I loved watching this episode, so much beauty and nice and relaxed the way you share! I'm excited to see how our garden areas come along this summer, it's still a new space for us. I forgot to say I too let some parsnips go to seed, only had space enough to bang them in a pot last year and they only grew tiny, but I left them and now they are happily going to flower, my husband likes them too. I also let some old cabbage and purple sprouting broccoli go to flower, they are gorgeous and the smaller bumbles love them!

Beautiful flowers! I enjoy your tours. Looks like you have many plants to put into the dirt. My greenhouse has been very good at housing my strawberries. Had a peak harvest late April to early May. They have settled on a a steady harvest of a handful or two daily. Since they grow in water, they tend to be very juicy, like biting into a strawberry juice. It takes a little getting used to it’s texture. Many of the plants outside are struggling this year. We have had an extended period of dry windy weather and in the middle of an exceptional drought. My wicking bed on the windy side of the house has stunted plants: tomatoes, peppers, and squash; while the leeward bed is doing better. I have the same plants plus bok choi. All these plants are trailing the ones inside the greenhouse. My roses (actually Evelyn’s roses, the previous homeowners) have been trimmed to naked sticks by the deer on one side. The big blueberry bush has also been trimmed in the middle with green berries remaining only at the top or bottom. Evelyn warned me not to feed the deer, but I haven’t been good at preventing the wildlife from eating. The deer also seem to have eaten all the sotol flowers. I ate one, it had a mild flavor with a hint of sweetness. It didn’t seem to have any detrimental effects. (Ate it the day before some deer stripped all the flowers from all the plants in the immediate area. I suspect a herd of deer). Except for my hillside where I planted my cherry trees, the countryside is brown. Even some of the mountain junipers are showing signs of stress. The pine forests in the higher mountains are on fire. We have had only a few days of calm winds which allowed containment of the fires, but it has been one of the worse fire seasons on record. Fortunately for us, the fires are not nearby. That’s the news from New Mexico. Thanks for sharing your garden! Always a joy to see a healthy garden!

Hi Kat, I’m growing Ricinus too this year, but I’ve put Amaranthus in too. Almost as impressive as the castor oil plant, (depending on the variety) but whole plant edible and the birds love the seeds, which are protein rich like quinoa. Your flowers are looking fantastic!

Roses and foxgloves not out here yet. Rhododendrons and lupins blooming well. Annuals didn't germinate at all this year. A beautiful, fun and enjoyable tour as usual! However, this one gave me a few moments of anxiety and panic as you stuck your hand and nose right into a white spider when you were inhaling the scent of the Munstead Rose! As the tour continued, there were more encounters with Katrinas hand and hiding spiders....Oh my! Did you come away with any bites? Perhaps you are unbothered by the thought of the spiders...but I have a very uneasy relationship with them in my garden!

Spiders aren't dangerous here in the UK. I think we do technically have some that bite, but it's very rare - I've never heard of it happening to anyone.
