By deducting where it is from where it isnt the missile clearly knew where it wasn't, and if it adds 0 it can know where it should be, but not where it will be, as the missile in fact has its own desires and will, and gives little to no shits about our desires or will

@@Chrinik the game forgets, and most players don't have the background to understand where simisms diverge from reality. DCS players tend to be pretty smart, but there simply doesn't exist the real experience to counter certain myths. Milsims are the best place to see people who could dismantle and put together the entire cockpit panel layout of an A-10C blindfolded arguing until they're blue in the face that the GAU-8 can't penetrate the top of a T-80 or that helicopters are impossible to lock onto with radar guided missiles or that the BF-109 would disintegrate due to engine knock after 90 seconds at low WEP. It's just the coconut effect.

The missile is coded to only go for 160 seconds. There is your limitation. Other examples: aim120c is 90 seconds. aim9x 55 seconds. r33 is 360 seconds. The normal 54 phoenix before the f14 module was 200 seconds. So heatblur limited it in this module.

*Hughes engineers programmed the AIM-54 for energy management for bomber interception,* and the USN/Grumman Iron Works F-14 had the avionics to direct it. McDonnellDouglas was tooled up to fly an AIM-54 or -66 variant from F-15's assigned to Air Defense Command, U. S. Air Force (although USAF didn't take up the offer). The Russians might conduct extreme-range tests for energy-management profiles using the VKSR/Vympel K-37P-5 service-test version of the R-37R rocket-ramjet AIM recently cleared for service with the Mikojan-Gurevich-31 _Bolshogo Modernizatovenn'yj_ bomber interceptor and Sukhoi-33 and -57 air superiority fighters, fired from the MiG-31BM (as the radar-intercept officer can program the K-37P-5 for the flight profile to be tested).

Indeed missile has it range, but that theoretical value mean absolutely nothing in combat as targets won't be static. The thing we care about is range against moving in/moving out target. In this case 140 nmi value is ok because it allows Tomcat to engage target at 140nmi and then _disengage_ , capisce?

6000kph is Mach 5. That's the speed Phoenix archive on its "cruise" phrase.
@Maverickf22flyer
@Maverickf22flyer 4 жыл бұрын
@@TonymanCS With a max of Mach 5 it should be no more than 5000km/h above 12000m. That's the MAX it can get, not "cruise", it doesn't cruise, it's a glider after the engine has stopped. The Mach number decreases as altitude increases or in other words, for the same true airspeed the Mach increases as the altitude increases.
@skatterpro
@skatterpro 5 жыл бұрын
That is not a 140NM kill! If the target is moving towards you, you must measure the distance travelled by the missile, NOT the distance from which it was shot. The missile, if travelling straight, always has a set distance for your speed and altitude, the range of the missile does not change. You must take a point when the missile is fired, and a point that it hits the target, and draw the distance between those points. This has too many variables.

All kind of range data of missiles are on head-on targets so what's the problem? It's not like any missile gonna outrange Phoenix in the game any way.
@skatterpro
@skatterpro 5 жыл бұрын
@@TonymanCS No, you're missing the point. No, not all 'range data' is for head-on targets. The range of the missile is static, it has NOTHING to do with the target. The missile can only travel a certain distance in a straight line, and this was what was supposedly tested. If you measure head on, you still have to measure the traveled distance, not the engaging distance. Otherwise your missile would have 'infinite range!!!!' if your target is moving towards you at something like mach 15, which simply isn't true. The intersection point simply cannot be anywhere outside of the missile's range. You can't present it as a record this way. Too many variables, and a bad set of datapoints. You're measuring nothing but an arbitrary number of when an AIM-54 is fired this way, and absolutely nothing else. Definitely not a distance. With your way of thinking, the traveled distance of the missile depends on the target, which it does not. At all. Come on, this is elementary math. Your speed, and the speed of the target has nothing to do with the distance, but the intersection point. We're intended to measuring distances, not delta V.
@calvinstrikesagain
@calvinstrikesagain 5 жыл бұрын
@@skatterpro I hate to break it to you, but range at launch is a standard way of characterizing how far a head on interception can be made, because it tells a pilot what he needs to know. The AIM-7M was quoted as having a max interception range against a bomber sized target when launched from an F-15 at Mach 2.5 at 50k feet of 38 NM. Launched from an F-4 at Mach 0.95 @ 25k feet it was 22 NM for the exact same missile. The exact missile flight range is always less, and it's incredibly difficult to compute because it's a maneuvering ballistic course which is not easily calculable by an outside observer. Every single shot is going to vary due to differences in launch conditions, target behavior, temperature aloft (which determines air density), and there isn't some exact single number that your seeking. The only constrainable things that can be reliably measured are launch parameters, target parameters, and distance at launch.
@calvinstrikesagain
@calvinstrikesagain 5 жыл бұрын
@@skatterpro To your last point: delta-V *does* determine distance flown in conjunction with launch altitude and lofted attitude. If you want that perfect distance flown, set it up in DCS in a tail chase launch and record where the missile hits the ground.
