@@upscaleavenue How many times do you see men overdoing something like she does? Anything that's overdone is annoying. It just happens that women overdo crying the most.
@upscaleavenue3 жыл бұрын
@@mountainrock7682 And therein lies the problem: that you think she's "overdoing" it, that she's overreacting. She's just being honest. This is an honest, genuine reaction. There is nothing wrong with that. There is something wrong with stoicism, however, because it is unnatural. Humans (save for psychopaths, maybe) aren't supposed to be stoic. We are supposed to have emotions, and we are supposed to express them. But if you insist on phrasing it that way, think about how often men get violent towards women when they are rejected. That is the epitome of being "overemotional."
@Jannyl133 жыл бұрын
@@mountainrock7682 I see men "overdoing" it all the time: Shouting or punching walls when angry. My ex-boyfriend broke his foot after kicking a wall when he lost a sports match. Curiously, however, people don't seem to mind men being overly angry, as if that isn't an emotion. Also, if men can cry after lost football matches (which I absolutely think they can - no problem with that), then it shouldn't be demonised to cry listening to sad songs. They are literally meant to elicit emotions. Crearly Taylor did a good job when her songs resonate so much with so many people.
@mountainrock76823 жыл бұрын
@@Jannyl13 Dude, I swear she cries ALL THE TIME. I've seen her cry on the most random things. She cried because Taylor said "shit" in a song. ☺ I get that you would cry on the outro of Daylight, on All Too Well's bridge, on anything that was supposed to be very much vulnerable.

Same lol. I only got emotional because I imagined how it would hurt to go through sm, and because of the vocals, rhythm, and how much the album reminds me of the life I wanna have (not the lyrics though, I can't really explain it), but I don't know if I will. I'm used to not relating to albums, because I've never been in love and have 0 romantic experience

it's cool when you can relate to healing songs but when they're sad ehh you just don't want to relate to them anymore lmao but you know what? you kinda have a point bc you get such a good feeling when you can enjoy a song you used to cry over. realising that a period of your life doesn't affect you anymore and looking back at the progress you've made are both huge accomplishments and honestly it's so rewarding

You can still enjoy it tho the beauty, the lyrics, and its production. It’s actually more hard for me to listen or even play it when it’s very related to me. The song seven reminds me of my childhood trauma, the song mirrorball reminds me of how I always try to be the best version of myself to anyone and just satisfying ppl even if it means to compromise my authenticity and feelings, and the song this is me trying reminds me of how I am overcoming to adjust with my substance abuse and my whole life as a mess. It’s hard. Listening to the song is painful but it’s a journey for me to healing and comfort.

I know this album showed up with lyrics and some stories but like every songs are familiar with each other. Yeah I know taylor doesn't have to make hits songs in every album like love story, cruel summer, I did something bad. But when the rep and lover came up I loved every songs at first listening with no exceptions. Especially all of the rep album songs were really great. But folklore is kinda boring to me. i just saw this so the storyline Cardigan: Betty's perspective August: the story of the girl James cheats with. Betty: Jame's perspective so to top all of that james cheats but betty knew that he would come back when 'the thrill expires' and that explain the last line in 'cardigan'

I think it was good she changed genre, because since she’s in her 30s she went more matured with Alternative, just how when she was a Teen she was country then young Adult she was pop.

NEVER feel negative about crying to music. it means that we didn't just listen and understand the song but we felt it in a certain way. We related and/or connected to it. EXILE hit me good. That song made me visualize like it was in a movie. Girl, i cried watching you cry to it.

The three songs in question, which Taylor otherwise calls " The teenage love triangle", are; 'Cardigan' 'August' and 'Betty'. All three songs feature very similar plotlines and nuances of detail so I am most adamant that this interpretation is wholly accurate. 1. 'Cardigan'- This song is written in the perspective of 'Betty' who we hear the name of later on in the album. The metaphor of the cardigan itself has multiple meanings. One being that Betty herself feels like an old, worn cardigan "under someone's bed", she is cast aside by her lover (James) and feels neglected of affection. The second being that cardigans are normally associated with comfort and homeliness; her lover realises that his real place is with her, hence the lyric "you put me on and said I was your favourite". Essentially, James isn't good with commitment and breaks Betty's heart by flitting around with other girls, however, realises his true affection for Betty, as she narrates "I knew you'd miss me when the thrill expired... I knew you'd come back to me". 2. 'August'- This song is written in the perspective of 'Inez' who we hear the name of later in 'Betty'. She is the girl who James had an affair during the summer with "would you trust me if I said it was just a summer thing?" (Sourced from 'Betty'). This song takes on a revisitation of her role in the love triangle and how she recognised that her romance with James was just a whim and a summer fling "Will you call when you're back at school?/ I remember thinking I had you". This song coins a very similar line to the one found in 'Betty' when it says "Remember when I pulled up and said 'Get in the car' " so we know they are linked stories. 3. 'Betty'- This song is written in the perspective of 'James' who is the young man causing this entire conundrum. The song sets out as almost an open letter to the recipient 'Betty' hence the title. He talks of how he realised her cold shoulder towards him when she "heard the rumours from Inez". Perhaps alluding to the concept that Inez is bitter that the fling ended and so wants to almost 'punish' James by exposing his infidelity. He is genuinely regretful of his decisions which he believes were created by his immaturity "I'm only seventeen I don't know anything but I know I miss you". He contemplates turning up to her party to apologise and reconcile, which he eventually does "Betty I'm here on your doorstep and I planned it out for weeks now". When they do meet again they share a meaningful kiss. James stands in betty's cardigan, this image symbolizes his acceptance of Betty for all that she is; she is his home. Therefore directly linking to the concept explained above in 'cardigan' You are welcome everyone 😂 x

This album is something else. It's a whole experience that even I, a longtime swiftie that has never cried hearing her songs (don't judge me), am dumbfounded by how much emotion caused by this one. Something about the composition that gets to you. Definitely not for everyone, but ultimately rewarding for those who's willing to embrace it.

This was the best album reaction I’ve watched. You really captured that feeling of goosebumps when you hear a lyric that so perfectly describes what you’re going through. That’s the best thing about Taylor’s writing and this project is the best example of it so far. I loved it so much and can’t wait to listen to it over and over again ❤️ and you should never apologise for genuinely feeling the music and the words so much that it brings you to tears!
