This is a good way for most people to learn mawashi geri (round house kick). I well recall Kasuya Sensei and his kicking skill. He has an amazing ability to round house kick with very little backward movement (off the front & back foot). All his power travels forwards into the target.

When you work on the wall your hand should always reach as high as you can get and you kick with the opposite leg. The same position when kicking over your partner or a mobile obstacles. The wall is a unforgiving training tool when you are teaching the class to turn your toes back and making contact with the ball of the foot.
