Man, it is so wild how far we have come since the days of the huge and heavy maglights we all had in the 90s. Thanks for the overviews.

A while ago I found my 4D Mag again, after two decades with the batteries still inside. To my surprise it switched on just like the last time I used it! 😂 😂 Okay, I have to admit the light output didn't even compare with a small keychain light, partly because of the old batteries. I'm thinking about upgrading it with a led bulb.

@@dr.oetqeryeah I had a cell corrode in my 6D cell Maglight/baton that I had to get out. After getting it out and cleaning the inside it runs like a champ again. It is crazy how the output levels have advanced so much since then!

I picked up an A8 with the uv side lights. it’s very good. The uv light is surprisingly effective and it has a glow in the dark body, which doubles as a way to find your keys in the dark

@@Erin-Thor The A8 is actually the only Rovyvon light in this form factor that doesn't glow in the dark. The A5 and A7 have full glowing bodies and even in the A6 the button and charging port cover glow.

@ - I just bought an A3 gen. 4 and it doesn’t glow in the dark either. LOL! Thanks, I’ll look into the A5, A6 and A7 and see if I can’t live without them. Any interesting features?
@Nostradankus
@Nostradankus 28 күн бұрын
@Erin-Thor Ah right, the A3 doesn't have a clear plastic body so I didn't even think about it! The GITD is the only standout feature for A5, 6 and 7. They all have 2 side light functions unlike the A8's 3, so they're not as nicely equipped but they're a bit cheaper too. It's odd, the same '2 function with GITD or 3 functions without' pattern also applies to the bigger E series lights. I wonder why that is.

Regarding the L2 (NLIGHTD) - 25:11 This is the first time being introduced to an LEP Flashlight. Now retured, but used to service L-1011 aircaft fleet all night at 35 below zero at MSP Mpls Terminal. I was the only one who had the highest output Police Bataan Flashlight made at the time mid eighties. Similar to a 4D cell Mag Flashlight. Before flight engineer boarded, he'd grab me to do final walk about inspection before every flight. Where being able to see 55 feet to top of tail in middle of the night is quite critical. Had we had this class of LEP, details of rivits coming loose would have been ultimate. A lens kit adaptor to dial in average flood beam to this sharp edge detail would be cool. Truly worthy for late night rescue boating, if engine out, drifting down river heading for danger. Out of entire crew, I'm the only one on board with high output flashlight, was able to signal a boater over 1/2 mile down river, to tow us three mles back to port. Fortunately, blown rod of supercharged 350 Chevy at wot didnt breach the hull. Cheers

really like the looks of nlight d.. its essentially the titanium antman in a different body. I carried the antman for a while as a "tactical" light for self defense. Recently replaced it with a cloud defensive mch hc though. the cloud doesn't quite match it in candela but its overall a more useful light. I also carry a smaller light for lower light tasks.

Question about the E30. It looks like theres a pro model with side lights but if im reading correctly it just has one big rechargeable battery instead of rechargeable+triple A back up. I'd really like the sidelights (with a UV emitter) but the dual power source seems like a smarter choice. Does anyone have any recs that tick all those boxes?

The screwdriver light seems like a good idea, but, wouldn't it be likely that you turn on the light in your face when using it in screwdriver mode? Even if it had a side mounted button, I think you'd have that issue. It looks pretty cool, and I like the concept, but, it seems problematic, including the weird U/I. Combo tools always fall short, unfortunately. Plus, most times when using a screwdriver, I need the light to see my work, so having them independent from each other is my preference. Having the light aimed the other direction would be awesome for use as a screwdriver, but, that would probably take some clever engineering to do well.

My coworker has the EDC25 as a work light. I dont care for it. The light feels very floody, it doesnt feel very bright compared to my olight baton 4 at the high setting which is 600ish lumens. But I am also referring to using it in a work setting where you need to see small parts with limited light for about 2-4 hours at a time. Floody lights might as well go lantern.

Really tired of lights lying about output. If it steps down to about a third of output at 10 seconds(!) It doesn't actually produce that quantity of lumens. If ANSI spec is 30 seconds, if it's not putting that turbo output out at 30 seconds it doesn't count.

I like that little Rovyvon A3; I may get one. Right now my keychain light of last resort is an Olight imini2; very small, but on/off is controlled by whether or not it is in its little holder; you can't really hand it to someone else. The A3 will eventually die, but it is cheap enough that I will likely have gotten my money's worth out of it. The E30 looks like a nice light, but way too expensive for what it is. Flat flashlights are nothing special, and pretty much guarantee non-replaceable batteries dooming them to eventually becoming expensive paperweights. The Loop, sadly, is a gimmick. There are better ways to get a spot+area light, especially for that much money; I'll pass. The Nitecore is also way overpriced. One of these days I'll get a LEP, but I don't think it will be this one; I'll go bigger. The A2 is also a way-overpriced gimmick with, as you say, the worst UI ever devised; flashlights from Hell use that one. The screwdriver end needs to be where the illumination is, and fumbling for pieces which will get lost only adds to the frustration. Send this one to a mortal enemy.

i have no interest in flashlights where you are not suppose to replace the battery, i have to assume there are pouch cells in them. These flashlights are build for landfill. Pouch cells can get very nasty if they are at the end of their life, they gas out into the outer layer and look like a cushion. The 'breathing' of a pouch cell is also a normal process in charging and discharging the cell. If the pouch cell hits a sharp corner while 'breathing' you have a Samsung Note 7 fire problem. Getting a a bloated battery out of it's case without destroying the case or the battery (very hot) is very difficult. tl:dr: Non replaceable pouch cells bad, cylindrical cells good. Don't buy! :o)
