@@NTTofMistery Yeah I meant to say that he knew it wasn't permadeath. Truly, Spidey sensors wouldn't freak out if it wasn't death. About the second part. When I thought about this, when Endgame released, I came to the conclusion that he was 100% sure that when they died they were already in the right course, as everything past that point couldn't be altered by his actions anymore. The only thing he could screw up past that point was potentially not finding everyone or not managing to remember Tony about that one chance thing. (Coming to think about it, it's still pretty easy to fuck everything to the hell lol). So I thought, rather than going mad, he should be relieved when it happened. Actually, I thought he was supposed to be nervous when they were fighting against Thanos before that, as it was a more immediate concern and the slightest mistake would certainly screw everything. I'm 49....and i still remember how I felt while sitting in a theater at the end of Empire Strikes Back. It was a feeling of real loss, a feeling that my heroes aren't always perfect, and that sometimes...the bad guys win....that not all heroes are capable of saving the day. This was the first film since then that I felt that way again. I can't say enough about how awesome this movie is...I've now watched it at least 30 times, and It STILL slaps for me. That scene between Tony and Peter STILL connects, the love between Gamora and Thanos, Gamora and Quill or the despair that Dr Strange feels when he knows the End Game and gives up the stone so Tony can later save the world and put his ego on hold long enough to sacrifice everything to save the universe and bring everyone back, while simultaneously killing himself. @ApexGale2 жыл бұрын
There isn't anything wrong with Fat Thor as a concept, the issue is that it was played as a joke instead of taken seriously. A Thor who has given up after losing everything and even feeling like he was the one person who had the highest chance of success is *good.* It's a genuinely good idea for the way to push him. The issue is that every time he's on screen he's being used as the setup to a punchline. Fat Thor shouldn't be funny, he should be *sad.* It should be heartbreaking whenever he's on screen, trying to stay detached because he feels like he failed everyone. Korg and Meek shouldn't even be gaming in his house. Korg should be more like the friend that actively checks on him to make sure he's at least hasn't hurt himself. It's the same with Professor Hulk - we should have gotten a short scene showing him forcefully merging himself with Hulk. And he should have been a lot more of a serious character, still prone to some degree of rage. Literally the only time we see that anger come out of him is when he chucks a bench into the lake out of anger over Black Widow's death as well as his friends arguing over it. If there was a time to give him more good screentime it was during the last fight.
@maddlarkin2 жыл бұрын
@@ApexGale The problem with fat Thor agreed is fundamentally one of execution, but the premise itself is questionable I'm equally not sure that a reclusive boarder line self harming Thor would of worked either although I understand the premise far more than turning him into a joke. But to me both feel out of character with the guy who walked away from Thanos corpse muttering, 'I went for the head' that's far more a man who has decided mercy is a weakness and gone down a vengeful reckless path. I can see why they didn't, it's very similar to Clints arc but they could of executed it very differently, Thor becoming a militaristic and ruthless king, obsessed with the preservation of his remaining people above all else, after all did Norway willingly accept the Asgardians or did the god of Thunder simply give them no choice. I had less issue with Professor Hulk cop-out though it was, since it swept Hulk hiding in Banner under the rug and just sort of handwaved it, but I can sort of understand it, the handwaving does save a fair bit of time on convincing Hulk to cooperate with the 2nd snap and actually making it work as planned. But doing it all off screen is a bit cheap. My real issue with Hulk is far more Infinity war having him take one beating and hiding in Banner, a personification of rage, hiding... that's really out of character, Hulk becoming more aggressive, less controllable and nearer the surface seems far more in character and would also of provided a better motivation for Banner to merge the two into Professor Hulk as his last option to try and control the monster

This movie, and End Game, prove that Tony is the protagonist of the MCU. Steve is my favorite character, Thor has been transformed from a fairly thin but sometimes neat character to a deep, well thought out character. But all of that pales to Tony and his journey.
@darsure30064 жыл бұрын
Really? Why? Outside of his parents (at an early age) what loss did he have to deal with except his arrogance? Thor did that too, along with losing literally EVERYTHING HE'D EVER LOVED along the way. Thor also grew more (later devolved) than he did. I really don't understand what people mean when they say 'Tony's journey.' What I really think they mean is he went from billionaire playboy genius who wants to protect the world to billionaire married genius who wants to protect the world....yeah wow...what an arc. Outside of the panic attacks (oh jeez what a psychological dive that was) his attitude did not change even remotely between 10 minutes into Iron Man 1 and End Game. He was probably the most static character in the entire first half of the MCU. Sorry but, let's be objective.

