Thanks for taking the time to share, much appreciated! I tend to fill the oil filter with oil beforehand, something my Father (a mechanic) taught me, he felt it was better for engine start…keep the videos coming!

After u fill up with new oil, doesn't the new oil flow to new filter before engine start?
@williamstyles8561
@williamstyles8561 2 жыл бұрын
@@hermanwong9461 not necessarily, when you pour oil into engine its main goal is to get to the oil pump which usually picks up from the bottom of the oil pan…having the filter pre-filled when the car starts guarantees the system has oil through out, as opposed to waiting for the oil pump to push(or pull) with an empty filter…an empty filter will take a moment to soak in and then pass thru back to system, I think limiting that time the filter takes to fill is a plus…some may say it will fill up fast enough on start and that’s ok for them, but I like the logic and ease of just putting oil in filter before installing and letting it absorb into element and topping it off while I have it out. The sideway mounted filters and top loaded filters I just get the element soaked as filling is not possible. Best of luck to all and can’t wait to get my Maverick!

Just to throw a wench in, I saw another video, by a professional mechanic, that said not to fill the filter. His thought is that you are putting unfiltered oil into the engine. I guess an extreme example would be if debris, such as the foil seal of the new oil container got in, it would be pushed into the engine. I've never had a problem though.

@@drewthompson7457 that guy don’t know what is taking about, I don’t make any mistakes when I’m filling my oil filter, there’s no seals or debris and everything is fine , and you better do the same son , and don’t believe everyone here, lots of stupidity going on here .

Dad (who is a lifetime auto mechanic and at 85 still working on classic cars for his car club buddies) never told me to prefill the filter. I've done the oil changes on my 2006 Mustang GT since I bought it (dealer I worked at never did them) and I never refilled the filter. Don't believe it's necessary to do. If you want to, go for it, but not doing it isn't bad either. 👍

I have never owned a hybrid but I would think you would need to check the oil again after the gas engine has engaged and run for a few minutes just to make sure the oil level is good since you didn't prime the new filter? Maybe you did this after filming the video. I also agree with the consensus in the comments on how much to tighten the filter, in my own experience, 3/4 turn by hand per the recommendation on most filter boxes is plenty. It makes it much easier to remove on the next oil change but to each their own I guess. Thanks for the video, now I have an idea what to expect if I ever receive my hybrid!

Nice, really easy change and your camera angles were great. Excellent attention to detail too, giving us the size of the plug/filter #,etc. I'm surprised how dark that oil was already at only 2k! Personally, I wouldn't have mixed oils, but that half quarts not gonna hurt anything. Not sure if you know or not, but your vid was on the ford authority need site, that's how I found it.

Is the catalytic converter shield warped? Apparently, the hybrid version has an issue wit overheating catalytic converter (glowing red hot) when you start the engine in sub zero temp and let it idle to warm up the cabin with max heat and defrost on.. potential fire hazard. The engine will also rev strangely. Fluctuation untill you turn it off..

One master mechanic recommended to do your first oil change at 1.000 miles due to alot of metal shavings as the engine brakes in and every 5.000 miles there after with full synthetic oil and every 3.000 miles with conventional oil .Also fill your oil filter with oil and let it soak in and do it again until the oil is almost at the top this will prolong the life of your engine
