Always nice to see how a normally functioning valve works. And, you verified the fact that the PCM is sending the signal. You clearly proved which component is bad, before throwing parts and money at the problem. Ladies, this is professional workflow, no guessing on the way to the parts store!

Excellent tutorial dude. Had a brainfart and forgot what p200x codes were and this video came right up for the variable intake manifold runners. Incase you ever get similar faults on Audi and VW belt drive 2.0t this is also a common failure but instead of solenoids it uses an electric motor and linkage arm. Usually the motor but have also seen (rarely) the rotating valve piece snap at the elbow where the rod attaches to the manifold actuator. Cheers!

If its hard to take off the hoses, use a flat head screwdriver under the hose and push it off, once it moves 1mm, you can pull it off with your hands. To put them back on the new manifold, i found that the hoses were loose (not sure if this is normal, but they were on tight before), so I cut 3-4mm off the end of the hoses (dont cut more as they are short to start with), then I put them on, and you will see that it wont go all the way in, so use abit of muscle, or use pliers to hold the hose and push it in properly.

on my scanner im looking at the intake manifold runner control valve pid and it always reads on. is there a position position sensor in this system that tells the system its on? im figuring that its supposed to read off until about 2500-3000 rpm
@themechanic6117
@themechanic6117 6 жыл бұрын
I'm not sure if it's supposed to stay in the on or off position . When I was filming this I didn't look at the pid while the car is running. After the solenoids the vacuum hose goes down to a vacuum controlled actuator that sits under the throttle body. That actuator has a connector on it and I believe that's where the system reads what position the actuator is in. I pulled a vacuum on my actuator to make sure it can hold vacuum and wasn't busted which it did check out to be ok.

If anyone else is wondering about the SP23 engine, instead of the long hose running from the manifold around the side of the engine and then splitting out to the bracket mounted solenoids as per this video, the 2.3L solenoids are mounted at the front on the manifold itself. They are a different part number than the 2.0L version.

The mech a nic so I did change these solenoids just as you did in the video and had no success, went back to square one where it all started... So long story short I removed the intake manifold to replace some coolant lines, put everything back together and i had NO POWER OR ACCELERATION after 3500rpm. It sucked. After a week of diagnosing I just fixed it. So, the metal rod that goes to the blades inside the intake, was, I guess you could say closed or to a point it won’t spin the way it needs to. When I figured that out I was able to spin it the opposite way, that way the air pump it connects to can pump correctly. Once I put it back together and I felt the pump was free, I just knew it that fixed it. Went for a test drive and the Mazda is back on full power. Thanks for this video it’s great and really help me pin point my issue. Long comment I know but if you got this far check out my channel! The Mazda is there. Will be making more and more videos! If you read this all thank you man I appreciate it. Hope you are staying safe! 😎

I replaced both solenoids, P2009 went away but now Codes p2187 and p2004 are there. What now? Before p2009 was the only code there.

Where the solenoids actually bad ? Or you just replaced them for no reason?. Did you plug everything back in?
@mikebuckets

@@themechanic6117 not sure. I will double check tomorrow. The weather is nasty down here in South Floroda. Maybe I didnt push the plugs or the little hoses all the way in. I may have disturbed something while replacing the IMCR solenoid. Thanks and i will keep you posted.

@@themechanic6117 I put the original one back in, got the same codes, then installed the new one again, only to get the same codes. Do you think the issue is electrical or vacuum related?

That's on the intake manifold. You'll have to check the vacuum pump to make sure it's working first
