Me too. I was 14 in 1993 and at this time I discovered so many cool bands. There was a different mood in the air back then. I remember most people at my age would listen to pop music, but it was such a great time for people who were looking for deeper, darker music. Now that I think about it, even certain kinds of pop music were cooler than it is now (REM, Blur, Oasis, Radiohead, Björk ...)

Kind of a snapshot of rock history, at a sort of cultural crossroads. This reminds me of what a joke "Headbangers Ball" had become at this juncture, as they were attempting to frame the present about five years behind its time. It had become sort of a game to troll "the Ball", as Maynard does here ("Gambling is for assholes" -Rollins). About this time, Cobain showed up in his "Ballroom Gown", at which point, I think the producers of "the Ball" realized they had been the brunt of the jokes for a couple of years at that point, and they mercifully pulled the plug.

He is being so totally blatant and honest. He's just saying hey we were just trying to play what we felt and what we liked and it kind of took off and it grabbed the following etcetera know we weren't trying to get to your cliches that no offense to the chick, that you're trying to settle listen to but we weren't trying to go into a genre or speak for anything we were just trying to spell what we But he was trying to say was just straight up honesty and that was beautiful he was at sugarcoating anything he just like hey this is what we felt this is what we said, that's all we got to say, and the fact that you just playing in the background is just the icing on the cake, because they are just as amazing and as talented as tool is and was and will be in my opinion will be Will be, in my opinion.

He’s trolling because this “journalist “ was constantly trying to get him to take the bait of putting the band into a particular movement or category which Tool actively avoided from the beginning

I hear rage against the machine in the background playing the song 'freedom' what an ironic thing. my 2 favorite bands,... headbangers ball, yeah right. a headbangers ball would more so include slayer or sepultura, or even pantera. but o.k main stream at the time. but even still those 3 bands that I just named were main stream in 93. I remember headbanger's ball, & alternative nation,... that's when MTV was actually MTV.

He seems to be kind of condescending. Maybe that's inaccurate, but it seems that way. If it's unintentional, and he can't help his social awkwardness, then whatever. But I'm not a fan of people who treat others this way with malice. I always thought his on-stage demeanor was a theatrical thing. I respect the effort to put on a show. But listening to him speak, it makes me wonder if he is act is part of being the stereotypical "tortured" artist. Maybe he thinks of himself as a creative genius? Corny. BTW, I saw them in 1993 in Rhode Island, and that's why I clicked on this video.

Holy baby faces and hair extensions back then.. *meanwhile just being pushed out of womb in the year of 1993. I really missed out on MTV moments.. *Canada didn't get MTV back then not that I know of unless it's PPV. Remembering how indulged I was and becoming a fan throughout MySpace then experiencing racist fans comment on my profile "Tool doesn't want black people listening to their music". *this is me going down a nostalgic memory and still appreciating buying their CDs because if that was EVER really the case then by all means this is why we don't meet our heroes and I've learned to admire from a far. 30 years old now. I get a euphoric high finding clips such as this of my favourite bands who made sounds I could get audibly drunk off of, love it, LOVE IT FOREVER and I don't care what anyone thinks.

The reluctant god. Only artist I can listen to, anytime, any work, anywhere, and have for a little over 30 years...and it doesn't get tired. Tool has found that leading edge where Quality is equally defined as both subjective and objective...and that is something sorely lacking in our world, despite it being what true artists seek. Industrial art isn't directed by this principle.
