A friend was having trouble every time she fills up her gas tank. After every full tank of gas, the car will not start. It will just turn over. She would have to wait a couple of minutes and try again, and when it does start, it will have a rough idle for a couple seconds.
PROBLEM: The purge control valve is stuck open. When filling with gas, the vapors and/or some fuel will go into the intake manifold.
So during start-up, the stuck open purge control valve allows unmetered air/fuel gets sucked into the intake manifold because vacuum it produces. And that is why it is hard for it to start.

That's really nice work man. To me, I just unplug the purge wire and disconnect the vacuum hose between the purge valve and the canister, hook up a vacuum gauge, then go ahead and start engine. The purge valve is normally close, so I shouldn't have any vacuum, otherwise I replace it. Subscribed you already :)

but when I change the brakes the right side used more than the left...and because the caliper boot is worn I change it and the rotor was loose so when I change the everything its OK now until than loud sound ? is it the rotor..?

Thanks very much for this. My 2007 Mazda 3, 2.3L engine was giving a P2187, too lean at idle. It had also been starting hard he first couple times after fielding. Sure enough, the purge solenoid valve was leaking. An inflated rubber balloon also works well for testing the solenoid valve, if you don't want to blow directly into the hose. Did anyone else find that the Dorman 911-700 blue connector only friction fit on the engine nipple? Mine did not lock in place like the original Mazda OEM hose on the engine end. I'm sure it will stay on due to engine vacuum, I'm just worried about future vacuum leaks. So far so good though. I used the same silicon paste the video author used so that may help as far as sealing.

Thank you for that video! I have a Mazda 3, 2008 and it has been giving me a too rich error on oxygen sensor bank one. I have, changed sparkplugs, air filter, MAP sensor, Mas sensor, Oxygen sensor, I have cleaned the throttle body. I have not do this you show in this video but I think this is something to be done when the car has the rror (too lean). Please help. The car still burns too much gas and sparkplugs come out black. I get after a while and not every time, black smoke... Thank you!

Fix It Angel HI Angel. First, congratulations on your 20k users subscribed! remember the car I have is a mazda 3 2008. Automatic. The error I get is P2188 system too rich at idle. Bank 1. I have cleaned the carburator and it seems it helped. Then I used seafoam in the gas tank and vacuum as shown in other videos. Car still shows the same error.... please help.

Hope you fixed it. My check engine light lit up yesterday and ran rough right away. So something failed. I know how sparkplugs and MAP feel when they are bad. This is different because at idle it would fluctuate consistently back and forth from 500 to 1000 like a clock. I took it to auto zone and got P1287 error, similar to yours. Auto Zone has a new feature in the diagnostic report. It says "ASE certified Tecghnicians have seen this issue on your type of vehicle and the likely solution is Replace Evaporative Emissions Purge COntrol Valve." Their price for the part is $96 but its on ebay for $50-90. I think you could just get the valve part for $20. Not sure if u need to replace the hoses.

I changed out my PSV twice under warranty on my '05 GT, third time, after warranty, I just cleared the code and kept going. The code comes up once in a while (months) but i just clear it. I find no issues with starting or running and still get good gas mileage. '05 2.3 @ 220k miles and drives like new.

+Fix It Angel Hey, I think I managed to find it, it is screwed to the throttle body and looks completely different from the one you replaced. The car is not a V6 btw and has a 1.6L engine. I'm starting to think the ones they manufacture for Britain are different from the others and there is not enough info on-line for this type of layout. Anyway, I am getting occasional "spikes" in the RPM while in idle and am hoping swapping out the PSV would fix this.

Oh sorry I didn't know you were from Britain. Try testing it first before replacing. Also look for air leaks, like on cracks on the vacuum lines and intake tubing. Hope you find out the problem. Have a nice day.

Angel i tested mines and still getting hard time to start first thing in the morning. original P code was P2177 and a pending P2187...What i already done so far was clean my MAF sensor, checked for leaks by spraying some kind of gas while on idle...idle didnt change at all after sprapying, checked my purge control valve...anything else you would recommend checking... PS. when motor is hot theres is none hard start at all. Thanks

All I can think of is check your PCV valve and coolant temperature sensor. Also check your coolant in the radiator if it is full.

Hello Angel, i have p0455 and p0128 in my mazda 3 2004. I've the machine and i got these codes. Shall i leave these codes and drive my car with CEL on or is there an economic way to get the problem fixed. Like, P0128 says "Coolant Thermostat" but my temperature guage seems to be normal and at 50% after 5 -10 mins of driving and stays there, so i don't know if the coolant thermostat is the problem or the coolant sensor or any other thing. I talked to the dealer/stealer and they are asking much to just diagnose the codes and associated problems. P0455, on the other hand says Evaporative System Leak - Large leak detected. So, please give me some idea how to deal with these codes. Leave it or a better way to fix it. Thankyou,

I found that the valve gets sticky, add a little graphite powder so the vacuum will suck it in - I did this and it worked

The issue is that the valve is staying open, so if it wasn’t there you would have the same problem. And the check engine light will definitely still be on

How the hell did you get the hose off of the engine input. I removed the orange retaining clip and for some god forsaken reason there was a secondary, blue clip that prevented it from being removed.

Its easy to test. Unplug one side and take off the wire.... if you feel vacuum its bad.
