Max Payne 1 nightmare: Creepy as hell!

This level proves that you don't need jump scares or monsters chasing you all the time in order to make something scary. As long as there's is a rich, creepy atmosphere intact that draws you in, there's no need for that. (This scared the shit out of me way back then) DX

Yep its really creepy level. There 2 nightmare levels. But first scares me more then second. Actually walking on blood its really scarres me even now. But theres no monsters. Its an atmosphere and music that scares u a lot

The music doesn't scare me it's actually baddass in the second nightmare there's a sound like in Jack Lupino's inner sanctum which is more scary and the walking in the red trails if you're lost there's gonna be a scream of the pink flamingo from address unknown.

Funny you say that. I'm just now realizing Max Payne 1 and Silent Hill 2 released two months apart the same year (2001). It's awesome if that was the case. The first game was already extremely uncomfortable and unsettling even without these horrifying nightmare sequences (the whole city feels empty, everyone is a murderous scumbag, the addicts mumble incoherently to themselves due to that fucked up drug, the city of New York feels so isolated, just like Silent Hill feels completely isolated from the rest of the world). I love the second game, and the third game to a MUCH lesser extent (it just didn't match up to the first two games, which are tge best of the trilogy IMO, I digress). Yet, Max Payne 1's atmosphere is so fucking raw and cold to me, something not even 2 could nail (it was close, but didn't miss the mark nowhere near as much as 3).

IMO the second nightmare is creepier. Didn't hear that baby scream each of the blood trail's dead end? And when you backtrack on your way to the living room? Getting darker and that pure mindf*** audio...

Check some walkthrough of other tubers for the dead end scream. Nah you don't hear the baby screaming in the living room. It's just when you pass the door threshold to the blood maze and you come back to the living room, you hear a mix of some fooked up sounds of Max's wife, the baby and some weird voices.

There was something about the confusing hall maze, the intensifying endless crying in the background mixed with the music box and the pitch black void with a trail of blood that was so off-putting.