Sacrifice for the greater good is a theme of this film. The heroes were unwilling to sacrifice Vision to destroy the stone and in their greed in trying to remove it first failed. Star Lord was unwilling to complete the mission and get the glove off without finding out what happened to Gamorra and failed. Thor was unwilling to make a deathblow so he could gloat at his revenge and failed. Thanos on the other hand was willing to do whatever it takes including kill the only thing he loved and won.

We will have to wait and see how things play out in the next one. No doubt the heroes wanted to do the right thing and that may not have been the right thing. They didn't want to sacrifice and they paid a price for it in the end. Thanos did horrible things, killed a lot of people just to get the stones, and was willing to sacrifice for his goals. But could also say the biggest issue was a lack of unity. The Avengers were scattered. Sure they sort of came together, but only after Tony was off in space. There was a need for everyone who could stand together to do so. But they lacked a unified will. Thanos had that focused will and everyone serving him shared that unified will.

Phil V I agree. I thought the same thing at each of those moments. If they had only been willing to act, knowing they'd save many more lives by sacrificing the one, they could've been victorious. It's the selfish part of love that I didn't like and really revealed their weakness. It's unfortunate but that is what war is. Putting the lives of the many over the few, otherwise everyone dies anyway. The good guys blew it repeatedly in favor of their feelings.

Infinity War was a better Star Wars movie. It does everything right that TLJ had done wrong. It had better worldbuilding, better humour, a threatening and complex villain, actually likeable characters with real stakes and hardship. Hell, I'd argue it even had a better score. Everything about TLJ just felt tired and uninspired. Including John Williams. Infinity War is proof that you can have a movie with incredible hype and expectations and make it amazing. It even subverted expectations correctly lol. TLJ's problem is that it subverts expectations and doesn't follow that up with anything interesting. It just squanders potential.... Kevin Feige knows what he's doing. Kathleen does not.
@scottski026 жыл бұрын
Hilariously, I think Infinity War even did that scene where Rose Tico crashes into Finn and dooms the Resistance to death better. I mean, they're very similar: the other characters are on the verge of defeating the villains (or sufficiently slowing them down in TLJ's case) and then that chance is ruined by another character (Rose and Starlord) acting like a total idiot. The difference is that Rose's reasons were complete nonsense and came out of left field with no sufficient build up or understanding of the relationship between her and Finn. Not to mention she had the gall to act like what she did was in any way a good thing. In contrast, we have two films of building up the relation between Starlord and Gamora, we know how much he cares for her, so when he finds out she's been murdered by Thanos, it makes sense why he would fly into a blind rage even if it dooms their efforts to stop Thanos. And VERY importantly, he does NOT try to justify what he did after the fact.

I liked your previous Unbridled Rage videos because they laid down hard truths about why those film were bad. I love this video because it lays down truth about why Infinity War is an amazing film and an accomplishment. Please make more Unbridled Praise videos so we can recognize and appreciate wonderful films. I would much rather hear your earnest praise for something you love rather than for something you hate. I am by no means saying to stop making Unbridled Rage videos. Those videos are great for learning from mistakes, an analysis of what a film got wrong so its blunders will not be repeated. It is, however, even more important to remember when films do get right so we can take its successes and incorporate them in other form of media or even in our everyday lives. We should be able to recognize and celebrate the tremendous accomplishments of a great film, an experience so many worked for and so many others were moved by. It is the sad truth that both bad and good things will always exist in the world, but I hope we can focus more on the positive to be inspired and then aspire to be something greater.

