotional ties, and loses immediately to Rey on their first encounter. It's like a role reversal, being a Sith now requires everything that a Jedi needed in the prequels (giving up attachments, emotions, requiring great amounts of training) and now being a Jedi requires you to follow your heart, fight with hate, and that training is unnecessary (Yoda even says so). What the hell happened?

Jackson Smith Ok, this is just an example. In the EU, Obi Wan as a padawan meets Jexter Dexter for the first time and during their conversation a small child and his sister are being harassed by the security force of the planet. (Planet was corrupt, and blasters were banned unless you were in the military/police force of this planet.) Obi wan intervens, and when the guards point their rifles at him, he cuts through them. People see his blue blade, and start cheering because they thought the Jedi had come to help them. Immediately, the guards step down. Later, Jexter asks Obi wan if he knew the true power of the lightsaber. He responds "The ability to cut through almost everything." Dexter laughs and says "that's what I used to think, But then one day, I saw a young Jedi named Obi Wan Kenobi activate his saber on Ord Sigatt, and that's when I learned it's true power. Cutting through things is merely a lightsaber's technical function, but it's real power is in the eye of the beholder. The sight of a lightsaber can inspire great fear, but it also inspire great hope. It all depends on whether one regards the Jedi as friend or foe. With one quick sweep of a lightsaber, you gave hope to everyone who saw your blade. Except for the bad guys that is. Your lightsaber brought them to their knees and without spilling a drop of blood." So if a child sees that, and is inspired to help people in their time of need just as a Jedi did, I could see that as a pull to the light.

+Jackson Smith The sad thing is Kylo feeling a "pull" to the Light Side could have been an actually interesting subversion. It's always been the Dark Side that's seductive to Force sensitives, so I was on board with seeing a Force user feeling a natural inclination to the Light Side, but really wanting to go with the Dark Side instead. It could raise so many interesting plot and character questions about why Ren would have such seemingly flipped priorities. But wasting potentially good plots and characters is the only thing the sequel trilogy is good at.

I can't believe that Rey's enjoyment of the rain and the trauma of a near death by that same element wasn't used as an opportunity for character development for her and Luke. Like Mauler says, she falls into the water...maybe instead of just swimming to the surface, she's at a very clear risk of drowning because she doesn't know how to swim. Luke initially sees her falling into the water as a point of vague amusement, but it swiftly turns to obvious concern when he realizes that she can't swim and he dives in to rescue her. So right off the bat, it helps establish that Luke's cynicism is only skin deep, and maybe also helps Luke himself realize that he isn't nearly as uncaring to the ongoing plight of the galaxy as he's convinced himself. Rey, on the other hand, has a harrowing and humbling experience that parallels her experience with the Force. Her light dabbling in it before now has been largely successful, but just in the same way that the thrill of feeling rainfall and the terror of nearly drowning comes down to an experience with the same element, she maybe now gets a sense of why the Force isn't something to be treated lightly, and that delving too deep and too quickly can consume her. In that same vein, Luke realizes the importance of actually mentoring Rey and teaching her the ways of the Force because leaving her to her own devices could mean her death or fall to the dark side. But I guess she can just swim, so nevermind.

Rian Johnson has actually “answered” people’s questions about the scene where Holdo uses hyperspace to destroy the ships. This movie proves Johnsons inability to write movies but he has some really significant directing issues. When Kylo kills Snoke the lightsaber flies directly into Rey’s hand and you get a shot that goes to her. So it becomes a moment of victory for the Disney princess instead of a moment to see how Kylo reacts. The moment is about Kylo, is he happy, relieved, satisfied, free? No, Johnson just completely misunderstands his own scene.

