Last week I purchased an e-bike. It is the Velotric Discover 1. I’m getting used to riding it as it is quite different from my last bike, a touring road bike that took me many miles. Unfortunately, since retiring completely in 2011, I road it only a few times. Lynchburg, VA, the city we live in, has lots of hills and I am not fond of hills. Two years ago we moved into an apartment at Westminster Canterbury Lynchburg, a CCRC (continuous care retirement community), and bike storage didn’t look promising so I gave my bike and all my cycling gear to my former neighbor. However, the desire to get back to cycling struck me and and an e-bike seemed to make sense since it would solve my aversion to hills. I have only ridden it a few times and I love it. I don’t have a hitch and bike rack for my Subaru Outback so I need to be able to find safe neighborhood routes to get the grocery store and the excellent trail system in Lynchburg. That’s what I’ve been working on my my few rides so far.
This video is of a ride I took yesterday (April 30th) to the downtown bike shop where I purchased my bike. I’m using an Inst360 One X2 camera mounted on an unextended Ulanzi selfie stick attached to my handlebar to record parts of the 6-mile ride.