The film is a true accomplishment. Juggling so many characters while also creating the most developed villain I've seen in a long time. However, I did have some issues with it. Most of them are just personal, though. 1. Drax felt like a joke character. As opposed to a warrior who is sometimes funny on accident 2. Spider-Man didn't seem to benefit much from his new suit. He is easily overpowered by the Guardians 3. The Black Order could've had more development. They each look unique, but have zero personality (aside from one) 4. Every member of the Black Order is now dead. Which means we have less obstacles for our heroes in the sequel 5. It was nice to see Banner on-screen so much, but he never acted intelligent. Especially not for a super-genius
@brianmannion70976 жыл бұрын
Vision was also made into a joke tbh. His Infinity stone beam couldn't even match the black order members sceptor or whatever (I can't remember). I felt like he got impaled like 10 times throughout the film lol

The Vision is way fucking stronger in the comics. Like, Thor levels of strong.
@turbonerdo68386 жыл бұрын
UnderDawg 1. I can understand wanting a serious Drax, but he works so well t comedic relief that having him be serious would be a waste. Thor is the character who uses comedy to hide his pain. We don't need that character arc repeated 2. Spiderman uses his extra arms in plenty of ways. I know since his last suit was so technology based, the Iron Spider is slightly underwhelming, but I still think it was worth it. 3. That's all they needed. They're there for action reasons. One thing I realised from the Crisis on Earth X Arrowverse crossover is that having a couple of superpower villains and a mindless army is the best combination. The army provides fodder and nice action beats, but the side villains provide actual stakes as well. 4. Thanos is enough. The order where cannon fodder for interesting action. Thanos is the villain we can focus on, and he's the best one yet. 5. Fair point, but he didn't really have anywhere he could be intelligent. They really needed him to look dumb in front of Shuri to establish to the audience how Shuri is the smartest person in the MCU, and in action scenes its more effective for him to be yelling at Hulk then trying to do any intelligent action. He doesn't have any hand to hand combat, so him using his intelligence to fight would be unbelievable. Him using the Hulkbuster arm at the end was a good compromise. Soundgarden He needed to be nerfed for there to be any stakes. I do agree a bit more action from him would have been nice, but the films already crammed enough. Priority is key for such a packed film, so while I would have liked to see that, overall it would have hurt the film
@turbonerdo68386 жыл бұрын
"He's LITERALLY the guy who's evilbad because script," He's literally the opposite. He has motivation, purpose, sympathy to others, and only harms or kills when necessary (doesn't kill Quill, doesn't kill Strange, doesn't kill Stark, Doesn't kill Nebula). And the acting b Brolin is off the charts. "has NO development whatsoever" The reason the film works so well, both emotionally and structurally, is because Thanos is given the hero's journey. He has the moral motivators and sees what his society can't. He loses his home and family to the very threat he's trying to fight. The film is all about his journey to complete his mission, to do what is right. He has the "will" to act on what no one else can do, like any other superhero. He has to sacrifice everything dear to him, both Gamora and Maw, in order to achieve his goal. He has a connection with the main antagonist (in his eyes, Tony). And he wins. So yes, Thanos has plenty of devlopment. " and is COMPLETELY blank" Ummm, Brolin gives an amazing performance. 0. Thanos is an alien from the planet Titan. As we see from the reality stone flashback, it's a technologically advanced society that is still plagued with overpopulation, and eventually dies. After Thanos's idea is rejected, he starts conquering planets around the universe and killing half their populations, as he does to Drax's and Gamora's people 1. Thanos first hand witnesses the dangers of over population. Life expands at a rapid rate, faster than it can sustain itself, and Thanos believes that the only way for life to continue is to cull it. "The universe is finite, it's resources are finite. When left unchallenged, life will overextend itself". 2. Hunger, starvation, divide between classes (hence why his genocide is "fair, unprejudiced") 3. Obviously we don't see the trees dying, so Thanos is clearly killing sentient life. 4. Because by killing half of all life, there is less life to consume all the resources of the universe. Therefore, life will last longer 5. "You're quite the fighter" is a response to Gamora fighting the guards. Thanos sees potential in Gamora, and saves her from being executed so she can become "the fiercest woman in the galaxy". In doing so, he grows to love her and care for her as any father. He later describes this abnormality as an irrational tangent from his ultimate purpose "I already failed to complete my destiny once before. I cannot do it again. Not even for you" 6. Does it really matter? "seeing some CGI tears doesn't equal "development" Of course not. It's the emotion behind it. The reason those tears are emotional? Thanos sacrificed all he loved to complete his goal. He gave everything to do the right thing. Like Stark losing Yinsen or his parents, or Cap losing Bucky, or Thor losing basically everyone he's ever loved, or Quill losing Gamora and his mother. Thanos is the hero of his own story, as all the greatest villains are. And though he's just killed a character we love dearly, we still feel for Thanos.

