Maxoak Bluetti EB150 solar generator review: A better value than a Goal Zero Yeti 1500x or 1000.

I have one of these units and on thing that I did to make it more versatile was this. I got a standard floor lamp and cut the 120 volt plug off of it and installed a 12 volt cigarette lighter plug, and then I order a few 12 volt 6 watt LED standard base light bulbs, I converted the 120 volt light into a 12 volt DC light. That way you can use the Bluetti without turning on the 120 volt inverter. Just use the DC plug, It is great for power outages and last for weeks on one charge.

as a business guy i def took notice of the lil improvement upgrades by Maxoak (or whoever makes these units lol). Its a sign of a good company who is constantly listening to customer feedback / evaluating / improving their products. I have seen customer service complaints tho....

I know the eb150 is older tech ( But still competitive ). For $899 Canadian, it just can't be beat. It's simple, reliable and proven. With what's going on in this crazy world now a days, having one of these around is one less thing to worry about.

mostly. As Todd said about the eb150. Low loads cause the screen to give a inflated watt usage. It's odd but I'll test soon

Surely the inverter size would not matter if a person buys lower wattage appliances for their home in order to save money on their power bills, None of my appliances are above 900w purely because I don't want to give my money to the power companies So the Bluetti is a winner no matter what happens, And most Preppers and those who live off grid would already own low wattage appliances so either way again the Bluetti is a winner.

For smaller appliances it’s hard to beat the cost/capacity of the EB150, especially refurbished but certain refrigerators and most coffee makers and microwaves won’t work with it. Just good to know up front what you need to run

@@todd.parker Cool Yeah, I got a small microwave from amazon that works and a 600w Heater an 800w induction Hob a 900w Jug, a 250w Iron plus my 4x4 fridge and a 250w Boot Dryer and a 700w Cook Pot/pressure cooker, even the my washing machine max's out at around 280w when washing and spinning at the same time and only uses 47w to do a whole wash and spin which is great for long trips. a 700w Cook Pot/pressure cooker, Shop around there is some good gear out there.

@@PrayTellGaming the included charger needs an inverter that can do at least 250watts. The 12 volt socket in cars and trucks in North America are regulated at a max of 150watts. I had to install two direct battery power leads into the cab of my truck, using 6 gauge wire at 10 ft length. From that I can use a 500watt inverter to recharge the Bluetti power bank.

@@todd.parker doesn't work, Bluetti needs slightly higher than 16v to trigger the included mppt circuit for recharging. I found another way I directly wired 6 gauge wire to my battery and hooked up a bigger inverter inside my truck to recharge the Bluetti.

Hi Todd, thank‘s a lot for your deep information due to comparison this two power systems ! One comment from my side: for me it‘s very important to have enough amp-power out of the 12 Volt outputs, so on the Yeti 1000 you can combine the several 12 V outputs to one single PowerPole 40 Amps output, and that‘s is what a HAM operator needs in the field. Wondering, if the announced processor Yeti 1000X with it‘s regulated outputs can also be combined, because it‘s single one PowerPole 12 Volt output has only 15 amps max. This unit would be 1000x better if the power supply charged at 400 watts instead of the measly 200. As far as solar it's fine because you could over panel to 600 watts. But for off grid cloudy weeks charging at a rate that would make a generator a viable solution to charge it back up would be great. I'll be getting the AC 300. My friend has it and it charges to full in 45 min to an hour and it's a much larger , much better system.

I hope you realize it won't power your 700 Watt Microwave or your 900 watt electric heater. It will only power things that require less than 913 watts of input power, not output power.

@@christianarias4850 The inverter for the Jackery 1000 will actually power appliances that require 1000 watts of input power. The Bluetti 1500 inverter will only power appliances that require 913 watts or less. In my mind, the Bluetti 1500 is deceptive advertising because it won't power appliances up to 1500 watts. The Bluetti AC200P will power appliances that require 2000 watts. You want an INVERTER in your power bank that will meet the power requirements of your appliances. Once you know that then look at your choices however I would suggest you confine your choices to major manufacturers like Jackery or Bluetti.

Even though I like Bluetti over goal zero any day, those interested can increase their charge input on the goal zero very cheaply with a lenovo AC adapter model ADLX90NLC3A which will add another 90 W on top of the 60W from the goal zero input.

Yep, I do like that you can plug all kinds of things in at once with Goal Zero units to increase charging power. I have 4x wall chargers going into mine because when I did it, the fast charger hadn’t been released

for EB150 is it important to follow the cycle - charge to 100% and full discharge? or charging to 100% after every little use (10%-20%) is normal mode and harmless for the battery?

I know! I’m still a big fan of Goal Zero but I need to look at the cold, hard facts. Their inverters are unbeatable imo, but if you don’t need extreme AC power, you’re paying a premium. I hope they come out with newer versions of the Yeti with LiFePO4 batteries, chaining, and improved wall charger and MPPT to keep up.

I ended up picking up the EB240 and after trying to charger it with my GZ car charger, I was only getting 45w of input (even on the 10a setting) coming off off my SOK 100ah battery.

