Can an Ego 45cm electric chainsaw cut you a load of firewood and replace a petrol chainsaw?

So can an Ego electric chainsaw cut a load of firewood..and not run out of battery power? I took my new Ego 45cm 18" chainsaw out to the bush and tested it out. Here are the results from this Ego chainsaw review.

That Husky should be easy to start! I spoke to the Melbourne chemist that makes these fuel additives. He stated Diesel Power has a different colour than petrol power but is the same and cheaper. I have used this 28 years in all stored fuel (I do slightly overdose) and fuel stays excellent. A fire fighter pump after standing year has no clogged carbi, and starts. Will try this EGO saw for use in town as the smaller Makita 36V has a small bar + chain. I am totally amazed that the Ego made it through such hard timber with 5amp batteries.... placing order today.👍🤓

Thanks again for all the comments mate... Yeah the Husky probably needs the carby cleaned or maybe the fuel is indeed dirty. Since buying the Ego I just don't bother with ithe petrol chainsaw anymore.. Let me know how you get on with the Ego. I wasn't sponsored by them or anything.. ended up making that video a bit spontaneously at the time when I first got the saw. I have genuinely continued to have a very good run with it.. main thing is making sure I have chains sharpened. Hope it goes well for you! I really must sell the petrol saw.. just don't need it anymore!

I have that saw, and it's the best chain saw I have ever owned. I have sold my 3 petrol chain saws. The council cut down some gum trees just outside my home, so I grabbed the EGO and using one 5 amp battery cut up about 1 ton of wood. To make my batteries last longer, I do not push down on the saw, but let the saw weight do the cut for me. I just hold it in place. Battery life is exceptional using that method. If you get one of these saws, you won't be sorry.

Thanks Sam...I agree it is such a handy product... Reminds me of when I first used a cordless drill.. Hard to go back to power cables / petrol! Good tip on how to use it . Keeping the chain razor sharp certainly important too. Thanks!

I have the same problem has you after I buy the first battery saw, I end up buying 2 more and sale 2 gas saws just keep my old husky for memory. I have the Stihl 161T (a work horse), 220C and MSA300, this one the MSA300 is very very powerful, maybe the 220C with be comparable with one on this video but it stands absolutely no chance against the MSA300. Is difficult for me to judge the batteries time on this video but maybe I can cut has much with sthil 220C using the battery AP300S. The MSA300 works with any AP battery but for full power must have the AP500. I kind feel happy in did with Stihl the big problem is price.

Thanks Gordon.. I can confirm I'm still going well with the Ego.. in fact the 3 batteries really are doing the job.. invariably for my needs I'm filling my trailer each time and not running out of battery.. usually just on the last of the three..probably more my 'batteries' of physical energy run out first and it's time to go home with a trailer of wood! Thanks for the encouragement.

There are so many good things about this review! A) You are wearing chaps and protective gear! I hate watching reviews where they just wear jeans, no hearing protection, and no safety glasses. It sets a bad precedence for unknowing homeowners new to chainsaws. It's still a chainsaw! B) You are actually cutting hard wood, too many people are cutting pine, and that is no test of a saw's capability. C) You had a Husqvarna as backup.😉 I own two H 346 XP, and I am wanting to get an electric saw to mix into the fold for lighter work with less mess and expense, being able to walk in the woods and maintain space without carrying all the messy necessities for a gas saw, and of course the starting it up issues... Thank you for the great review!
@MatthewPolack

Thanks Maggie... Appreciate the kind words! The safety part I am certainly very conscious of! Was actually cutting a load of wood yesterday and a piece flew back and smashed into the goggles.. was mighty glad I was wearing them. Am continuing to love the Ego.. received no endorsement from them or anything. It did a brilliant job.. and got me a load again with the 3 x 5amp batteries. (Might buy a 7.5 sometime but not sure I need it). The big thing is having the chains sharp! Have only 2.. so will get one per battery. I'm actually at the point I don't even need the Husqvarna.. is a nice backup.. but just so convenient with the Ego like a cordless drill! Thanks again for kind words and all the best with decision making!

I've ended up with three and now when I go to get wood I get all the wood I need no problems (my own physical energy batteries are what go first!). And usually still have charge left.. I'd never go back to petrol.. need to sell the old chainsaw that is for sure. Thanks for the comment and tip!

Fur sure electric is going to replace all petrol chainsaws eventually as electric is out performing petrol in alot of fields. Right now its in its infancy with chainsaws but I am definately buying electric instead of petrol. I have been looking at these for the last 6 months and it really is a no brainer for my usage as I am not a professional woodsman or arborist.

I agree . Since releasing this video I've continued to use it for my fire wood collecting runs.. this technology is just so much more convenient than petrol.. quick, clean, efficient and works a treat. I need to sell my petrol saw as I just don't use it anymore. Really my only maintenance now is sharpening the chains and throwing in a bit of chain oil and charging the 3 batteries the night before. Has me thinking electric for all manner of things now! Thanks for the comment!

I use a batt Stihl with 3 batteries. I get about one cord ( 4 ft wide 4 ft tall 8 ft long pile) out of them and have thought about using solar to charge one while cutting with the others. I am sure in your bit of the world that would work even better.

I'm really curious to see what one of these would do with the 10ah battery. I've used the 10ah battery I got with my mower on my 650cfm blower and you can tell it's get a decent amount of extra blowing force compared to a 5ah and it takes a lot longer for power to even start fading away as the battery drains.
