to turn the big logs, first put a piece of pipe over the log stops that basically extends the log stop so the log doesn't catch on the stop. Second, wrap a rope around the log several times (three times around works for me). Attach the end of the rope to the fork on your tractor and lift. Log rolls right over. I have a really small tractor and have only had a couple of logs that were too big to roll.

I’ve been watching sawmill videos for quite some time now because I’m very interested in buying a sawmill. After I seen this video, I can honestly say that for sure I’m gonna buy the HM 126 mill. I have tons of oak, Szeider, Maple, and Ash and I can’t wait to start milling lumber like what you just displayed. Thank you for posting the video Too cool you have such a nice tractor too. I gotta get one.

Hey! This is such a nice comment. Than you so much! We love the sawmill. Other than our tractor, it has been the best investment for our farm. We use it regularly. We have built so much with it! We just finished building a 40x60 pole barn and most of the lumber we cut on our sawmill. It saved us thousands. It is so easy to justify buying a sawmill. Since you have a lot of different varieties of logs and trees, you should definitely get one! We regret not buying it sooner.

I put a lifting strap around the log and pass the strap back through itself so that it’s cinches at the bottom. Then I lift the strap with the forks and it rolls. Hard to describe, but that is one of several options for turning the logs if they’re too heavy for a cant hook

@hillbilly9074
@hillbilly9074 Жыл бұрын
On the log dogs you guys should cut them 1-1/2” square tubing at a 45 degree angle. Weld a cap on the tubing and when u roll the log that square cut edge wont dig into the bark. Then once you r squared up u can pull the dogs out and do 180 tuen and u still have a straight edge against your board. Just use the angle side for rolling
@hillbilly9074

Thats how i have my mill set up and it works 10 times easier. Also when i have huge logs (27”) is biggest ive done. I wrap a strap around the log and have the strap loop underneath. Then when u lift with the forks on the tractor it will roll the log. Also works great that way to align the log where u want it for the first cut.

Hello everyone. thank you for the videos been a great help in getting are sawmill together !!! could you help with a question when taking off the first cut, you rotate that cut to the bottom? is it more of a straight and squared accurate cuts? thank you Troy
@CollinsCountry
@CollinsCountry Жыл бұрын
Hi thanks for watching. Sometimes on the bigger heavier logs it’s easier to flip it around 180 degrees to take off more material. The first two cuts being 180 out is good and straight. Now that more material is off it should be a bit lighter to work with to get the straight cut up against the log stops. Seems like if a log does not end up being perfectly square it’s because I had trouble securing the log to the log stop perfectly.

@CollinsCountry
@CollinsCountry 2 жыл бұрын
Yup! We have thought about that also. We have a 100 year old tobacco barn on our farm. It is still standing but we have had to replace the boards on the outside. It is VERY HARD to nail into but we have done it about 10,000 times unfortunately:) This lumber will be hard, but that's what we want for our structure. It will help build a strong pole barn! Say a prayer for our sanity in a year LOL