I know I’m late, but think about it like this: Doctor Strange said and did nothing while Peter was losing his cool. For the time being, it’s very obvious that whatever would have happened, had Peter not hit Thanos, it would have been worse for them in the long run, than what did end up happening. But who knows, the next film could completely contradict this. We’ll have to wait and see.
@the1theonlyg2486 жыл бұрын
Spencer Whiteway true that, and Strange must have seen the future up to when Thor impales Thanos in the chest and not the head, so he could have prevented that and used the time stone to go to that moment, and tell Thor to aim for the head while time is frozen, yet he didn’t. Hence why all the failure is part of Strange’s plan.

SSJRadioBluth Right. Maybe Dr. Strange saw all of that coming and Quill was supposed to hit Thanos in the face as part of their one chance. Maybe in the alternative timelines where they successfully pull off Thano's gauntlet, they still fail because Thanos somehow manages to get the gauntlet back. Thanos is a really strong character even without any infinity stones. Think about it, he has the baseline strength to hold an infinity stone in his other hand without getting hurt at all. When a normal mortal does that they get rekt. Basically, I think Dr. Strange planned for all of this to happen as it did.

It is because that absolute scariest villain is someone who actually thinks they are right, thinks they are the good guy. It is one of the reasons why old 90s movies were so great, that while the villains mustache twirling over the top, they were usually presented as wanting something good (like world peace), just with them as the king. Thanos always though of himself as the good guy, so why wouldn't he also have a daughter he loves.

When you realized Thanos could've been defeat if everyone and I mean EVERYONE was together, pretty much Infinity War is mostly Zemo's fault for causing the Avengers to break up at that point.

There's plenty of ways Tony et all could have won that fight. They just weren't allowed to because the hero had to win.

Edit: Sorry for calling the Sanctum Sanctorum, Kamar-Taj, my bad! Hello there! Here it is folks, some of you have been wondering when this was going to be uploaded. Well, I got done with the 9th version this morning and am now happy with it. "An Unbridled Praise" is meant to be a series where I do the opposite of rage at a film. Instead of taking only the negatives and assessing the plot in a biased manner, I am celebrating the film by talking about it's positives in a biased manner, this will give me an outlet for the great and terrible movies of our planet and potentially games down the line. My critique series' will always be where I attempt to be objective in assessing quality but here, i wanted to gush over Marvel and share my knowledge of the content, I wanted to really give them a pat on the back for doing something amazing and hell, it's nice to have a positive video for once right? Please, let me know what you think about this as an idea for future videos on the channel and thank you for watching the video, il see yah next time. o/

MauLer Unfortunately I've missed most Marvel movies so I have no clue what's going on 😂. But I hope others enjoy it! Sounds like an awesome series to do. Glad you and many others liked it. Can't wait for Marvel to dwarf Star Wars numbers post-TLJ. Going to be delicious.

MauLer - I like the idea of an "Unbridled Praise" series, personally. Not only does it protect you from your detractors using the "you just hate everything!" bs excuse but it is also just good for giving us perspective on films you enjoy vs the ones you don't. On a separate topic, do you think you might at some point in the future make a video specifically on the subject of objectivity vs subjectivity in media and/or film? I just feel like it might be a good and interesting video topic where you can provide clarity on your stance while using various examples from films, etc.