I'd disagree. Kylo directs the lightsaber into Rey's hand with the force. The shot that goes to her displays her surprise that Kylo Ren chose to help her after all. It wasn't meant to seem like a moment of victory that belonged to her, and nothing about the editing spoke to me, or anyone else I've heard talk about the scene, that it was meant to be about "her victory". I don't agree that we really needed to see Kylo Ren's reaction to his accomplishment at that very moment. We can already assume he's satisfied to accomplish his goal. There's no reason to assume he's somehow disappointed. At the moment of the scene, Kylo is completely focused on the now, which at that point, instantly becomes having to fight off Snoke's elite guards. The seriousness and focus from his facial expression, as well as the ignition of his own lightsaber, serve to communicate to Rey that now is the time to fight back together. And we see that she recognizes this, since, once noticing these gestures, she turns around immediately to fight alongside Kylo Ren back to back. The moment (after killing Snoke) was a moment of victory for Kylo, but it is clearly ABOUT him saving Rey, and her/him having to then fight together to defeat Snoke's elite guards.

My problem with the lighting was that "if you strike me down, I will become more powerful than you could ever imagine" was a very profound phrase that was systematically ruined by this. Originally the phrase meant something deeper, that it was not literal power, but a oneness and spirituality. In defeat he would ascend to a higher state that you will never reach. It made you question power itself, the squabbles over meaningless things in our life. All tieing together into the force and how luke learns to let go and trusts his feelings. But no. That ACTUALLY just means you can summon tier 9 lighting strikes, because you took the light path which ends in strong end game abilities, even though the early game is weak. This honestly bothers me.

Force storms were a power used by dark side users at times so I think if it had been done correctly, it could go the way you explained it and also open them up to new abilities however they just choose not to use them to interfere as Jedi. Maybe Obi Won had simply been making an empty threat (though it certainly didn't FEEL like one) or maybe Vader had managed to redeem himself by killing the Emperor. "Why? In all 7 episodes of the main line series... ...have we not seen this maneuver?" Consider this: You've never seen this done before. Not only in Star Wars, but in _any other sci-fi movie, book, tv show, etc_ Why? Because this is in fact one of the unspoken meta Rules of Sci-fi. From a writing perspective, the moment you introduce FTL ramming as a concept, you've now introduced a completely OP weapon that cannot be countered that has infinite destructive potential that solves all possible combat scenarios: It's called *the Asteroid with attached FTL drive and drone guidance.* It's the sci-fi equivalent of a nuclear weapon. Every military would just immediately build these things and point them at each others' planets, and then it becomes impossible to write any plausible 'conventional' sci-fi fleet battle. It's not that people have never had this idea before. It's that they considered the universe-building ramifications of the idea and realized it was too unbalancing to include. The reason why the writer for this movie was dumb enough to introduce such a meta-destroying concept is because he's not a sci-fi fan and has no idea of general sci-fi tropes and what can reasonably be done in the medium.
@TransparentLabyrinth
@TransparentLabyrinth 5 жыл бұрын
Not just sci-fi tropes, but lacking basic experience in writing. Has Rian Johnson never written before? Over-the-top powers that break a story to the point of no return is a common trope of amateur writers, especially young ones, who get caught up in the fantasy of the power and forget that the characters still need to be able to exist in the same universe in which said power is possible and that when conflict arises, you need to be able to write about it without said power turning your universe into something that is impossible for any normal human being to relate to. I would know, I've done it myself before. It's why superheroes always have to come with weaknesses, whether it's something physical like Superman and kryptonite, or something psychological like Batman and his (in some variations of his character) hesitation to kill anyone. It's why a character like James Bond, despite being a stunning superspy who can get any woman he wants and take down any international spy villain, is a miserable alcoholic who can never find happiness because even if he finds a woman he loves, she might get murdered by an enemy. It's why Sherlock Holmes is a socially-stunted person who struggles to relate to others as a normal human being. The list is endless. Characters and mechanics without significant weaknesses are both a significant problem in this movie.

