You forget that there have been several earthquake swarms of the same or greater magnitude and length since the last eruption. Only like 1 in 4-10 swarms result in any emission when it comes to volcanoes.

Nice erruption. Better to have one of those flowing shield volcano lava erruptions than the way more explosive ones on a stratovolcano.

Drove up Saddle a couple of hours ago but decided to turn around at the 10 mi. marker above Hilo since everything was so overcast and you couldn't see anything. This was around 3 pm this afternoon. When I stopped to turn around the smell of sulphur was overwhelming.

I walked on the cooled lava of Kilauea back some years ago. The hotspots where gas was steaming out was amazing to see. You could only drive your car to the edge of the cooled lava (of course). But we got to walk along a path beside the flowing lava. That was an experience I will never forget! Mahalo Hawaii!

Thank you for the coverage. Amazing to see. Also nice to see Mauna Loa is still active - but hope all the people on the Big Island will be fine. They often take such a philosophical attitude...but I know the 2018 eruption hit some vulnerable people - people for whom losing their home was devastating to their health and ability to be safe and well. And that was just terrible. Mauna Loa is such an amazing feature of the planet. It is breath taking to think about, let alone see in action. Hotspot vulcanism is easier to spectate, as it is so much less likely to harm people and other living creatures. That strange giant rumbling awake - it is hard not to be stirred by it.

Unless the Mauna Loa eruption stops ,,, The north east side fissures and lava flows pose an imminent threat to Hilo and the shipping harbor there ... And if the lava turns left at saddle road towards Kona the lava flows pose an imminent threat to the Kona side and the shipping harbor at Kawaihai ... The Mayor with a smirky smile on his face said this is the best case scenario that the lava is on the north east side is Hogwash ... The best case scenario would have been just a summit eruption or the South side above ocean view fissures heading to the ocean without taking out the shipping harbors on either side that is likely to happen now ... Unbelievable !

Iceland eruption is (nearly) at sea level. It is only a few mile hike off the road, you have cell service, and a well established trail network. This eruption is on top of a windswept 11,000ft (3,000m+) mountain. Which will cause a fair number of average unhealthy Americans to contract altitude sickness walking too. Plus the whole nearby area is an undeveloped national park to preserve nature. Nothing but rough recently formed volcanic rock without well maintained trails. Cell service is also spotty.

😆🤣😂 I must question how the record Earth rotation speed increase has effected the possibility of Earth Crust Displacement and the effects on deep earthquake activities and volcanic eruptions? I site the recent Tong eruption and deep earthquake activities that spread through the volcanic fields around plate boundaries. If an ice-skater holding their hands away from their body rotates then pulling their hands closer to their bodies, rotation speed increases. Being that many gigatons of ice buildup towards the polar regions of both hemispheres, we note the recent record cold in Antarctica as this region should be going into summer. My supposition is cold reduces ice melt and allows many gigatons of ice buildup at the polar region. A man can run 30 feet a second. The equator speed of travel is over 1,000 miles an hour. Even a millisecond of increase of equator speed is relevant upon segmented continental boundaries that have subduction zones. Many broken plates acting independently with forces of natural laws of physics should exaggerate the slow natural process for minimal Earth Crust Displacement and continental migration. This form of acceleration should be apparent as the TONGA eruption had a cooling effect upon the Southern Hemisphere. As the Southern Hemisphere goes into summer without sufficient ice melt upon Antarctica the Earth rotation speed increase should be notable as the polar regions of the North compounds the effects of influence by the many gigatons of ice buildup. I must assume that the rotation speed will continue to increase as the Northern Hemisphere ice buildup is just now underway. Lastly, what came first, the chicken 🐔or the egg 🥚😳 as, another TONGA sized eruption could be possible as it may relate to Earth rotation speed increase contributing to more Earth crust displacement. 😀

That guy's a fraud. If Dutchsinse was the real deal, then the dude would be running his own company, making millions of dollars from global government consulting and be lecturing around the world as scientist celebrity. Instead, he runs a KZbin channel and sells T-shirts. Please like and subscribe. Lol. You guys got conned.

Thing is no one know WHAT IT WILL DO - loads of guessing and hoping. It could blow explosively in a way never seen before and they can not say it won't. Anyone who stays near that thing is a fool and if it really blows big and they end up dead it will be impossible to care or feel sorry for such idiots who put themselves in danger. If you believe you are safe there because some Gov. official thinks this or that then it is your fault and your fault alone if it blows and kills you. I will have to say you are a fool if you get hurt by this. Get the Hell away from it or be a fool and a possible dead one. People are idiots. No they do not know what this can do. They only think this or that. I trust no Gov. officials with my life ever. I know better.

Mauna Loa is a shield volcano and as such it produces a low viscosity lava because of a lower level of silica relative to other kinds of lava. Basalt is the primary form of lava produced by Hawaiian volcanoes. Basaltic lava flows sometimes 15 -20 kilometers or more depending on the terrain like the one Iceland last year, Geldingadilur. And because it flows so easily it does NOT clog up volcano vents allowing gases to accumulate. That generally happens with more viscous lava such as at Mt St Helens in 1980. So in other words Mauna Loa is not the type of volcano to just explode.
