Hey, those cheap masks are NOT as good as you think. Go to the hardware store and get an N95 mask ($15-20) or better. I research how wildfire smoke affects health, and the biggest mistake people make is thinking that a cheap medical mask will suffice. It doesn’t! Read the box carefully!

Respirators n goggles is always a good shout for fires man. I work at uk festivals n we had a bus engine explode from the heat last summer when I was on shift. All I’ll say is respirators are good but remember you won’t be able to see. It was like that when the car park was on fire and I imagine that has nothing on the LA fires, but tbf I was close and heading towards it at the time.

I don't think a standard respirator does much against smoke. They only filter out particles, not chemicals or toxic fumes.
