I was privileged to see Maurice Andre' perform with the Toledo Symphony in 1974. I'm a career Trumpeter and Professor of Trumpet 🎺 because of my Trumpet Professor George Novak at Bowling Green State University, and witnessing Maurice Andre', forever guiding my life with music 🎵! Michael McClary, Professor of Trumpet 🎺, Georgia Perimeter College and GSU ❤😂🎉

So great to watch performing Maurice Andre with his daughter Beatrice. I am a great fan from Maurice Andre when I was a boy from nearly 12 years old and now 66 years. MAURICE ANDRE will always be my favourite genius on trumpet. Thank you Maurice. And thank you Beatrice.

The ability to solo with, and not over power, an oboe (or two), cannot be over stated. This is why Andre remains the gold standard.

It has been at least 40 years since I’ve considered Maurice André as the pinnacle at his craft with the trumpet while I was learning to play. It has taken me almost as long to be able to describe why. This performance exhibits how I’ve finally figured it out in a simple description as follows: it’s because he makes his tone with the trumpet sound as light & bouncy as an oboe. Neither instrument is easy to make that happen, but my chips are on how it is more difficult to produce that light, bouncy technique with the trumpet. I was fortunate enough to see him perform live (once) as a teenager and shall never forget. 👍
@wythetrumpet64193 жыл бұрын
Excellent observation! A lot of that light, bouncy approach is due to the Stomvi Piccolo Trumpet with the "A" pipe! A great deal of these transcriptions were arranged by Jean Thilde for either Trumpet in "C" or "D". Thilde often assigned the trumpet an oboe, recorder or violin part. These parts are much easier to control on the piccolo trumpet as it takes much less air, shifts the partial, and is more efficient. Of course the parts have to be transposed by the trumpet player. Andre' used clef transposition which is much easier than transposing a 3rd or 4th. Today most of these arrangements also include a part for the piccolo trumpet in "A" as well as parts for "C" and "D" trumpet; however those larger horns don't have the finesse, lightness and bounce that the piccolo trumpet in "A" offers. And certainly the incredible artistry of Mr. Andre' takes it to another level. 🎺🎶🎵

@@wythetrumpet6419... speaking of which, Thiebeau's interpretation of Bach's Brandenburg #2 in F major, 3rd movement, is my favorite of all time. An oldie but goodie. After decades of listening to this particular record (stillI have the LP, kept in mint condition, Angel recording), I only found out a few months ago that the trumpet was in A, not B flat!!! And all this time I was comparing his high notes to that of Dizzy's😮
@wythetrumpet64193 жыл бұрын
Maria, actually most piccolo trumpets come with two leadpipes, one in Bb and the other in A. I use the A pipe most of the time on Baroque Literature. The Baroque Period in music was my favorite!
@mariaqberger50763 жыл бұрын
@@wythetrumpet6419 What valuable info on the "lead pipe" exchange... Who knew! All these decades I thought the trumpeter was playing those high notes on a B flat. Dizzy, however, was able to do that!!! But Dizzy, on the other hand, was phenomena and a genius in his own right!

someone noted sometime ago after his passing, he probably is in heaven, ' teaching the angels how to play the trumpet'....I would not contend this view....one of a kind...truly a unique gift to mankind...

A propos Baroque...I designed a T-shirt for my dad on his 90th. I scanned a Bach Partita for the background - rust on black fabric. The caption read,"If it ain't Baroque, Fix it!". Some of you who come from parts of the world outside the US, may not be familiar with a saying here. "If it ain't broke, fix it" ... Grammatically wrong, but it's the only way it works, after all, all you musicians out there know it's about the "meter, rhythm, flow, etc. BTW, played the oboe for years.... David Reichenberg, played under Trevor Pinnick- he was my Maurice André of oboes🎶🎼

No, the Angels already knew how to play the trumpet, they are giving him new pointer and tricks on how to play. (Revelation 8:1, 2) 8 When he opened the seventh seal, there was silence in heaven for about half an hour. 2 And I saw the seven angels who stand before God, and seven trumpets were given to them. (Revelation 8:6) 6 And the seven angels with the seven trumpets prepared to blow them.