i mean they could just mass produce tiny rockets with ftl drives and just fly them straight at enemy ships. problem solved. in fact, this makes the sun beam planet pointless, since its shields could be penetrated by ftl speed. they could just ram a y-wing into the planet (they have ftl drives) and be done with it.
@rault114
@rault114 5 жыл бұрын
Turns out, they tried to rationalize away the mass use in the books or comics (I refuse to double-check which it's in, but I know it's in one of them). Apparently, it's "too expensive" to use the hyperdrive as a weapon. That's complete bullshit, since they can clearly make them small enough and cheaply enough to fit on X- and Y-Wings.
@eggtarts286
@eggtarts286 5 жыл бұрын
Even that rationalization for hyperdrive costs has a simple issue. Wars are as much about logistics as they are about the battle. As expensive as a hyperdrive is, it's not as expensive as a hyperdrive WITH THE SHIP INCLUDED. Even if we didn't purpose-build ships with FTL drives for ramming, it would STILL be a viable tactic in the field, and pilots would do it all the time, because IT STILL COSTS THE ENEMY MORE than it does you. I'll be honest, I'd totally like to check out a sci-fi universe completely built around the creation and ensuing cold (and eventually hot) wars and galactic-political ramifications of asteroids with drone guidance and FTL drives. I mean, if we were in the 1890's we'd probably think the same way about nukes - but nukes are so devastating and scary that we haven't resorted to using them without impunity. I think it could be done well - not in star warts. This franchise is fubar - but in something new.

I have only watched each movie of the sequel trilogy once each: When Force Awakens released I wasn’t yet a teenager and my interest in Star Wars stemmed from vague memories of the prequels and the Clone Wars animated series I grew up with, I had a vague fascination with creative writing from the few exercises that I remembered doing in primary school. By the time Rise of Skywalker came around I had grown an interest in writing, story telling, and film as a critical interest, writing fanfiction as a creative outlet and watching film and story critiques and informative videos constantly to try and better myself as a sort of coping mechanism, to stay light on detail I have dealt with my issues growing up and gone through times of great sadness, distress, and apathy, during which writing was a key form of release that I still hold onto today. The Last Jedi came in the in between period, that awkward phase anyone who developed an interest in storytelling during childhood goes through where you’re reaching a level of maturity to have some notion of what a bad story looks like but are still unaware enough to simply go along with what on surface level makes sense and appeals to the inner child who only wants to be entertained. This is not to say people who don’t go beyond this or any other stage are wrong or don’t know how stories or movies work, like all interests it is a matter of perspective. I become invested in plots and themes, contrivances and plot holes distract me from enjoying an action scene everyone else is contently watching in the same way an over cooked piece of food might might ruin a meal for a professional chef but be perfectly palatable to me, it is not about what is right and wrong, it is about your investment to the craft and desire to understand its intricacies. It’s is for that reason that the Last Jedi is a somewhat significant film to me as I have perhaps learned more from the Last Jedi on how not to write a story than any other film I have ever seen. In a way I’m almost glad it’s such a horrendous abomination as while Force Awakens is a shallow imitation of a better film that played entirely of nostalgia, intrigue and the name ‘Star Wars’ it was largely inoffensive enough to general audiences that it wasn’t as heavily criticised. This abortive, deformed, shambling mess of twisted plots, ruined characters, mindless set pieces, obnoxious preachy messaging that falls apart as immensely childish and empty at the lightest scrutiny that managed to burn among the most famous series of films of the last century to the ground, kneecapped any potential of its successor salvaging any modicum of cohesion or profound storytelling in the new generation of films and tore what once was the largest fan base of any IP asunder brought a fresh wave of criticism to one of the largest fandoms in all of media, teaching and inspiring aspiring writers and anyone with a desire to learn about storytelling through videos like this and creators like you Mauler. It is about the only positive contribution I can think of that this movie made: that it was so terrible and ripe for criticism that it inadvertently taught millions how to write better.

My favorite bit of SWEU knowledge is that someone DID think of Holdo's maneuver but better. They made a ship that was basically a pilotable missile that was also indestructible. A Jedi used it to slice through whole ships (though not at FTL speed). This is a story idea from at least 30 years ago.