Great Vid, Ive been researching between the EB150 @$899 and the Ecoflow Delta 1300 @$1199 (just went up $100). The EB150 has 2500 recharge life cycles and 500w solar charge capacity; which the Delta 1300 has 800 recharge life cycles (bothers me so much) but has the Xcharge that will charge to full in 1.5hrs AC, 400 solar charge capacity but has a 12v charger; also has better inverter, DISPLAY and is smaller, lighter weight. Either one of these would be for my SHTF (some camping) to run a camping fridge, low w lights, ham communication, some electrics etc. Your info between the two (or any other you recommend within $1000) would be help in my purchase, Thx.

Good question. I see the EB1500 as a budget unit because the inverter is pretty small for the battery size, you can’t charge it in your car, and the display is very weak but it’s pretty bulletproof, efficient and a very good value. Both units use NCM chemistry so I’m not so sure I believe the cycle counts are quite that different. Overall I like Ecoflow units but keep in mind that the regular Delta 1300 is kind of outdated compared to pretty much everything else they sell so it doesn’t have Wi-Fi or app control, it’s quite inefficient so you only get about 75% of capacity, it uses their oldest battery tech (500 vs 800 cycles). The Delta Mini is probably better in most regards - they need to update the 1300 or drop it. If you’re running DC appliances and smaller AC loads, the EB150 is a great value but basic. If you need something more robust on features and AC power, look at the Ecoflow Delta Mini or Max (this unit is great). You can get good prices at Costco or refurbished units on eBay from EF.

14:59 - no it's not. Sure it will keep Watts but check the output voltage - you will be surprised how it works. Voltages are going down to keep Watts so plugged equipment is working but way below full potential.

I haven’t checked the voltage on the Yeti when it’s putting out max output but the inverter is much stronger than the Bluetti. If it’s dropping voltage like Ecoflows xboost, it means it’s cranking up the amps.

The thing is, that in Europe, you don't have many other options then Goal Zero. I had Yeti 400, now I have Yeti 1400 lithium - and they are expensive, they have terrible life but not much to choose from.

How can you tell if the bluetti is just exaggerating the kill a watt reading rather than actually drawing the additional because of inverter usage for just running the inverter. How can you determine that?

It’s a bit hard to tell because the output can be measured in a few places internally. I use the kill a watt to tell me accurately what is coming out at the output side but the screen may be reporting the output slightly differently so I use those as a rough estimate

Good question. I haven’t tested the Jackery but based on specs, I’d go with the Bluetti because of the 50% larger battery and better USB-C output. Jackery seems solid and can handle 2000w peak AC so that’s the main advantage but I don’t think it’s worth the smaller battery with lower cycle life. I’d probably go with the Ecoflow Pro with extra battery if AC peak power wasn’t my top priority.

I think that’s pushing it. The EB150 doesn’t have xboost but I’ve found it’s only good for 20-40% over the limit, not 2-3x as they advertise

The Ecoflow trips at 1000w so I think the Bluetti could run it since it has a slightly stronger inverter. For both, this is right on the edge of what it can handle though so I wouldn't do it regularly.

The car charger cords didn’t fit because GZ cables have an extra ring to make them snap together to be waterproof. You could trim those down to work, I think

I did find a few improvements from when Will and Hobotech reviewed this - they upgraded the wall charger and regulated DC voltage which were limitations they mentioned. Guess they did some firmware updates and swapped in a better wall charger.

Just keep in mind that a lead acid battery can only be discharged to 50% before it’s damaged so a 100ah battery is only giving you 50ah while a lithium ion or LFP battery can deliver all 100ah and will last much longer so if you can save up and buy a better battery, you will really come out ahead. They are much cheaper and lighter in the long term when you factor in lifespan and usable capacity.

It was $360 but I don't understand lithium batteries and thought I made a mistake in buying it so I sent it back. Will Prouse did a review on it so I guess I got talked into it. They took the battery back and were very understanding with no questions asked, I have nothing buy praise for that company , I think it was Chinus.

I'm just testing and reviewing the same unit here in Australia, did you open the unit and have a look at what cells are actually in there? I now have 3 different conflicting statements from Bluetti what cells are in the EB150 from Li-ion, to Lithium Cobalt to NMC? All with very different characteristics and safety factors.

I didn’t try mine but I have a hunch it would work if you cut back the waterproof ring on the GZ cables. The 8mm car cable wouldn’t quite fit in.

Clarification: I tried this in the video and I think it would work from a voltage/current perspective but you'd need to trim off the waterproofing ring/gasket on the GZ cable so it would fit in. I just didn't want to modify my cables.

How long does take to charge this from zero and from 50%. I am looking at this and the EC delta. this has better battery, but EC delta has quick charge. I am only using this for charging RC batteries on the field on weekends.

I’m testing the Ecoflow River Pro now. The charger is 220w so it takes about 7 hours to charge from 0. The Delta is on sale now so it’s only a few hundred more than the Bluetti. Lots of pros and cons

@@todd.parker 7 hours is not to bad. I know the Delta only last about 500 cycles then its 60% battery. But I only using it once a week about 6 months out of the year so it should last for several years. The pro is the fast charge 1 1/2 to 80% charged, but the Bluetti has 1500wh vs 1260wh, with real hours of about 1200wh vs 1000wh. Both are about the same price difference of about 150 dollars. Cant make up my mind.

I am also thinking of just getting the delta1300 and just accept that it will probably be broken/lower usage in about 3 years. That fast charging is a big deal for rolling blackouts it seems.
