Max bruchs concerto for 2 pianist is exquisite. The third slow movement is so expressiveness exquisite. What a pity it is not better known

Really beautiful!!! It is not possible for such a composer to be little known. It is not possible that we have talked above all about the usual greats of all time. Honor to Max Bruch!!!

...what the hell are you smoking bruch's first violin concerto is literally standard repertoire, as is his "kol nidrei" for cello and orchestra

the beginning of the 20th marks the beginning of the pluralism of styles. sacre du printemps, schönberg's piano pieces, jazz in america, romanticism... a fascinating concerto. Thanks for uploading it :)

What a fine and interesting composer Max bruch was. Rather and refreshingly old fashioned for 1912, considering we've just had the entire ouvre of Mahler symphonies by then. But this is an absolute gem. Thanks for the upload.

The grand introduction certainly makes a wonderful commitment to Ab minor. Bruch to me also exposes himself as another Bach lover by the fugal exposition (not merely by fugue - is not the 2nd fugue from the well tempered evocatively hinted?) Romantic gesture and good humour follow. I hear it in B major although for argument sake it’s in Cb. A respectful composer emerges. Welcome dotted rhythmic features. Nothing entirely denoting that it is a double piano work. Ok, that was a surprise- the 1st mvt finished on the dominant with no return to the fugal idea. This work unashamedly seeks a portrait of beauty. No shame. Love extracted from the softer regions surrounding the stones of a man’s heart (simile based on one from Stephen King). Recapitulated 1st theme and a pleasing tonic major sonority heralds the last mvt. Is he unsure where to go here? Dare I sense an influence from Grieg? There seems to be a theme here but I didn’t notice it before… ? Perhaps the texture needed some thinning. A clarinet solo although it gave no new direction. Homogenous last movement. A grand joyous finish. My overall view is that it is a fairly good Romantic concert piece that has the most stimulating writing at the beginning.

What an extraordinary story... Thank you for it, on top of this recording! (What could have come through their heads to change it on and on without performing it, especially as the original version is so good?)

It's just an enharmonic key to g# minor though lol... and plenty of classical piano pieces were written in g# minor, especially Chopin who believed B major was the most ergonomically comfortable key to play in, and as we know, g# minor is just the relative minor to B major. Despite all of this, yes... it wasn't a common key for orchestral music such as concertos though, but it isn't necessarily mind blowing either to choose a-flat minor. As far as the concerto goes, I was pleasantly surprised how fundamentally and traditionally sounding it was. I was expecting atonality and such. Very pleasing though!

Very nice to be able to hear this concert. And an interesting story behind it. I can only hope those fraudulent sisters (who also stole Bruch’s manuscript of his famous first violin concerto) reincarnate as poverty-stricken musicians.
