LOL. It used to sell on eBay up in the $70 and $80 dollar range. Now you get it for at least $10.00. It's really really good. Buy the whole CD if you can. The booklet inside has some great pictures of Mavis.

Where did you hear about Mavis about to sell her car for cash? (Just wondering). I know Mavis and I never heard that one. Maybe she kept it from us. At the time Prince sign her, he had seen her in LA doing a show. She wasn't broke. He came backstage and said he wanted to work with her. She wasn't sure if she wanted to do it. she was about to sign with another label. I'm not discrediting you. I'm just wondering if one of the magazines or someone put that out and it wasnt' true. Thanks!

thejukejoint I think this was around the time she tried to get back to singing as a soloist after Pops died. I think this was after she worked with Prince. Also she might have been referring to the early eighties after The Staples was dropped from Warner Bros Records.

(Which is not over) should not be forgotten, discounted, or minimized for some hope or wish of World Unity. As someone once said "Those who forget their past are destined to repeat it". Ask the Jews to forget the Haulocost , and what would they say? Martin Luther King said "A threat to justice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere". Therefore I can identify with and appreciate a person's or people's struggle, but please don't ask me to deny my own so you can feel less guilt or discomfort.

She is singing about her family and with a broader context blacks and the human race. And what you say about victimization and religion is in itself a narrow view. Blacks identified with the story of the Hebrew children and their slavery in the Bible. This encouraged them and showed that it was not a natural or just thing for one man to own another. King Jr. learned the concept of non violence from Ghandi. No man or people should forget their struggle, lest it happens again. The black struggle

Believe it or not -- Mavis didn't "produce" THE VOICE. Prince did! And he wrote this song. Prince salvaged Mavis's career just as she was about to sell her car for cash. By the way, you can still acquire the CD on-line from numerous vendors.

Even the Apostle Paul, who claimed to be "a new man in Christ" prayed and wept for his people( the jews) because they would not believe his message. He did not deny his "Jewishness" because of his spiritual rebirth. Jesus himself wept over Israel for the same reason during his grand entrance into Israel. I bring up these only as an example to you. If other races suffer let it be known and heard. But you are right in one thing, suffering is universal. But it should be ok for all to express that.