It's kind of interesting to see how the prequels have aged remarkably well. Sure there's plenty of wooden acting, clunky dialogue and extremely cheesy parts, but what separates it from the sequels is that it was built with HEART. It had a story to tell and tried to do something different with the formula, even if it failed-sometimes enormously- in parts. The sequels are lazy, badly-crafted retreads of the OT that can't even copy it's good parts correctly and the few nuggets of interest- Snoke's history with the original power trio, Kylo Ren, Rey's mysterious heritage, Finn's life and circumstances to his conscription and development after his defection- are so thoroughly buried in a putrid slurry of shit it's difficult to see them. What an utter waste.

On the subject of Yoda, it makes NO SENSE for him to be the crazy, laughing silly personality he used when Luke first meets him in ESB AS A TEST! Yoda drops the silly act the second Luke realized the cackling green alien was the “great warrior” and Jedi master. You know, a legitimate plot serving subversion (take notes RJ). For the rest of ESB and in ROTJ Yoda never acts like that again. It was meant to be a test for Luke, “the boy has no patience, I cannot teach him, much anger” etc. So why does Yoda act like the crazy silly test-yoda when he appears in TLJ? Oh right it’s just nostalgia baiting because being ‘not the prequels’ is enough for some people to accept it as good.

My exact argument, both TFA and TLJ use and abuse the "nostalgia baiting" rather than being their own stories that are a continuation of the previous sagas. They both latch on the past and at the same time tried to "kill it" with stupid scenes that breaks the fundamentals of the Star Wars lore. At this point the only movie that was good from these new wave of films was Rogue One. I hope they don't screw up the Han Solo movie but it seems that they would anyway. I miss good sci fi films honestly, beteween the abominations of The Last Jedi and Alien Covenant, things aren't very good.

I personally could sit through the Prequels easier than this movie. A cringey line of dialogue here and there but overall it had a sense of DIRECTION! It had good characters and quite a few good scenes. I can't say the same for this current trilogy. Nothing quite pops into mind as something that left an impact (Other than just anger...) except for Han Solo dying honestly. (Luke dying actually made me feel NOTHING! I had a feeling they were leaning to that idea the SECOND he showed up on Crait. But when it happened...Boy I was let down.)

Actors can (don't need to, but can) become _extremely_ attached to their characters. It isn't unusual for actors who actually care about the story they are working on to spend time talking with the director and/or writers about how the character thinks, their personality, their emotions... What makes Rey a Mary Sue is that she effortlessly impresses the OT heroes. She flies the Falcon (and fixes it) better than Han and Chewie. She beats Luke and impresses him with her force power. She connects instantly with Leia and comforts her, even though there was no previous relationship. Mary Sue originally came from fan-fiction where the writer placed a thinly-disguised version of herself into the world and everyone instantly loves her and wants to be her friend. Yes, this is usually because she is perfect, but the dynamic of impressing established characters is the primary and the perfection is the secondary characteristic of a Mary Sue.

I just want to applaud you on creating the most comprehensive and astute video essays I have ever listened to. My friend suggested you and I tend to be incredibly apprehensive towards content like this when recommended by someone as I feel it is typically just an extension of their beliefs ratified by searching for content that affirms their already established bias. I went in extra defensive as the first video he told me to listen to was your unbridled rage against The Snyder Cut, of which I am a HUGE DC fan who was monumentally let down by the Joss Whedon version and then subsequently felt vindicated by the Snyder Cut. I already understood that objectively neither film was good, and had I seen the Snyder Cut alone would have been utterly underwhelmed, but standing atop the ashes of what I [rightfully] felt the DCEU was, I saw redemption personified in said Snyder cut. It was actually not bad-and for me that was enough. But after listening to your arguments for why Joss’ version was the superior film, I learned that I can subjectively disagree with you and hold on to my enjoyment and disdain for the two films respectively, but also objectively understand that you were right on the vast majority of points you made. All of that to say I have now fallen countless hours into your back catalog (the starwars films) and cannot properly express just how refreshing it is to listen to someone not only make intellectually sound points that are propped up with objectivity and reason, but are so sound and succinct that they become resolutely air-tight PLUS are accompanied with a plethora of supportive examples and even thought out solutions. You argue your own points from the position of “devil’s advocate” just to smartly point out the solidity and totality of your defense for points you are making. And I love that you also provide alternatives and solutions for problems instead of just doing what plenty of other “critical thinkers” do in their videos which is bitch and whine whilst giving no answer to their flaccid complaints, or create flaccid points with zero or even contradictory foundations when they are in support of something faulty. I hope you get the opportunity to read this and understand exactly what kind of impact you’ve had on my critical intake of film lately and know that you are a refreshing voice in a sea of screaming seagulls flocking to whatever the latest bloated whale carcass is that washed ashore for the masses to engulf without caring for what sustenance is actually there to glean and instead simply support because bandwagons (and also faux counter-bandwagons) provide them with a lowest-denominator following of morons. One of the most compelling and dark arcs of the Clone Wars involved the 501st taking Planet Umbara. When Anakin is called back to Coruscant, he’s replaced by a Jedi named Pong Krell as their commanding officer. Krell clearly doesn’t like clones, and sends Rex and his men on increasingly more and more dangerous missions (even when more viable strategies present themselves.) throughout the arc, Rex and Fives go on suicide mission after suicide mission, only surviving because of their training and daring ingenuity in a hopeless situation, and while neither is happy, as captain, Rex is trying to keep his men together on the basis that Krell is a decorated commander and war hero. SPOILER ALERT from here on, but when Rex is sent forward, told that the enemy has stolen clone weapons and armor and plans to infiltrate their ranks, the 501st gets into a skirmish, only to discover that they had been killing other clones who had also been told about enemies in disguise... Krell had sent them to kill one another... As it turns out, Pong Krell foresaw the rise of Palpatine and planned to become a Jedi defector, purposely sabotaging his own men... and he admits he was RELYING on the Clones trusting him and blindly following his orders to the end... Rex’s loyalty, which is usually a virtue in other episodes, became the reason why many good clones died... The Last Jedi must have missed the memo...

When if people think something isn't right they should question authority not blindly obey it. And according to Rian the Poe and Holdo scene was supposed to be her flirting with him. No wonder the man's surname is Johnson because he clearly thinks with it.

Ha... imagine it. First Order boarding party fights it's way to Ackbars bridge. As soon as they arrive, he swivels in his chair... "It's a trap!" And self destructs the ship. Eyes would roll but only to hide the tears.

Hell, maybe make someone in the First Order group say that. They burst into the bridge, only to see Ackbar turn to face them...and he's holding a detonator of some sort in his hands. One of them sees it and realizes what Ackbar intends to do, starts to scream "It's a tra-" right as Ackbar triggers the detonator. Then we get a nice exterior shot of the ship exploding, and Ackbar gets a nice sendoff.

Ben Cochrane normally that would detract from the real emotion of the scene but since The Last Jedi does that many times anyway, that would somehow fit

I'd call into question Finn being able to 'hold his own' against Kylo with a lightsaber. If Kylo can move as fast as Jedi, then he should have been able to swing the lightsaber multiple times faster than Finn, and easily best him.

Agreed. Shouldn’t matter that Kylo was injured.

It feels like the idea was that they were planning to make Finn a force user too but then lost the notes of that story arc in the later films gave up on it.

I don't know if this is established anywhere but with things like using the Force to enhance their abilities, like to jump higher, it makes sense that their reflexes are able to be enhanced too. That's why they can deflect and reflect blaster bolts so easily, and lets them fight the way they do. If Kylo was remotely trained, Finn should have been dead in one swing, because Luke with very minimal training was able to deflect shots from the training bot without seeing them.

I always was under the impression that Kylo was toying with him as once Finn gets a hit in, he just ends the fight like its nothing.

@@Boyzby I think the idea in that scene is that Kylo toys with Finn cus once Finn gets a hit in, Kylo finish him off like its nothing. Having said that, Finn is also trained to fight with melee weapons and powerful jedis often fight non jedis who manage to do fine against them in both OT, PT and stuff like clone wars animated series so its not exclusive to the sequels.
